Designer Uggs for a Good Cause

And not just any Uggs

We thought we were mainly obsessed with Uggs because they’re incredibly comfortable and warm. But when we heard about the possibility of Betsey Johnson Uggs, we were suddenly more interested. Could Uggs be super cute too? And help out a good cause? Yes, we’re listening.

And Betsey Johnson isn’t the only one designing Uggs. We also have Manolo Blahnik (yesss!), Giuseppe Zanotti, Rebecca Minkoff, LaROK, True Religion, and Stuart Weitzman will also be designing them. When we say designing, we really mean decorating. So, they’ll take a normal pair of Uggs and jazz them up to represent their own designer tastes.

We’ll take a pair or two, please. The Uggs will be for sale as part of an event Ugg Australia is hosting called the Art and Sole Auction, which benefits St. Jude’s Hospital. So, in case Stuart Weitzman isn’t reason enough for you to purchase Uggs, you should know that 100% of the proceeds are going to the children’s hospital.

The Uggs will be on sale from December 1-14, so get thinking about what you want your bids to be. And sweet dreams of wearing designer Uggs on your feet all winter long. Or maybe you should just display them in a glass case instead. Yes, they’ll be that pretty!

Cheryl Shops Fall Shopping Guide: Over-the-Knee Boots

With hemlines showing no signs of lowering and designers even embracing the scary no-pants look, there is only one rational solution: over-the-knee boots. I’ve already seen several pairs out and about in the streets of NYC, and while there are many options out there, the boots I’m after are the ones closer to styles seen on the runway. My criteria: They must have a heel, they must hit above the top of the kneecap, and they must be fitted around the top (no notches or angled cuffs). Of course, this is not a look for everyone; long, thin, toned legs are a plus. But with a well-constructed pair that fits properly, you can at least create that illusion.

$$$
These Sigerson Morrison boots are suede, which does not reflect light like leather does, and that, coupled with the fact that they have stretch, make them perfect for those with thicker legs. (If, like me, you have bony ankles, stay away.) The elastic around the top will keep them in place, and the three-inch heel is definitely manageable.

These Contente boots by Christian Louboutin are definitely an investment, but they’re so well engineered, they don’t even need zippers, stretch, or any whistles and bells to stay up. They also get bonus points for coming up the highest of any pair featured here, making them perfect for wearing with even your shortest dress.

It is fall – YES – It is finally 68 degrees in Los Angeles and I can feel the nip in the air. The rest of the country has been preparing for Halloween for weeks now while Los Angeles has been waiting for the heatwaves to stop so we can concentrate on boots, cashmere sweaters, and coats.

Let’s talk boots boots boots today. Motorcycle boots are the boots to buy this season and I have some top picks for you. Celebrities like Charlize Theron, Sienna Miller, and many others have been seen with a version of the motorcycle boot.

Object of Desire: Alexander Wang Anya Booties

Being a New Yorker, I have a lot–possibly too much–black in my closet, particularly when it comes to blazers, skirts, pants, and boots. Counting everything from booties to knee-high boots, I’d estimate that I have at least 10 pairs, most of which I do routinely wear, and this year I will probably buy at least another pair. (Because, hey, they’re all different!) My last few purchases have been booties, which I’ve found work with both pants and skirts, and while I have a patent Sigerson Morrison and a cutout Loeffler Randall, what I don’t have is a great platform bootie. Which is why Alexander Wang’s Anya booties are totally perfect. The 5-inch heel will put me over 6 feet tall and elongate my legs in this season’s ultra-skinny pants, while the 1.25-inch platform will help with the comfort issue. The sculpted heel is ultra-hot, and the pleating gives the bootie an interesting texture, avoiding the fin-like effect that some booties can have on one’s feet. In fact, the only thing that’s not perfect about them is the price: $590. However, unlike Wang’s drool-worthy handbags, they aren’t sold out everywhere, which at least makes them attainable–and in light of how much a pair of Louboutins or YSL shoes costs, $600 for boots almost seems downright reasonable. The Anya boots are also available on Wang’s newly-launched e-commerce site in black or in chalk, with a forward-thinking clear heel (a look that’s been showing up all over the spring runways). Hey, what’s another pair of black boots when I already own 10?

Fall Boots! and the Winner is Sigerson Morrison

sigersonmorrison_highboots
Boots are my specialty. An amazing boot makes the outfit and this season’s over the knee boot fits the bill. Suede feels fresh this season – plus it is more comfortable than leather (which can feel like a cast) worn over the knee, especially when it is faux or combined with elastic. I’m also leaning toward a bit of a heel – not too crazy to wear with jeans during the day but sexier than a flat with dresses. Finally, my ideal over the knee boot requires that I have the ability to slouch it down below the knee if I so choose. (Because Mama can’t always be sexy Mama :) ). Here are my top five:  And the winner is: Sigerson Morrison! In order boots by Stuart Weitzman, Barbara Bui, Miu Miu, Brian Atwood (second runner up) and Sigerson Morrison

Shoes—The 2 Bandits Take Your Boots for a Ride

2009_07_21_sunday
‘Sunday’ will take you through the week

I’m totally digging these boots accessories from The 2 Bandits, a collection by NYC founders Erica Chan (originally from Cali) and Tamar Wider (from Texas), who cut their teeth in the jewelry industry. Ranging from $40-$167 (with a number of styles on sale now!), the add-ons are handcrafted in brass and quality fabrications. I love the versatility these adjustable bands offer—studded, embroidered, and sweet to rough-and-tumble hardware all giving ample effect without indulging in another pair of boots. Here is a peek at fall, but for the current collection, check the site.

Perfectly Practical Peep Toe Ankle Boots

peeptoe_ankleboots
As you may well know, boots are now a year round must-have. Although on a 90-degree day you may not want to tread in a pair of leather boots, but it’s fun to dream of and search for the perfect boots for cooler autumn days just ahead. Of course this dreaming will require air conditioning or an overcast day. Today is one of those days, overcast here in California and the perfect inspiration for fall boot shopping. One particular on my shopping wish list is the peep toe ankle boot. It is the perfect year round boot. As pretty with a spring dress as it is with a pair of leggings or skinny jeans and winter coat.

I’ve got my eye on a pair of Sergio Rossi “Maxime” ankle boots. They are pretty and sleek in Italian leather set on a covered platform in caramel. Sigerson Morrison continues their girly with an edge attitude in this asymmetrical fold over peep toe boot. The purple pairs perfectly with black and pretty much 75% of my wardrobe, so this pair is a no-brainer. On to the Alexander McQueen rocker chick peep toe boots with the gratuitous skull zipper fob. The McQueen boot looks like a mini motorcycle jacket on the opening of the shoe, very clever! The Steve Madden peep toe platform in rip roaring violet is pretty much a steal for fifty bucks, and the proportions are well done and I always love a covered platform. These pretty Halston ankle boots will last a few seasons, they are a timeless classic and look great with bare legs and pretty solid color dresses for spring. Of course I can always justify another pair of rockin’ boots, so perhaps I’ll just take one of each since peep toe ankle boots are now a year-round must-have. And all of these beauties I must have!

Ankle boots featured from top left clockwise:
Sergio Rossi “Maxime” Ankle Boots, $995 at Saks.com
Sigerson Morrison Purple High Heel Peep Toe Booties with Cape Cuff $750.00
Alexander McQueen Black Peep-toe ankle boots $1,155 at Net-a-Porter
Steve Madden Roarr Suede Purple Peep Toe Platform Booties, $49.99 at Amazon.com
Halston Peep toe ankle boots, $930 at Net-a-Porter
