Be Fab in a Flash with Lightning Bolt Jewelry

Feeling ho-hum about your winter wardrobe? Super-charge your look with lightning bolt jewelry! Symbolizing strength and supernatural power, lightning bolts have been flexing their fashion prowess in the form of pendants, earrings, cuffs, and more, and have been spotted worn by Kristen Stewart and Mila Kunis and other red carpet frequenters. From CC Skye to Marc by Marc Jacobs and more, plenty of our favorite jewelry designers are incorporating the lightning bolt into their trendy pieces for a cute yet electrifying effect. Show off your bling with an oversized ring like this Pave Super Woman Ring by CC Skye, or edge things up with a bold gold cuff like this Jennifer Fisher cut-out cuff. If you’re not afraid of some funky-fierce color, these Miu Miu crystal lightning bolt earrings make quite the statement, but if you’re into something a bit more subtle, I love this sweet and simple Dogeared “Whispers” charm necklace. While we’re so used to the cartoon-y lightning bolt symbol, for something a bit more literal, these Annette Ferdinandsen silver lightning earrings offer a more realistic portrayal of a lightning bolt for a unique take on the trend!

Bag Obsession: Diane von Furstenberg Zip Continental Wallet

I love handbags, but when it comes to smaller leather goods, I’m a bit less likely to be infatuated. Don’t get me wrong, I still appreciate nice things, but I’m admittedly more concerned with function when it comes to carrying my money, cards, and ever-growing collection of receipts. You won’t see me switching wallets to match my bag or rockin’ a wallet on its own for the sake of making an impression – in fact, I’m pretty sure I’ve had the same black Coach wallet for the past 8 years! However, ever since I stumbled upon the Diane von Furstenberg Zip Continental Wallet, I’m suddenly tempted to start collecting statement-making wallets – starting with this one! While the tan and hot pink version was what originally caught my eye (love the neutral paired with that pop of neon!), I’ve recently decided that I certainly wouldn’t say no to any of the fashion-forward contrasting color combos! Plus, the dual texture of the python embossed leather with the glossy color-block trim takes the style to a whole new level. True, it’s not the most practical wallet around for the girl who carries a lot of loot (it doesn’t fold completely open), but let’s face it – this wallet is meant to be seen, not buried in your purse!

Bundle Up in a Cozy Knit Collar Scarf

While a winter coat is a no-brainer cold-weather staple, I’ve come to notice that a wisely-chosen cozy accessory can actually make a remarkable difference when it comes to staying warm during the coldest time of the year! In recent times, I’ve become a bit of a scarf addict – in fact, I have scarves of all colors, styles, and thickness so I have several that I can rock in any weather – and I can’t help but pick up on all the ultra-comfy knit scarves that have been cropping up this season. Collar scarves in particular have been catching my eye because they somehow look so glamorous yet comfortable at the same time – after all, they’re designed to hug you tight and are the perfect outfit add-on when you feel like bundling up. Think of them as a more extreme version of the infinity scarf, but even more cozy, as they incorporate extra-chunky knits for that looped-and-layered look that will stop at nothing to protect you from catching a chill! I love this classic knit collar by Bop Basics from Shopbop – its neutral tone will go with everything, and it’s so comfy that you’ll be tempted to rock it everyday! If you’re looking for something a bit more festive, this metallic Michael Kors scarf has that similarly cozy feel but with some added shimmer and an edgy exposed zipper. And as long as you’re not sensitive to itchy fabric, this Madewell mohair scarf will never fail at keeping you extra warm through this winter freeze!

Our 5 Favorite Convertible Mittens For Easy Cold-Weather Texting!

Although it’s safe for us shopping addicts to officially start welcoming spring trends, unfortunately the weather doesn’t often know how to keep up with our fashion-forward tastes. In other words, let’s be honest with ourselves – it’s still freakin’ cold out, so you shouldn’t feel like you’re “out of season” for equipping yourself with some cold-weather must-haves you can actually enjoy now! One of my favorite wintry accessories this season has definitely been the convertible mitten. Unlike fingerless gloves, convertible mittens help you get the best of both worlds by giving you wiggle room to text, but also providing the option to take cover with a cute buttoned mitten extension for extra-chilly days. Sure, they’re not the most streamlined or sleek of glove styles, but they’re pretty awesome for multi-taskers like me who love to bundle up but also value freedom to carry out basic functions (like operating a touch screen)!

Are You Sold on Rebecca Minkoff’s Limited Edition Rose Gold G-Shock Watch?

I won’t lie – I never owned a Baby-G watch myself – and while it wasn’t necessarily my style back in my junior high years when the fad was in its heyday, I still couldn’t deny their funky-coolness for those who were always showing them off in the cafeteria. Unfortunately Ke$ha and Lady Gaga’s stamps of approval weren’t enough to make me reconsider the resurrected style in more recent years, but now that Rebecca Minkoff is putting her more sophisticated spin on the chunky watch, I’m finding myself whistling a different tune! The limited-edition rose gold G-Shock watch by Rebecca Minkoff officially debuted just in time for the holiday shopping rush, but now that the chaos has died down somewhat, I’m considering a purchase. Rebecca’s take on the Baby-G is slightly more sophisticated than you might remember from the late 90s (chunky plastic, transparent neon shades, in-your-face digital display, etc.) with its black resin bracelet, “pink champagne” colored dial with black studded details. It’s still got that funky tough-girl flair, but with a little more 2012 edge and less playground appeal. Make sure it’s on your Valentine’s Day wish list (hint, hint) before the style is gone for good!

