Paulowina Wood Table Top Terrariums

modern-terrarium

Miniature gardens open up a child’s world of imagination. My daughter is intrigued with fairies and loves the terrariums at her school. I was searching for some modern and cleverly designed vessels (other than a mayonnaise jar) to create our own terrarium at home. I found these table top terrariums at Anthropologie. They are made of Paulowina wood and the little wooden ball serves as a topper and the entire glass case can be removed for planting. Paulowina wood is very durable, warp resistant and it is used to make Japanese “Geta” sandals as well as surfboards. It is customary in Japan to plant one of these trees when a new baby is born or to celebrate a wedding.
