Shearling for Spring

by Carlina Harris

With March finally here, thoughts of sunnier days ahead of us seem within reach. That is until Mother Nature decided to grace California with unpredictable weather including but not limited to: rain, freezing cold bursts, and the occasional sunny day- what gives lady? I’m not sure what pouting is going to get me, but I do think I have a solution- and pretty fashionable one at that! Hello Shearling!

Shearling has been at the fashion forefront as of late last year, when darling designer Christopher Bailey sent his Burberry models cascading down the runway in Amelia Earhart-esque shearling aviator jackets! I’m not one to snub my nose at greatness- but who realistically can afford a $3000 jacket? One can only hope- for now (until Bachelor Brad comes knocking on my door for a proposal and bearing gifts of um Burberry jackets?) to still achieve this stature of cool with many more affordable and equally fierce options!

My favorites from the bunch include the ever popular- Nastygal- picks. The Shearling Drape Jacket in camel makes my heart swoon, and at only $68, my finger is on the trigger to purchase this baby! Another luxe option is the longer version of the UHIF Chelsea Shearling coat in a tamer cream shade ($178). Throw on a pair of cat-eye shades, whip up your ‘slept in’ hair and call it day- cuz you look hot lady!

Look For Less: Burberry Brit Trench Coat

A fantastic beige trench coat seems to effortlessly encapsulate classic sophistication. Adding a traditional elegance to any outfit while also guarding its wearer from the harshest weather. A simple double breasted trench coat also has had the ability to transcend generations of trends, ensuring that any non-fade beige investment is well-worth the splurge for years to come. But as much as we desire and covet the ideal Burberry Brit Trench (top center) found in almost every high-end Fashionista’s closet, not everyone has $700+ to drop on the classic staple, all-weather, wool-lined coat.

Luckily, we here at TheFind have access to an arsenal of options that can fit the bill for a classic beige trench coat. As stylish and snug as the Burberry Brit trench, and at a mere fraction, here are a few of our favorites:

Esprit Double Breast Button Trench Coat: ($69.75, Center bottom) At 50% OFF the MSRP, this Esprit trench comes in a casual beige with dark buttons. Military inspired epaulets add a stylish detail on the shoulders with an added classic notched-collar and button cuffs.

Lacoste’s Long Sleeve Double Breasted Trench Coat: ($161.99, bottom left) With a double-breasted, five button closure, and fabric waits belt, Lacoste’s take on the trench coat is extremely close to the original classic design of its predecessor. This one has an adorable little Lacoste crocodile embroidered on the right pocket.

Juicy Couture’s Ruffle Twill Short Jacket: ($248, bottom right) A more modern and fashionable take on the trench coat but definitely worthy of its own mention. Juicy Couture’s Ruffle Twill Short Jacket is an extremely feminine and, sexy, and original take and twist on the classic Brit trench.

At an astonishing $25, you can stay within budget to save, and splurge on something else you might have your eye on, or on another sweet pair of rain boots.

Jellies for Ladies!

For those of us of a certain age, nothing has more summertime nostalgia than jelly shoes. A vacation staple for decades, jelly shoes are now getting a stylish update from some of the hottest shoe designers. Flat and sassy, these are an easy summer staple and the plastic jelly material means these shoes keep a playful sense of humor too!

Stuart Weitzman in particular has picked up the jelly idea and run with it in a number of versatile styles that can go from the pool to the yacht to dinner in one smooth transition. The Blingy shoe comes in a number of neutral tones from clear to gold to black; a dusting of crystals across the toes adds the perfect touch of sparkle. Meanwhile, the Beadles sandal combines clear plastic jelly with a lush and colorful rainbow of teardrop beads. For the pool, Stuart Weitzman’s Zano thong mixes in a touch of metallic shimmer with bubbles of gold or silver.

For a fun and preppy take on this trend, Burberry’s Jelly Thong offers the classic Burberry plaid in multiple colors on the insole. The shade is then picked up in the plastic jelly body of the sandal, offering a playful pop of color around the foot.

Fun and sophisticated, these jelly sandals are quintessential summer style, mixing high fashion labels with a bit of childish whimsy. Isn’t it nice to know that jellies aren’t just for little girls any more?
