Good Citizenship Flash Cards

yhst-89215219199417_2081_28315743
Believe it or not, my husband is concerned that my daughter learn good citizenship and she is only three! I guess it’s not too early to begin teaching her how to hold the elevator door open or give up her seat to an elderly person? Hmmm, she is still doing parallel play and can’t quite grasp the concept of sharing her favorite Melissa and Doug puzzle. For  now my daughter just likes to look at the cute animal illustrations and wants me to read the front and back of the cards to her. As a parent, when do you start to instill values on being a good neighbor and member of the community?

Apparently the people at eeBoo think it is a good idea as well. They have created a set of Good Citizenship flash cards illustrated with adorable vintage style animal illustrations to teach kids about responsible community behavior. The set comes with 48 large flash cards with a question on the front and answer on the back, to encourage discussion. On one side is a question and on the flip side is the response on how to behave in a specific situation. For example “When there are chores to do…” and on the flip side it reads, “Cooperate!” The set is for ages 5 and up and comes with two cards with directions for parents.

At what age will you begin to teach your kids to be good citizens?

The Watchword is Whimsy – John Derian Domed Cake Stand

john-derian-domed-cake-stan
I have been a fan of John Derian ever since spotting his delicately decoupaged glass trays and paperweights at Chelsea Passage in Barneys NY. The lovely vintage books and emphera Derian uses are his signature decoupage style. Many of the images used by Derian are antique or vintage book plates featuring botanical and scientific illustrations. I happened upon this lovely domed cake stand – “White Floral” because of its delicate silhouette enclosing what looks like a white bouquet of hydrangea and gardenia. It is an everlasting and beautiful collection of white flowers under which to hide a pretty princess birthday cake or coconut cupakes!

Plan Toys is a company based in Thailand that uses wood from rubber wood trees to manufacture eco-friendly toys. This bright colorful doll house has a modern sensiblity and is open on both sides for easy access to the interior. There are also skylights and a moveable staircase. I love the colorful transparent panels, which can be moved side-to-side. Note that all the accessories are sold separately. This and all toys from Plan Toys are chemical free rubber wood and finished with non-toxic and child friendly colors. The company also has a commitment to a quality products, a safe and fair work environment and eco-friendly materials and practices. Trendspotted: A Stitch in Time – The Quilted Pattern Trend

quiltedhandbags

As an ode to the iconic 2.55 Chanel handbag there are a number of handbags incorporating this the quilting trend.  Quilted handbags feature various patterns primarily stitched onto leather. Many of the Marc Jacobs handbags incorporate quilting into the styling of the bag as well. Quilting can also be seen on accessories like this Stella McCartneyWide quilted waist belt (upper left on model, $525 at Net-a-Porter) and of course winter puffer jackets. Embroidered patterns are laid out in vertical and horizontal patterns overlap to create diamond or other patterns that add dimension and texture.

We’ve spotted some of our favorite styles that incorporate the quilting trend. Juicy Couture’s Serena Quilted Duffel Tote (upper right, $198.00 at ShopBop.com) is constructed of nylon and has plenty of room to store your essentials inside 3 zip front pockets and two interior patch pockets. The double rolled handles; ruffled banding and Juicy Couture logo charm give this bag a youthful appeal.  Already on its way to becoming a classic, the Marc Jacobs Women’s Quilted Bruno Satchel (middle right, $1,295.00 at Bloomingdales.com) is shown in black leather and features double handles and gold tone accent hardware. This quilted handbag is tied up with a front belt accent, Marc Jacobs logo, zips closed and is embellished with a faux gold tone turnlock. Balmain’s runway looks continue their influential appeal with this Mat quilted leather bag (bottom right, $1,915 at Net-a-Porter), which is quilted in Italy and assembled by hand in France. Tory Burch’s wearable modern classics are inspired by the designer’s globetrotter adventures. The Tory Burch Quilted Nico Tote, (bottom left, $295.00 at ToryBurch.com) is made of coated quilted poplin. Options for handles include both cross body and dual leather handles. Inside you’ll find two pockets and one side zip pocket just the right size for stashing your keys, phone and other essentials.

Bambu Baby Utensils

bambu-baby-utensils

You may have seen products from The Bambu Company along the aisles of your local Whole Foods recently. I’m a fan of their sustainably grown and harvested, organically grown bamboo. Bambu’s quality crafted products caught my eye with their modern hand crafted designs and clever packaging. Yes, I am a sucker for good design and clever packaging. So much so that I impulsively bought a set of Bambu Baby Utensils at our local Whole Foods. I try to provide BPA-free dishes, cups and utensils during mealtimes.  I thought these would be ideal for aesthetic and for health reasons. I thought that my daughter would use the utensils a couple of times, then they would fall apart or splinter and I’d just toss them in the composting bin.  To my surprise these utensils have lasted at least six months and have held up perfectly in the top rack of my dishwasher. Kids also love them because they are not cold and hard like stainless steel utensils and they have soft edges which are gentle on the mouth.  I can also rest assured that absolutely no bleaches or dyes were used and Bambu’s Bamboo utensils and dinnerware. They are FDA tested and approved. Also Panda lovers take note – this is not the bamboo eaten by the Panda and their food source is not depleted.

Corn on the Cob Made Easy – Baby Butter Corn Picks

butterbaby-corn-holders
Almost every weekend this past summer our family ate corn on the cob. My toddler daughter loves corn and gets a kick out of eating it typewriter style. I found these adorable Butter Baby Corn Picks that make eating corn easy and fun for little hands. I love that my daughter’s hands don’t get buttery and sticky and that she no longer drops her corn onto the floor. The picks come in sets of four including a pair of yellow, pink, green and blue.

These corn picks also interlock for easy and safe storage and I just put them in the top utensil rack of my Miele dishwasher for easy clean up.

Yes To Carrots “C You and C Me” Organic Eye and Face Makeup Remover

yes-to-carrots
This week I ran across a bottle of Yes to Carrots “Can you C Me Eye and Face Makeup Remover “ at Target and thought I would give it a try. It is basically a milky cleanser. I have used Yes To Carrot’s conditioner on my hair but hadn’t tried any of their skincare products. I have been using Arcona for my daily cleansing routine. I was curious about the brand’s paraben free products and anti-oxidant rich ingredients. The price can’t be beat. I picked up a bottle for $6.99 (8.45 oz); it was marked down from $9.99 at Target. So I thought why not give it a try.

The primary ingredients include carrot juice, pumpkin (just in time for Halloween!), sweet potato and Dead Sea mud. It includes some of my favorite foods and Dead Sea mud is definitely full of vitamin rich minerals. Not to mention that all of the fruits and veggies used in the products are pesticide-free and organic. The products are not tested on animals. What’s not to love?

I am a busy working mom, so time is of the essence and the fact that this product can take off my eye AND face makeup all in one fell swoop is worth sharing. The product is lightly scented and very rich and creamy. I can say that it took off my mascara, eyeliner and foundation/blush very effectively. But I did have to apply the cleanser to a cotton ball to remove all traces of eye makeup. I also used the product for cleansing when I was not wearing makeup in the morning and evening. It is very soothing and not drying at all. I’m quite happy with the product and am now inclined to try other products from the range.
