What Makes a Blog Great?

What makes a blog great? Like anything in life, it’s up for interpretation and personal preference, right? I’m looking for feedback and input here. This isn’t necessarily a critique for this blog, although if you have something to say about it, I’ll certainly listen. What I’m looking for is, what compels you to log on to a specific blog on a daily or weekly basis? What keeps you coming back for more? Is it witty writing, interesting pictures, or specific topics that speak to you? I ask because I’m compiling a list of great blogs. I read a lot of blogs and quite frankly, it can be overwhelming. There’s so much information, so many newsworthy things happening, so much stuff to buy (or long after), so much cool stuff! How can one person possibly take it all in? I have an enquiring mind and I want to know! So, please share. Feel free to mention some of your favorite blogs and tell us why you like them. Your participation is very much appreciated.
Happy Blog Reading,
Payton

Hi Payton,
I was doing a Blog search on; favorite blog reading and I came across your article. The author makes a blog great, that’s what it’s all about for me. You’re right it’s about interpretation and personal preference. It’s so hard to get people to take the time to comment on something that you’re looking for feed back on. What compels me to read a blog is the writing, topic and does it inspire me to do some writing of my own. Your article is filled with questions and I think that’s important to get reader’s to participate with you in your writing.
One of my favorite’s; Write Stuff at http://www.take2max.com/writing/ I like the site because I have a problem coming up with things to write about everyday and this site helps me to do that. They have different writers as guest too, and they each have their own blog so if you find a writer you like you can visit their blog. I could keep going with all my favorites but really it’s like you said, a personal preference and I don’t want to bore you with my views.
I have this thing about posting the comments that I leave on other people’s blog on my blog, I hope you don’t mind that I post this; I hope that you get a lot of feed back to your article. I liked it very much, as it has given me something to post in my blog today. Great questions Thank you!
Hi Jeff,
) You make some great points.

Thanks for your comment! I’m glad you found our blog.
I’ve never been to Write Stuff, so thanks for sharing. Really, I wouldn’t be bored hearing about other blogs you like…that’s why I’m asking!
I’m happy you posted your comment to your blog. Thanks for letting me know. I’ll go comment there as well.

Hi Payton,
I’ve been wondering the same thing myself. It’s too bad blogs are a bit one-directional. I’m always wondering how my readers are responding to my posts. It’s so wonderful when readers actually post comments. So far I have seen my readers are a bit shy about that.
One thing I have realized that will make a blog more sticky is the amount of the character of the blogger than comes through. What’s funny is that when I started blogging I actually strove towards being more distant and editorialized like a fashion magazine. I’m realizing this doesn’t feel right. I’m going to focus on letting more of my personality come through now. I’ll let you know how that goes.
I’ve just recently started trying to learn about The Find. I’m excited about the technology and your company. Keep me posted on any developments!
Ciao~

Hi Jenni,
Thanks for your comment! Sorry it took me so long to approve it…I didn’t get an email notification. Oops!
Anyway, you’re so right about the one way street. Despite light commentary, I trust that there are eyes out there on the blog because the stats tell me so. Otherwise, many of us would be writing in the abyss. Gotta love reporting!
You make a good point about personality. I find that mine comes out more depending on what I’m writing about. I guess that makes sense though. I would love to hear how it works for you. Please keep me posted.
Glad you found us!
