Welcome to the sixth installment of TheFind’s 12 Days of Christmas Q&A series with industry leaders of all trades. StyleBistro’s Deputy Editor, Cristina Velocci shares with us her favorite holiday style finds and top gift ideas

1

What are some of your favorite holiday fashion and beauty trends/products this season?

I’ve always loved that the holidays are the perfect excuse to add a little glitz to your everyday attire, and I’ve noticed that fashion brands are offering the sparkle in subtle and unexpected ways this season. My favorite example of this is through embellished cold-weather accessories, such as these Markus Lupfer crystal gloves and this Halogen jeweled beanie. On the beauty front, it’s much the same—glitter was all over the Fall 2014 runways, and executed in a sophisticated manner.

What items are on your holiday wish list? What is your must-have item?

Honestly, a new computer! I’m long overdue for an upgrade and have my eye on a MacBook Pro, but I also wouldn’t mind receiving a LyveHome along with it—this small tower consolidates and stores all of your digital photos with minimal effort, so they don’t take up space on your laptop. I’m also in the market for some quality pajama sets that will make me feel like a real adult.

What are your readers interested in and shopping for this holiday season?

The StyleBistro girl is style-savvy but also cost-conscious, so she’s likely looking for a versatile party dress that can carry her through her holiday soirees this season, plus a few key accessories that will help her switch up her look. We’re big believers that great style is not about the clothes, but how you put them together.

What is your holiday shopping routine and what holiday shopping tips do you have for readers to find the best picks?

I actually start the process slowly in July, since that’s when holiday press previews happen and they get me in the mindset. In addition to setting aside gifts I see and know will be perfect for recipients on my list, I also save other potential ideas to a Pinterest board so I never feel like I’m frantically grasping at straws for ideas. Planning ahead is key.

What is one item in your fashion/beauty collection you couldn’t live without this holiday season?

Urban Decay’s Primer Potion. Whether I do a smoky eye or glitter-lined look, this eye shadow primer will ensure whatever I create will last all day long, which is key since I don’t have time to go home and refresh before parties after work.

Where do you get your inspiration?

Anywhere and everywhere. I stay pretty plugged in with social media and my Feedly reader, but I often feel most inspired after I disconnect and travel somewhere.

How to Wear Fall Jewelry

A common misconception for fall weather is that you can’t flaunt your jewelry behind scarves and sweaters. Don’t let the cold weather hide your fashionable accessories! Here are 3 tips on how to wear bold jewelry during fall season.

–       Going Out: Let’s be honest, a night out on the town with the girls means you want to showcase your best outfit! Bars and clubs tend to get warm with so many people packed in the tight spaces, so you won’t want to wear anything too cozy. A bold and chunky metal necklace is perfect for an edgy and fun look. It won’t be hidden behind a scarf or sweater and will definitely make you stand out from the crowd.

–       In the Office: Traveling to work requires a nice warm coat for walking outdoors, but that doesn’t mean you have to look boring once it’s taken off in the office space. For a more reserved look, put on an elegant pearl and/or crystal ribbon necklace. This will add a classy touch to your work suit and is perfect for professional settings.

–       Men’s Jewelry: Jewelry is not made for only women. GQ shares some favorite men’s jewelry including heavy metal wrist-wear like ID bracelets and bold watches. ID bracelets add style to a night outfit and statement watches compliment a business suit very well. Don’t be shy guys! Go find a trendy piece for your wardrobe.

–       Creating bloody nails is much easier than it looks. Apply a base coat of any color you would like. Using neutral colors is a great choice because they look more natural and have a realistic affect. Then take a deep blood-like red color and wipe the brush on the neck of the bottle to remove the majority of the polish. Brush what’s left of the red in varying strokes on top of your base coat. Add a clear top coat to finish it off.

–       SF Gate has over 20 different nail art ideas for Halloween. From Frankenstein, to skeletons, to pumpkins and more—there is definitely a design that is suitable for any costume. Make sure to reference TheFind to locate the best last-minute deals on polishes.

“We found a lot of stores felt a need or a product to help their bearded customers. Before we started servicing that need, there wasn’t anything for them to offer men who have facial hair. We wanted to serve the needs of the bearded.”

-Lindsey Reinders
Co-Founder of Beardbrand

– Beard Oil: According to Business Insider, men can benefit from using beard oil because it calms and softens up facial hair, while adding some shine. This is great because facial hair grows in all different textures and can get a bit wild. Beardbrand has a wide selection of beard oil blends to pick from. They use natural ingredients like argan oil, jojoba oil, grape seed oil and almond oil that help create a lightweight base that conditions beards without causing any heavy greasiness. Shop for Beardbrand products on TheFind!

