Portable Storage Device: FreeAgent Go

freeagent-drive
Seagate’s FreeAgent Go is a handy portable external storage device that allows you to take your files with you anywhere you go. As a mom, I like that I can take thousands of photos of my children, store them on this device for safe keeping and take them over to Grandpa’s so he can always have updated pictures of his grandchildren.  FreeAgent Go’s ease of use is also something that I appreciate as a mom.  I don’t have time to figure out complicated computer gadgets and the FreeAgent Go is simple to use.

Depending on your storage needs, FreeAgent Go is available in different models- 250 GB, 320 GB and 500 GB at various price points.  An optional docking station is also available.

iHome-LED-Color-Changing-Sp

I consider myself pretty technologically advanced. I have a cute little MacBook Pro sitting on my desk at home, and our flat screen Sony Bravia is linked to my boyfriend’s computer so that we can watch movies on the TV through his laptop.

I have an iTouch and a Blitz (maybe that last one doesn’t technically make me savvy, but cuteness must be factored in somewhere to this equation). And yet, with all my bells and whistles, I still felt something was missing.

Then, I found her. The iHome LED color-changing speaker system was just the friend I was looking for. I can rotate through multiple colors if I’m feeling psychedelic, or settle her on white and listen to Death Cab for Cutie if I’m feeling mellow. Another awesome feature? The iHome charges your iPod while you listen, so instead of getting dead batteries when you’re reading to transfer from home to travel, you’re all souped up and ready to go.

Stick Blik

Blik has a revamped website, and I’m transfixed by some of their new decal offerings.  The designs from art collective Upper Playground are particularly good at balancing edgy and sweet:  Cat Moonlight reads so Aristocats art nouveau, and Costumes is just grown-up fun.  But for real bang on your wall, go for the eerie, exploding Butterfly Gun.

jiggerland-cube-shaker

Last year around this time of year I began to consider what I would buy for my brother-in-law for Christmas. He was one of those people whom I had known for years, and he was a member of our family, but I didn’t know him well enough to get a really personal gift, and so it required some extra consideration.
Things I did know about said brother-in-law included: he was in law school, he was nearing 30, he liked to drink.

Adding all of these factors together (and after stumbling across a fabulous gift guide in my Wired magazine), I landed on the awesome, and all-empowering, cube jigger. This nifty little, well, jigger, was designed by Josh Owen to compress the six most common liquid measures used to mix alcoholic drinks into the smallest possible dispenser.

I think I did good. The cute little cube jigger now sits prominently on his and my sister’s brand new bar (which is a whole other blog in and of itself).

Barnes & Noble Nook eBook Reader

nook_angle-view
Nook. A simple word that you’ll be hearing a lot of in the the upcoming Holiday season. Just announced, the Barnes & Noble Nook is the bookstore’s entry into the burgeoning eBook reader market. As a direct competitor to the Amazon Kindle and Sony Readers, the Nook offers many of the features you’d expect from an eBook reader and a little bit more.

Like other eBook readers, the Nook is eco-friendly. It can hold the equivalent of 1,500 physical paper based books, magazines, and newspapers. It features an E Ink display for comfortable reading and has both 3G and Wi-Fi access via the AT&T network. Two features that makes the Nook stand out are the full color touchscreen on the bottom of the screen and the ability to lend eBooks to a friend for up to 14 days at a time. Your friend can read the book via reader, cell phone, or computer. These unique features plus the $259 price points sounds like the Nook will be a frequent item on Santa’s wishlists.

Witches’ Kitchen Casserole Cauldron

tord-boontje-cauldron

Double, double, toil and trouble! Concoct the perfect witches’ brew (or a totally harmless casserole that’s just frighteningly festive) this Halloween season with the Witches’ Kitchen Casserole Bowl from Unica. The black ceramic bowl can also be used as a regular serving bowl (snacks, candy, spooky side dishes — you name it!) and is part of a sustainable line of limited-edition goods produced from eco-friendly materials. Sure, it’s a little costly, but it’s not so garishly Halloween-ish that you’d be forced to hide it in the cupboard until next year. It’s universally sleek and stylish for kitchenware, but with the right seasonal decor and the perfect pointed hat, it’s potion-ready!

Price: $360

Who Found It: xgalexy was the first to add the Witches’ Kitchen Casserole Bowl to the Hive.

Felted Pot Holders from Fat Tomato Designs

fat-tomato-designs
Sure, it’s probably true that the first thing you think of when taking tonight’s dinner out of the oven is not how cute your hands look while doing it, but take a look at how awesome these potholders by Fat Tomato Designs are, and you might be changing your mind. With designs ranging from polka dots to strawberries to coffee cups and eggs, there’s sure to be a design to make everyone happy.

And it’s not just the design that has me giddy. Each pot holder is made from recycled sweaters, so you can feel good about using your cute new potholders since they’re reusing old products!

A Cuter Way to Keep Track of Your Glasses

animal-eyeglass-keepers
I’ll admit it— I’m terrible when it comes to losing my glasses. As soon as I take them off I’ve forgotten where I put them, and it takes me ages to find them again.
Or at least it used to, until I came across this adorable painted wood eyeglass holder. If you order from Tapir and Friends Wildlife World, you can choose from dozens of options, ranging from my crazy cow to alligators, hummingbirds, pelicans and owls, among others.

Your purchase will also help the Tapir Preservation Fund, which has been working to save the four species of tapir that inhabit the planet today, all of which are endangered.

crock-pot

Recently my boyfriend and I made the trek to my parents house all the way out in New Jersey to collect a few goods I left in their basement when I moved into the city.  Despite a few really great kitchen supplies that I’ve managed to collect here and there, our kitchen has been pretty barren. We fight over our one pot whenever we have more than one meal to make.
Until now. Heaving a huge, plastic container chock full of kitchen goodies was definitely worth it. A girl can never underestimate the power of a great sauce pan, a kickin’ Crock Pot (dinner ready for me when I get home? Heck yeah!) and a cute vase for kitchen flowers. Let the kitchen games begin!
