River Veda Skincare Review
River Veda is a new organic beauty line from New Zealand which includes skin and body care that I really love. It’s founder, Megan Douglas grew up with a passion for herbs and natural skin care was instilled as a child by a long family lineage of herbalists and healers.

There are two products which are great basics

to begin with, the River Veda Rejuvenate Heavenly Words Organic Lip BalmRiver Veda Skincare Review. It has a consistency which starts out a bit thinner and oiler than your average lip balm, but I found it absorbed into my lips and left a beautiful sheen which protecting my lips during the cold weather. It worked under lip color and I especially loved applying it before night time for an overnight treatment. In the morning my lips were always soft and smooth. It has a very pleasant flavor as well, from it’s mix of natural vanilla, calendula oil, rosehip oil and shea nut oil.

The second product is the River Veda Everyday Evening Primrose Organic Moisturizer certified organic as well as vegan. This felt heavenly on my face. It’s lightweight and creamy and has an amazing almost marshmallow scent. It absorbed quickly and left my skin feeling very soft with no greasy or heavy feel. It did not clog pores or irritate my skin. It is perfect for normal, combination and dry skin. This product does not contain SPF however.

The packaging is simple, elegant and calming – perfectly suiting the line. They also have men’s skincare options.

If you’re in the market for new skincare and/or want to try organic products that are really worth the price, I highly reccomend this line! – RLB

The Ultimate Sleek Ponytail & Look-at-Me Lips at Marc by Marc Jacobs’ Fall 2012 Runway

  • posted February 28th, 2012
  • Beauty

Marc by Marc Jacobs’ Fall 2012 runway show boasted an array of military-inspired styles as well as buttoned-up, conservative dresses – all livened up with soft and flirty details like lamé, bouclé, and moody florals. Hair and makeup artist Dick Page took a similar contrast-heavy direction when it came to styling the models who brought the collection’s tough-girl-chic pieces to life, opting to make a statement with severe, sleek hair, a fresh complexion, and an intense red pout. While a straight-from-the-runway literal take on this look may be a bit too extreme for every day, you can take inspiration from the show’s strict-yet-soft styling. While Page special-ordered a highly-pigmented lipstick wax just for the show, you can get a similar ultra-concentrated effect with Bite High Pigment Lipstick Pencil, available at Sephora. For the perfect ponytail, give your locks a deep part and slick back using HerCut Ponytail Styling Lotion, which will tame all fly-aways and give your pony that sleek, shiny effect. The rest is easy – keep your lids and complexion mostly bare (aside from foundation), but add a bit of matte luminizer like NARS Highlighting Blush in Miss Liberty for that subtle light-reflective glow! Photo Credit: Style.com

Ice Jewelry has long been celebrated as a hassle-free online source of beautiful, on-trend accessories (since 1999, in fact!), but this year they’re taking their budget-friendly brand to one of fashion’s most important televised nights – the Oscars! Yes, one of Ice’s best-selling beaded cuff bracelets from their SNO Sweden Collection has earned a coveted spot in the Academy Awards swag bags, giving the stylish stars a chance to rock their own beaded cuff (shown bottom left!), and finally see what all we savvy shoppers have been raving about for over a decade! But Ice’s impressive collection of cuff bracelets doesn’t end there – if SNO Sweden’s glistening mother of pearl beads and wooden clasp doesn’t suit your fancy, check out a similar beaded style from Kanchan Couture – the blue and black agate beads are eye-catching without being flashy. But if standing out is more your style, be sure to take a look at their Tattooed Cuff collection, featuring a series of colorful, patterned stainless steel cuffs like this funky urban-themed bracelet. And if metallics are what you crave, this woven silver Thai Weave bracelet by Lois Hill is simple and elegant but still statement-making! Check out the rest of their gorgeous (and affordable!) offerings at Ice’s official site.

Neon Bags Will Brighten Up Your Spring

We all have our favorite black bag that goes with everything but with Spring in the fashion forefront, it is time for a change! The new bag trend is bright, neon bags that add bold pops of color to any ensemble.

The Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC Snake Bag in Aqua available for $195 is a perfect bag to fit in with this new trend. Its bright blue aqua, the color of the ocean in Miami, color creates a electric slide vibrancy that can jazz up any boring outfit. The snakeskin texture and the silver chain-link strap add texture and decorative elements to the bold bag.

Another bag we like that falls under this fashion category is the Marc by Marc Jacobs Turnlock Python Shine Messenger Bag in Fluoro Lime available for $498. This bag is almost highlighter neon yellow and really shines against a plain outfit or a black dress. Its messenger style allows it to be more practical in that it will be able to hold all of your items. The optional long strap also makes for great versatility.

The BE & D Agren Satchel in Lava available for $607.60 is a great bright tangerine color with a soft natural brown trim. This contrast along with the gold hardware detail and the snake pattern corner trim make the orange color pop even more.

This Foley + Corinna Lady City Tote available for $345 is one of our favorite neon-inspired bags this season. The turquoise demeanor stands out beautifully on the soft leather. The gold detailing and tassel zippers make for a gorgeous bag that you can actually fit all your stuff in or take on a weekend trip.

