For Her –

Sparkly Anything – Whether you rock multicolor sequins or go with one color tone, show off your shoulders in straps or get a little extra warmth with long sleeves, sparkly dresses, skirts and shirts are a perfect match for New Year’s Eve parties. We especially like the sequin dresses in the Lauren Conrad line.

Colorful Pants – Add some pow to your outfit with colorful pants. Pair red pants with a white blouse and black blazer for a chic combo.

Makeup – Keep your lip marks to yourself by using a lip stain from the Hourglass Aura Sheer Lip Stain line and don’t forget to add some glitz to your nails with metallic, bright colored or even glitter nail polish. Our top pick goes to Deborah Lippman’s Cleopatra in New York polish.

For Him –

Leather Jacket – A leather jacket will make admirers melt. Some great options include jackets from Topman, John Varvatos Star USA or Hugo Boss.

Blazer – Dress up an outfit with a nice blazer in black, navy, grey or even a pattern. Club Monaco and The Gap both have nice selections.

Bow Tie – Not feeling a tie this year? Try a bow tie. This fun and charming addition will catch some attention.

Blazers Get the Fall Treatment with Leather Lapel Details

Blazers and their slightly-more-structured cousin, the tuxedo jacket, have been a style staple for the casual fashionista everywhere. Throw one on over a classic tee and jeans and you’ve instantly transformed your look from lazy to luxe. Top off a tank and shorts and you’ve got yourself a night-out ensemble that’s totally sophisticated and sexy. The possibilities are endless, and the transition power is always impressive, and now just in time for fall, some of our favorite styles are getting even more stylish with chic leather details. Leather lapels are a subtle yet sexy way to edge up your favorite suited-up look – it’s just as sleek and polished, but with the slightest rock ‘n roll touch that’s perfect for pairing with your new spiky heels or moto ankle boots! It’s the perfect transition piece from summer to fall, if you’re not quite ready to break out the full-on leather jacket!

You Won’t Want to Miss the Season’s Red-Hot Blazers!

Black, tan, charcoal, pinstriped, plaid, tweed, and beyond – you’ve already got a collection of blazers in every neutral shade and print to keep you covered for every occasion, from “casual Friday” to the biggest interview of your life! But playing it safe with a goes-with-everything hue or pattern is overrated. Why not pop with a statement-making shade like cherry red? There’s something classic about red that’s stand-out sexy without coming across like you’re trying too hard. Just like a little red dress helps you earn envious glances at a party, a red blazer is the perfect sophisticated way to look polished, sleek, and stylish in a professional setting (or even at happy hour) without needing to blend in with the crowd. And just because it’s bold doesn’t mean it’s destined to clash with the rest of your wardrobe – since it’s solid, it looks great with any muted print or coordinating hue, and basically goes with anything as long as you let this stand-out piece steal the show!

Your Fall Wardrobe Gets the Printed Treatment With a Festive Blazer

  • posted September 19th, 2011

Among the many, many pieces that make up my fall wardrobe (not bragging – I’m just a hoarder), I have to say that my most frequently worn pieces are definitely my blazers. Whether cropped and fitted or more relaxed and boyfriend-inspired, they somehow manage to give no matter what I’m wearing underneath (even a casual tee!) a suddenly more streamlined, sophisticated appearance. But just because they’re my go-to “I-need-to-look-more-serious” closet item, doesn’t mean they need to boring, or even solid for that matter! This season’s hottest blazers are getting the printed treatment to add pizzazz to this bleak fall! Mix patterns if you’re feeling gutsy by pairing a floral blazer (Forever 21 Floral Chiffon Blazer) over a simple striped sweater, or add a little Mad Men vibe with subtly quirky polka dots (ASOS Spot Print Chiffon Blazer). Personally I’m loving this serpent-print ‘Jess’ Blazer by Of Two Minds, which is on the looser side, but you can belt it for a more figure-flattering, sexy look!

Vintage Pick Of the Day: Vintage 1990s Jean Paul Gaultier Khaki Blazer

You may be familiar with the expression “The devil is in the details” but I say “The MAGIC is in the details!