Go Preppy-Chic & Trendy with a Tassel Bag

You may have hated your old high school uniform, either because it stifled your fashion freedom or was just plain ugly (or both), but nowadays, everyone who’s ever seen an episode of Gossip Girl knows that preppy-chic is something to strive for! As a result, tassel accented handbags are having a bit of an extended moment in the style spotlight, and we’re loving what this added fringe provides to our favorite handbags. Way cooler than those dorky tasseled oxfords your dad wears, but not quite as extreme as full-on western-inspired fringe, tassels give movement and add visual interest while still looking polished and sophisticated. Sure, a handbag can totally make or break your outfit, but it shouldn’t upstage the rest of your look, and these preppy pieces add the perfect dash of class!

Channel Your Inner Cleopatra with Liz Taylor Inspired Pieces!

While Elizabeth Taylor’s 1963 portrayal of Cleopatra may not have been spot-on in a historical sense, for all you biography buffs, her likeness continues to be a reigning influence in the beauty and fashion world when it comes to all things cat-eyed, gold, and infused with girl power. And while most fashionable Liz Taylor worshippers can’t afford to spend a lifetime’s wardrobe budget on authentic pieces from the movie star’s own collection (though we have been dreamily perusing the Christie’s auction site just for fun), we can still channel her fierce and fabulous Cleopatra look with some modern-day interpretations of the gilded styles. Liz Taylor’s love of coin-embellished trinkets lives on with a more wallet-friendly version of what we might have found in her own jewelry box – this Kenneth Jay Lane Gold Coin Pendant is simple and elegant yet still statement-making in its own way. Similarly, this gorgeous drape-y Temperley London dress looks fit for a queen with its intricate beading and applique details. For Cleopatra inspired glamour that still manages to be on-trend, this black-and-gold python embossed clutch by Elaine Turner has gorgeous texture and just the right amount of sheen. And don’t forget a pair of fierce gold caged sandals – luckily they’re much easier to walk in when you’re not roaming the scorching sands of Egypt!

Be a Modern-Day Glamazon Inspired by the Vintage-Chic Looks of Elizabeth Taylor!

Authentic rubies from Elizabeth Taylor’s jewelry collection sold like hotcakes during Christie’s online auction, but you can still channel the late star’s iconic glamour with pieces inspired by her timeless beauty and screen siren presence… and save yourself millions of dollars in the process! It may be a bit too early to plan for next year’s holiday soiree season, but surely you can find an excuse to wear a show-stopping cocktail party look during the winter season at hand! Spark conversation with a Swarovski ruby crystal ring from Thomas Laine while you mingle and sip on a martini or cosmo, but make sure you leave your other hand free to carry a classic slim clutch, like this one by Jason Wu. It may be a bit too chilly to show as much décolletage as Liz managed to pull off, but you can channel a warmer, modern version of her gorgeous bejeweled look with a long-sleeved dress like this form-fitting Milly wool sheath, complete with a dramatic beaded neckline. Don’t forget to cozy up in a faux fur jacket to mimic Elizabeth’s glamorous fur stole, and lace peep-toe pumps complete the look with a little throwback sex appeal!

Look For Less: Liz Taylor’s Heart-Shaped Pendant

Channeling a young Elizabeth Taylor is a lot harder than it looks. In fact, even modern-day glamazon Kim Kardashian has spent over $65,000 on Taylor’s jade bracelets just in the attempt to “harness” her energy. After all, although her jewelry collection is proving to have quite the sky-high price, as demonstrated by Christie’s online auction, the late movie star had a priceless effect on her fans; she had that dramatic gorgeousness that still managed to be warm, friendly and approachable. In other words, she had that whole trying-without-looking-like-you’re-trying-at-all effortlessness down to a science – and beauty and fashion mavens everywhere will continue to look up to her legacy for years and years to come. But just because Taylor’s jewelry has been auctioned off at a price you can barely believe, that doesn’t mean you can’t harness a little Liz energy of your own with lookalike pieces that still manage to capture her youthful spirit and timeless beauty. This Pave Diamond Heart Necklace by Zoe Chicco is a favorite of modern-day “It girls” like Dakota Fanning and Vanessa Hudgens, but looks like something like Liz Taylor might have worn if she had the chance to out-glam the modern fashion icons in this day and age. And for only $185, this necklace is the perfect addition to start your own statement-making jewelry collection, with just the right amount of glitz without breaking the bank!

Shimmer Like Liz Taylor With Champagne-Hued Pieces

There’s always a good reason to toast to Elizabeth Taylor’s iconic style, even if you were sadly left in the dust during Christie’s widely-successful online auction of the star’s personal baubles. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to pay tribute to Liz’s timeless elegance – namely, with champagne-hued trinkets and pieces just in time to ring in the new year! First, start with a budget-friendly version of Taylor’s gorgeous teardrop earrings – these Swarovski crystal drop earrings by Kenneth Jay Lane, available at Thomas Laine, channel her energy without having to out-bid the competitors! After all, if you’re going to be working the room at the end-of-year cocktail parties with a glass of glimmering bubbly in your hand, you’ve got to wear something even sparklier to make sure the attention is all on you! Ditch the sequins and go for feminine ruffles, courtesy of these budget-friendly Audrey Brooke pumps, while this shimmery champagne clutch from Michael Kors gets some gorgeous texture with a lizard-effect pattern. And don’t forget a show-stopping mini dress that’ll show off all your Elizabeth-esque curves, like this champagne-and-gold bandage dress by Hervé Léger!