Lastly, for a night out on the town, we love this bright red House of Harlow 1960 Val Clutch available for $195. This vintage-inspired fiery red clutch is the perfect accessory for a night out due to its leopard-head clasp, gold adornment, and snakeskin texture. Although small, this clutch will be eye-catching against any little black dress! Whether you want a satchel, a tote, a messenger bag, or even a clutch, there is definitely a bold vivacious bright bag out there for you that will be sure to make you glow!

Your Best Friend Photo Finish Pressed Powders

Your Best Friend (“YBF”) is founded by Stacey Schieffelin, a former Ford Model who re-emerged as a QVC entrepreneur and, per Ladies’ Home Journal, one of America’s “Power Women.” It seems to be a no-brainer for a model 20-years over to launch a cosmetics company; perhaps less obvious is the personalized approach she brings despite relying primarily on television sales for her success.

I’ll never forget watching a girl sitting on the opposite side of the Hebrew school classroom carefully apply layer upon layer of eye shadow in diligent succession, much to the chagrin of our over-worked Sunday school teacher. That was just my first encounter in watching a peer diminish the size of her eyebrow-to-eyeball facial real estate. In years to come I turned to many a trendy peer for guidance on finding the best face glitter (urban outfitters, duh!), blue mascara (um, the same), and lip gloss (bonne belle, no?). Ms. Schiefflin seems to have experienced the same and strives to achieve that status of “best,” in titling her makeup line accordingly.
Though Photo Finish ($28.90) is marketed as a “face shape shifting trio,” meant to “accentuate, camouflage and blend,” it really is just a series of pressed powders of incrementally darker shading. Perhaps an expert might be knowledgeable in proper “shape-shifting” shading, but unfortunately I am not an experienced facial shape-shifter, and the results of my attempted application were quite shoddy (or actually, spotty).

That said, YBF emphasizes that its products, including Photo Finish Powders, are good for you (including “some of the most advanced ingredients and technology available,” and are paraben and cruelty-free). YBF deserves much acclaim for contributing to community and international organizations, including the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, and the Special Olympics, among many other worthy causes. Expanding on the do-gooder-ness is the YBF “sparkle your spirit” campaign, for “girlfriends [to] connect, build friendships, and support one another!” There’s no doubting the good intentions of this brand.
In sum, for those seeking some virtual BFFs (particularly ones with more model experience and less back-of-the-hebrew-school-classroom experience), and also maybe some makeup, YBF is the brand for you.

Marni at H&M

Last week the stars came out to view the launch of the Marni at H&M collection. Drew Barrymore, Winona Ryder, Milla Jovovich and many were there to celebrate the launch. Hosted by Marni’s Founder and Creative Director, Consuelo Castiglioni, the Director of the Marni at H&M campaign, Sofia Coppola, and Margareta van den Bosch, H&M´s Creative Advisor. Guests who donned clothes from the collection included Drew, Winona and Milla, Jessica Chastain, Freida Pinto and Andrea Riseborough.

The highly anticipated collection will be available from March 8 in around 260 stores worldwide, as well as online.

This video captures guests reactions about the sophisticated, eclectic collection. In true signature Marni style, bright prints are a theme in the collection – just in time for Spring. While keeping a feminine aesthetic, menswear-inspired pieces do make their way into the collection. A full-range of shoes, bags, accessories and even menswear will be available.

Marni for H&M

“It has been an inspiring night, surrounded by a perfect setting and a great crowd. LA encapsulated the dream! It is not long before Marni at H&M is in the stores, and I am happy to share these magic moments with everybody.” - Consuelo Castiglioni, Founder and Creative Director, Marni

“It’s nice to see again the people I worked with on the project for Marni and H&M. With the film I just tried to do something that fitted with the mood of the collection, the fantasy and the fun of fashion.” - Sofia
Coppola

I’ve always been a huge fan of Sofia Coppola, ever since her directorial debut of The Virgin Suicides. I think I had that soundtrack on repeat for the entire year of 1999. I was excited to learn that she directed the Marni at H&M campaign.

Beauty Find – Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour Full Coverage Foundation

Tarte Amazonian clay 12-hour full coverage foundation has just about everything I need. It’s long lasting but non drying, it covers up imperfections, yet still looks light and natural on the skin, and it keeps the more oily
part of my face matte throughout the day.

I used the darkest shade, Deep, with very good results. The color match has just the right amount of yellow/orange and it didn’t turn any other color during the day. Thetexture is slightly creamy and thick out of the tube, and it’s both easily buildable and also has the ability to be “thinned out” with a little water or moisturizer if you want a very natural look. I loved applying it my fingers when I was in a rush in the morning, but a foundation brush gave me the best overall results.

The formula was never drying, yet gave me a semi matte appearance throughout a majority of the day (yes, I would say about 12 hours but I was not in humid, super hot or rainy conditions). For a day when I was going to be taking pictures, I would simply add a little loose powder on my T zone, and I was set for the day. This is another winner from the tarte family of Amazonian Clay products.

The foundation also comes in 3 lighter shades: Fair, Tan, Tan-Deep – RLBFrom our friends at Palacinka Beauty Blog
