UNITE Haircare

UNITE 7 Seconds Dry Shampoo and Conditioner’s mission is to provide freshness and health to hair without stepping in the shower! By spraying along the roots, these products are intended to not only clean your hair but detangle and cleanse. After using both the Shampoo and Conditioner, my hair smelled as if I just stepped out of the shower. My long waves looked ravishing after spraying in UNITE haircare. However a while after, including the morning after, my hair appeared to be oily. When trying to style my hair, the top of my head felt rather dirty as if I really did skip a shower. The intent of the haircare is to skip showers and still feel like your hair is clean as if you took one. However that did not happen. The Detangle Conditioner also didn’t work properly. Only after I brushed my hair thoroughly did it seem untangled.

However the product was very refreshing. Unlike most sprays, it felt as if a mist was hitting my hair rather than a bunch of chemicals. The 7Seconds Dry Shampoo aided in preserving my color and refreshing my hair without the use of water. The 7Seconds Conditioner Leave in Detangler locked in color as well. It is a UV, and Thermal protector as well as a favorite of Eva Longoria!

DuWop Private Lipstick Collection Provides Your Perfect Personal Shade!

Unless you’re one of those ridiculously lucky gals who can pull off basically any shade of lipstick flawlessly, you’ve likely experienced what a pain it can be to find your perfect lip color. Sure, you see the various trend reports with every passing season that claim to help you find the perfect red, pink, coral, or purple lipstick to suit your specific skin tone and hair color, but despite the helpful hints, you inevitably end up holing up at Sephora for a good two hours before finally leaving with a hand full of lipstick test marks and a shade you’re hardly enthusiastic about. Well, you can officially thank the geniuses at DuWop for making a bold attempt at shortening your search for the perfect lip color! Best known for their fan-favorite Lip Venoms, which has helped the non-Angelina Jolies of the world get their own attempt at bee-stung lips, DuWop is making waves again with their Private Lipstick Collection. This innovative new series of shades – ranging from perky pink to deep burgundy – incorporates three different kinds of natural pigments (annatto, hibiscus, and henna) to create a color-changing formula that morphs into your most suitable, flattering version of the shade within five minutes after applying to your lips. I’ve yet to test these lipsticks out myself, but any shade that claims to be smart enough to find my perfect shade for me and spare me the search is worth a try in my book!

NARS Makeup Removing Water

If you’re in searching for an oil-free makeup alternative, I’m currently loving NARS Makeup Removing Water. Used backstage at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, this makeup remover doesn’t contain soap or fragrance. What it does have is chamomile, cucumber and hyaluronic acid. It left no greasy residue behind (a definite plus) and worked well on my waterproof mascara. It did require a small bit of pressure to remove it…but definitely not to the same degree of tugging and scrubbing like with other brands I’ve tried before. (more…)

Here’s this week’s pick: Beauty Find – Hourglass Nº 28 Primer Serum

Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum Product Review
Hourglass Nº 28 Primer Serum

Most of you wouldn’t associate oil with a primer, but the genius new product Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum manages to combine a facial oil with a serum that is an amazing primer and skincare product in one.

The name is derived from the 28 essential and plant oils, along with 4 vitamins contained in the formula.

I have combination skin (more oily in the t zone), and just one pump of the serum completely balanced out the more oily and dry parts of my face.  The texture is quite unique – it feels like a thick oil when it’s first pumped into your hand, but once it’s applied it feels like absolute heaven.
The serum sank into my skin immediately and made it feel like silk. My skin tone was soft, supple and it gave me a virtually pore-less look with a beautiful glow.
It was the perfect layer before I added a BB Balm,  foundation or tinted moisturizer and helped my makeup look fresh and stay in place all day into the night.  It’s very concentrated so only one pump is needed, making this a good beauty investment.  I also loved using it at night after cleansing and using my other skincare treatments – that’s how amazing it felt.
I also have to mention the fragrance of this product .  It is simply beautiful – a mix of sweet, delicate florals, gentle citrus and grassy notes that is very noticeable upon application, but faded away quickly, never leaving me overwhelmed.
This is going to be another new product I’ve discovered in 2012 that will become a staple in my skincare and makeup routine! -RLB

Beauty Innovation – Sonia Kashuk Complexion Perfector

This is a brilliant idea from one of my favorite budget beauty lines, Sonia Kashuk!