– Bayolea Collection: Penhaligon, the official court barber and perfumer to Queen Victoria, released its first ever men’s grooming line this fall—Bayolea. Its moustache wax, shave oil and aftershave are excellent products for maintaining healthy and attractive facial hair. Bayolea products blend together citrusy, spicy and earthy ingredients like lemongrass, black pepper and sandalwood and create a masculine scents that aren’t too overpowering.

– Comb: Business Insider suggests that every bearded man invest in a good comb or boar’s hairbrush. These items will help keep your beard looking nice and clean. This is especially appropriate for bearded men in the corporate workforce. Eric Bandholz, co-founder of Beardbrand, describes the “corporate beard” to Forbes as “anywhere between a two-week and two-month beard that’s well groomed and the neckline and cheekline is straight.” In addition to a comb or hairbrush, scissors or beard trimmers will help men achieve this look.

Work-Appropriate Halloween Costumes

Many people like to go all-out when it comes to Halloween costumes. From crazy hair and makeup, to oversized props and equipment, accessorizing can sometimes be too much for certain environments. It’s totally ok to be festive, but different surroundings often require you to tone it down a little. Here are some tips to consider for work-appropriate Halloween costumes that will allow you to have fun while still maintaining productivity in the office.

–       Comfort: A normal workday is usually 8 hours, which means you will have to remain in costume for the extended period of time. Choose a costume that is comfortable and will not inhibit your ability to do complete your tasks. If you will be working outdoors or with heavy machinery, consider avoiding costumes that require props or other pieces that will get in the way of your tools/equipment. For example, substitute masks that may block your peripheral vision with makeup instead.

–       Keep it Professional: For women, Halloween costumes are often designed to be sexy and revealing. But the workplace is NOT the place to show off some skin. Keep it appropriate and don’t offend your fellow co-workers with costumes that will make them uncomfortable. Instead of purchasing risqué outfits, try finding individual pieces like skirts, pants and shirts in similar colors that could substitute for costumes.

–       Mystique in X-Men: You can achieve the look of Jennifer Lawrence and Rebecca Romijn as Mystique in X-Men without having to use the airbrush kit that is demonstrated in the video on Bustle. How to Shop TheFind for Eco-Friendly Beauty Products

Shopping for eco-friendly beauty products can be tricky sometimes. There are so many different types of beauty products on the market which makes it difficult to find what you are looking for. Here are some tips on how to navigate TheFind for purchasing your beauty products.

thefind_Web Logo Assets_color_RGB_logo_webpagecomp

TheFind mobile app is a very useful tool when shopping for products, especially on the go. You can download it from the app store onto your smart phone and then create an account. Since there is such a wide variety of eco-friendly products, it helps to narrow down your search by thinking of what type of beauty product you are searching for. For example, when typing “eco-friendly beauty products” into the search bar at the top of the screen, the page loads and offers you to choose from: Walls, Bath Brushes, Loofahs and Mitts, Air Freshener Sprays, Liquid Hand Soap and Computers. Searching for the term “eco-friendly beauty products” clearly allows too broad of a spectrum to look through. Therefore, it helps to think about more specific types of products.

We will use the image below as our shopping example for makeup products. Within makeup there are also numerous categories of items: eye shadow, foundation, brushes, lipstick, etc. It is important to identify which category you are interested in. At the top of the screen, type in “eco-friendly makeup brushes” to better specify your item. By doing so, you will be able to eliminate other categories and find only makeup brushes.

 IMG_5396

Whether it be makeup, hair care or skin care, identifying what categories you can narrow down in each type of product can help you find what you are looking for much quicker. Specifying categories like shampoo, eye shadow, face wash or moisturizer are some tips to help you pinpoint good search terms to type into the search bar. As usual, using TheFind location feature will allow you to shop at nearby stores and in an eco-friendly manner.

How to Wear Maxis in the Fall

Maxi dresses are a common spring and summer fashion trend, but paired with the right accessories, they can also be a huge statement in the fall. Take a look at these tips on different ways to wear maxi dresses and skirts as the weather changes.

–       Cardigan/Sweater: One of All Women Stalk’s 7 suggested ways to wear a maxi dress is to wear a cardigan or sweater. Tucking a sweater into a high wasted maxi skirt will accentuate your waist while also making you look taller. Putting a lightweight cardigan over a maxi dress will cover your shoulders nicely for the cooler fall weather and also keep your wardrobe appropriate for more professional settings.

–       Scarf: Scarves are always appropriate for fall weather. They transform a summer maxi dress into a chic fall outfit. Printed scarves can liven and dress up a solid color maxi dress, making you stand out from the crowd.

–       Belt: Maxi dresses don’t always fit perfectly. For dresses that are too loose and baggy, accessorizing with a belt will shape the dress around your figure. This also helps avoid looking like you are wearing a frumpy bag. Along with belts, tying a simple knot at the bottom of a dress is a stylish way to add character to your outfit, while secretly hemming the length to fit shorter girls. These are two trendy ways make oversized maxi dress look more flattering.
