Garlic Graters Just Got Better

chefn-garlic-chopper

I’ve never been a big fan of garlic. Don’t get me wrong, I love the taste — but has there ever been a more difficult food to work with? First you peel it, and then you mash it or chop it. It’s impossible to work with garlic without smelling the remnants on your hands for days.

Until now. The words “fun” and “garlic” didn’t belong in the same sentence until Chef’n came along. Their GarlicZoom XL is basically a cute little mini-garlic chopper on wheels. Open the top of the device, insert a few garlic cloves, close it and start wheeling away. The removable stainless steel blade does all of the chopping for you, allowing you to keep your fingers garlic-free while still enjoying the flavor.

Cutting Board Coolness

tab-cutting-boards

I think I can safely say that this product is one of the best kitchen goods ideas I’ve seen in a while — and it’s so simple. Index your cutting boards. Why didn’t I think of that? Uncommon Goods does just that with their set of four cutting boards that are labeled and color-coordinated for veggies, fish, raw meat and cooked foods. As a vegetarian who greatly appreciates it when her veggies are kept separate from the meat products, these boards are an angel in disguise. Now my boyfriend can cook all the chicken he wants, and I will never need to worry if my green beans are safe again.

Fresh Herbs: Fresher for Longer

cuisipro-herb-keeper
With a little bunny to feed, I’m constantly buying parsley and dill, and any other green grub that happens to be his favorite herb-of-the-moment. No matter how creative I tried to get in order to preserve them and store them, though, within a few days they would all inevitably shrivel. Then I found Cuisipro’s solution: the herb keeper. The suspended tray holds herb bunches in bundles so you quickly grab your pre-sorted out piles of herbs. The stems are soaked in water to keep them fresh, and the tray lifts out for easy cleaning. Messy, moldly herbs? Problem solved!

A Nifty Gadget Turns Solid Food Into Baby Food Instantly

The Wean Machine makes nutritious and healthy baby food with no noise, no mess, and no fuss! Just fill, squeeze and feed … how simple is that? We love this little gadget that can be tossed into the Diaper bag and used anywhere. Just put some of your own food, like a banana, green beans, avocado, into the Wean Machine and presto … you have nutritious foods for your baby.

And this useful little item comes with it’s own feeding spoon, so all you have to add is the food! A great little gift item and certainly a wonderful Baby Shower gift. Check www.JuvenileSolutions.com for a store location near you.

A Little Pepper, Please

Yes, it might seem like the height of laziness, but if a super-cool, shiny accessory could grind your pepper for you, with the simple act of being turned upside down, wouldn’t you be amazed?

I definitely was with my new automatic pepper grinder. Although I must admit that the old-fashioned, churn-it-out pepper grinders do have a nice old time-ey feel, this new product definitely takes the cake. It’s battery operated, and all I need to do is tip the tool upside down and my freshly grinded pepper is handed to me on a platter. The only thing I will miss about my old pepper grinder is how cute it was. Who can pass up a grinder that looks like a rabbit? I’ll still keep that around for the kiddie table, because it’s fun. The adults can use the grown-up version.

And don’t forget about pepper’s No. 1 mate: the salt grinder.

Feeling Depressed or With Anxiety..Eat Hummus!!

<span class=

Hummus (a dip or spread made of blended chickpeas, sesame tahini, lemon juice and garlic) is probably one of the best appetizer out there…not only it tastes delicious but it’s also a nutritional treasure. It has a high content of important minerals like Manganese, Copper and Sodium, and also some Calcium, Iron, Magnesium and Zinc. It is relatively reach in Vitamin C and B6 and also contain vitamin E, K, Folate and Thiamin…and with 300 mg of Omega 3 per serving makes it effective in the treatment for minor mood disorders, such as depression and anxiety ( studies have shown that Omega 3 is extremely important supplement in the treatment of depression, mood swings and anxiety). It also makes you really satisfied without increasing your glucose levels very much (very helpful if you are on a diet…!!). You can either buy a prepackage one ( less healthy) or you can take a chance and do it yourself. Once you have done it once you will see that not only it’s pretty simple to make but you will taste the difference with the store bought one immediately!

Ingredients

1/4 Cup Yogurt
1 Can Garbanzo Beans “Chick Peas”
1/2 Cup Tahini (Sesame Seed Paste)
1/2 Cup Lemon Juice
2-3 Cloves of Garlic
1/2 Tsp of Salt
1/4 Tsp citric acid “if you need more lemon taste” ( I do not use)
2 Tbs water “if to thick” (sometimes I need to put it )
3-4 Fresh Mint Leaves “for taste” ( I do not use)
2 Tbs of Fresh Parsley “for garnish” ( sometimes I will use it)
1 Tsp of Cayenne Pepper or Paprika “for garnish” put it on top 2 minutes before serving)
1/4 Cup of Olive Oil “for garnish” (always)

Preparation

Mix first 9 ingredients and blend until smooth and to desired thickness. Garnish with parsley, cayenne pepper and olive oil….and voila you have a fabulous healthy appetizer in 5 minutes.

I usually serve it with carrot, celery and always some toasted pita ( you can also buy the Pita prepackage if you run out of time).

Father’s Day Gifting: Cook Book

Let the Father’s Day gifting begin:  a genius present for the chef who, like my husband, collects internet and magazine recipes for later use.

Yes, you could also purchase a binder and protective sheets for the same purpose; but then you have to find a stand big and stable enough to steady your book, and by the time you, sweaty and cursing, wrangle the binder into submission, your family has already phoned for pizza.

Foget scrunchies or hair clips, we’ve now entered the era of HairZing!

Did I cover it all? Is there anything else that anyone in the world needs in order to enjoy Super Bowl? If so, please let us know! I’m dying to know if there are any other Super Bowl faves out there.

I don’t know about you, but I’m ALL about the ads during Super Bowl. I was very happy to hear that there won’t be any political ads this year. Thank goodness! This is the time for advertisers to shine and show their best and sometimes craziest stuff. It’s the Super Bowl of advertising and I can’t wait.

BTW, who’s playing?!?

Happy Searching/Shopping,