Especially when it comes to staple pieces in wardrobe-building colors.

Just because you are adding black pants or a navy skirt or a khaki blazer to your closet doesn’t mean it has to be ho-hum and boring.

Keep looking until you find the perfect piece with at least one amazing little detail that you love—even if you think no one else will ever notice it. Believe me, you’ll know it and that confidence will show in your posture and your personality every time you wear it.

Of course, sometimes you’ll find staple pieces with amazing details others can’t help but notice. Like with todays’ VPOD.

This vintage 1990s khaki blazer is by Jean Paul Gaultier and it’s anything but ordinary. In fact, it’s quite avant-garde while still somehow retaining its classic roots. I just L-O-V-E the sleeve detail!

It’s an amazing staple find for a vintage fashionista!

Edge Up The Prep School Look With a Plaid Blazer

  • posted December 1st, 2010
  • Fashion

Plaid has been a casual-wear staple for the last handful of seasons, decking out casual-cute button-up tops, boyfriend-inspired flannels, and cozy wool coats. The result is sometimes slightly western (especially paired with a cute pair of cropped moto boots), or maybe a refined revival of the grunge era when layered and unbuttoned. This season, however, plaid’s going in another direction, going prep-school-cool with buttoned-up (or not) blazers of all shapes and silhouettes! They’ll take you back to your private school days, when you wish you could cut up that boring uniform and turn it into something cool! Stay trimmed and tailored with a shrunken jacket like this one by Eight Sixty, or if you prefer to keep the look slouchy (yet still totally sophisticated!), try this oversized Club Monaco blazer over a pair of winter-friendly shorts and tights or over-the-knee boots! For something a bit funkier, I also love this L.A.M.B. Military Jacket for an on-trend take on the bandleader jacket!

Look Sleek and Chic In a Velvet Blazer

  • posted December 1st, 2010
  • Fashion

Since their popular resurgence, blazers have taken on various forms — cropped, shrunken, boyfriend, power shoulders, wool, jersey — and been adorned with dozens of embellishments — sequins, studs, beading, chains, and what-have-you. You’d think the look would start to grow tired after awhile, but with each oncoming season, the blazer manages to get made over again and again to keep the trend fresh, timely, and chic. For the winter season, velvet is the modern blazer’s textile of choice, whether it’s adding gentle texture to a simple black tailored jacket, or giving off a velvety sheen, like soft crushed metal. Either way, I love the way the material gives the tried and true silhouette a cozier, more laid-back feel, just in time for the chillier weather, yet still looks polished and sleek when dressed up for the office or a night out. Show off your shape with a single-button blazer  like this fitted velvet blazer from Banana Republic, or add an element of surprise with this sheer lace-back version by Tibi. To embrace more festive wintry shades, try for an evergreen or icy blue like this Halogen ‘Liquid Velvet’ Jacket, which looks especially cozy when paired with a coordinating scarf, or mix in a little military flair like this Elizabeth and James ‘Lewis’ blazer!

Look Sleek & Stylish in an Embellished Blazer

  • posted October 18th, 2010
  • Fashion

While boyfriend blazers were last fall’s must-have jacket for that professional-turned-everyday look, this year the suited-up style is getting a bit glitzier. Slightly more fitted (yet not uptight!) with a bit more volume in the shoulders for extra drama, this season’s embellished blazers incorporate beads, sequins, studs, and more for a look that’s edgier, more eye-catching, and ready to hit the town! Despite the extra shimmer, these picks still remain versatile and polished — wear with a silky dress for a girlie look with a little added structure, or dress up your skinny jeans and a tank with a blazer and a pair of platform pumps!

This Elizabeth & James Embellished Blazer does the shoulder detail trend in a way that’s much more chic than your high school band uniform, while this Seventy Two Changes ‘Odin’ Blazer has a looser, more relaxed feel for a vintage-modern look that’s retro without looking dated. As for military-inspired picks, I love the chain detail of this fitted LaROK Luxe Broach blazer, while the olive tint of this Foley + Corinna Studded Jacket has a tough-girl vibe that’s still totally sexy!