For those of you who alternate between a foundation brush and a makeup sponge, the Sonia Kashuk Complexion Perfector is the perfect tool. I used the brush for my foundation and then simply turned it around and used the sponge to blend a bit more on the outer edges and around the nose.

The brush has great smooth bristles (synthetic) that really work to blend foundation streak free, and the sponge is firm but is still pliable and soft enough to apply makeup to smaller and larger areas of the face, as well as buff and blend makeup.

It’s also great to use with cream blushes. Saves space and saves time too, so it’s a big winner for me. – RLB

Lavanila Laboratories – Vanilla Passion Fruit

Valentine’s day may be behind us, but with the onslaught of warm weather and generally heightened “out-and-about”-ness encompassing NYC, a little spritz of aphrodisiac might just be the extra “umph” reminding cupid to keep on shooting.

Lavanila’s Vanilla Passion Fruit incorporates scents of Madagascar vanilla, passion fruit, guava, peach, and sandalwood, uniquely combined for an allegedly seductive effect. These vanilla tones can be somewhat overwhelming, so buyers beware that this product is not for the heavy-handed (or whatever the perfume-spraying equivalent would be for a lead foot). That said, as with edible forms of vanilla, this perfume may too be enjoyed in moderation. As for the remaining fruit basket of ingredients, I can’t say their presence is immediately detectible. If you’re looking for something fruity, this is not for you. Are you looking for a somewhat sophisticated slightly-too-sweet vanilla? Look no further. Dish out $58 for the perfume, or smaller sums for like-scented products, such as the roller ball ($19), showe and shave ($14), and body butter ($20), all of which can be found at Lavanila.com or sephora.com.

Furthermore, Lavanila’s ingredients are touted as “healthy,” offering hydrating and soothing qualities for the skin. This factor is quite difficult to measure, feel, or test, so I’ll trust the lab on these claims. Why not? After all, it’s not so often that New Yorkers are offered the opportunity to achieve health through mere perfume-application, or, offer some direction for cupid’s arrow. Might as well offer it olifactorily.

Beauty Find – Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream

Many of you have probably been hearing the term “BB creams” more and more lately.

BB cream stands for “Beauty Balm” and more and more brands are making them. They are a hybrid of a tinted moisturizer/primer product which also tackles: oily skin, acne, evening skin tone and sun protection all in one.

I’ve found that one of the major standouts in this category is Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream SPF 35 . The first reason is color range – right now most brands only have roughly 2 shades of their BB creams – very light and medium tones. However, Smashbox debuted this product with 5 shades, all the way to Dark, which was a perfect match for me.

The second great feature is the actual formula – this BB cream is a bit thicker than some of the others I’ve tried. It’s closer to a lightweight creamy foundation, but still very light on the skin.
I loved how easily it was to apply (both fingers and foundation brush were great), and the lasting power was fantastic – it really didn’t budge, smudge or come off in any way. It didn’t clog my pores or dry out my drier parts of my face either, which was nice.

The formula is quite concentrated, so only about a dimes worth is needed for coverage. Again, it’s important to note this is not a foundation – so it works best for those of you with good-to-great skin tones without too much discoloration, etc. However, this is a product which could be used in conjunction with a foundation, it needed for additional coverage, since it’s also a primer/sunscreen.

The finish was very nice – it’s slightly dewy but still provided a great amount of oil control for my t-zone (I usually only had to do a light blot once during the entire day to freshen up).

I looked fresh, natural yet still very put together – effortlessly! This is a must have for your makeup kit. – RLB
