Decors—Ikat Teapots Brighten Any Day at Distant

2009_11_17_IkatMadness2

At some point I will have to do a full-fledged post on Distant at 4516 Hollywood Boulevard, steps away for the intersection of Sunset Bouelvard and Hillhurst Avenue. The decor shop carries exquisite home decor items from across the globe, as well as some of owner’s Arzu Benavides creations. Turkish bath towels, handwoven textiles, hand-blown glass lighting fixtures, one-of-a-kind leather handbags—pieces that lift your spirits with their craftsmanship and care.

I’m loving these vintage 1960’s Ikat teapots, bowls and plates with such bold, bright color and design shown above. Bowls are $18.99, plates (which would be great for serving and entertaining) are $64.99, and the teapots seem quite nicely prices at $49.99.

The shop is also having a clearance on pillows, now $19.99, and Thanksgiving sale on tablecloths, runners and placemats at 25%-40% off.

If you haven’t been, I highly recommend checking this place out, open Mon-Sat 11am-6pm, and down the way from Confederacy, American Apparel, Happy, and more.

Brooching the Topic

Cute curtains can bring an entire room together. Especially if you have a lot of windows in your abode, it’s important to get the right colors and the right fabric.

So much thought goes into the curtains themselves, I sometimes feel sorry for the sad little curtain tie backs that seem to get left in the dust. Most curtains come with plain ole’ boring ones, or hideous ones that probably would have been found back in ancient castles of yore. You’re too special for all those. Check out these adorable antique brooch curtain tie backs — they would be perfect with light colored, flowy fabrics in almost any room. If the whole brooch thing is too old-school for you, how about something more outdoorsy, like a branch curtain tie back? I envision a gorgeous den in a wooden cabin with a glowing fireplace, and these great branch tie backs holding open the curtains to the winter-ey wonderland view.

I can dream, can’t I?

Decorate The Ladder

Back in my college days, I would have never been savvy enough to recognize that a plain wooden ladder could actually be a cute addition to my living room. Lucky for me, I happened to visit a cousin of mine who had recently moved into a new place, and she was using a cute, decorative ladder to hold some throw blankets she had collected over the years.

Also lucky for me, I didn’t even need to purchase a ladder. My father had built one for me, along with the loft to hold my bed during my dorm living freshman and sophomore years. I kept that ladder, painted it, had my friends write and paint on it as well. That ladder traveled with me from apartment to apartment through the years, always reminding me of certain memories and certain people. Today it lives in my bedroom, with my own throw blanket strewn haphazardly through one of its rungs. Who would have known that after all these years, the one thing I would never be able to part with would have cost my dad about $5 to make, and almost nothing for me to decorate.

Room of the Day!

There is something very intimate & glamorous about this room! Love the sofa’s headboard! What a great balance between the soft cream color of the sofa and the masculine leather chair…! You can find me here tonight after a long day…having some wine with a good friend!! {Image via Canadian House & Home}

Social Media Throw Pillows

social-media-pillows

You could say I’m on top of the whole social media trend. With Twitter, Facebook, Myspace and other sites, I’m always in the know about what my friends are doing, the latest insider sales, and celeb gossip (sometimes right from the source!). My laptop and iPhone are littered with apps that are supposed to streamline my time on the Web sites, but sometimes I still get overwhelmed. Sure I get stressed when Britney doesn’t personally reply to my tweet or I consider unfriending someone on Facebook, but at the end of the day, these Web sites are just for fun and we shouldn’t forget the power of face-to-face interactions. So when I need to relax I think I’ll reach for a social media pillow straight from Etsy user Craftsquatch! I know what you’re thinking: a social media pillow? They’re super fun handmade pillows with the logos of your favorite Web sites and even applications– like Photoshop! So the next time Facebook stops loading or the Twitter fail whale shows up, go ahead and hug your throw pillow and think of the days when they didn’t exist… but be sure to update your status once it’s back up!

You can find affordable mirrors at flea market or even major retail stores (yes Walmart, Target..you name it)..the trick is buying some great paint spray and transform the frame.
Hope you have a fantastic week..full of charm!!

Jill Stuart’s Fabulous Chic Oasis in NY

This fabulous Soho penthouse belongs to no other than fashion designer Jill Stuart. Love the serene feeling that they created by keeping the color palette very simple. The art & accessories used through out the apartment keeps it alive and contemporary. And what about the white canvas in the master bedroom…?? It’s like you almost have the urge to want to put some something on it, but it looks fabulous just as is. A great reminder before you close your eyes..that life is always a white canvas ready to be colored by you! Hope you have a fabulous day! To see more pictures of the fabulous penthouse go here.

It’s All In the Light

track-lighting

Whenever someone walks into my apartment, the first thing they mention isn’t my furniture. It isn’t the paint or the flat screen television, or even the cute bunny huddling in the corner.

It’s the lighting.

There’s all kinds of lighting, and I was lucky enough to stumble upon an apartment that had great lighting built in, so I didn’t have to worry about it. It’s track lighting, and it’s a wonderful thing. It can be dim or bright, and I can point the light to the left or the right, or, in the living room where we have four separate lights bulbs, I can point them north, south, east and west, all at once.

A great man once said, “Let there be light.” I couldn’t agree more.

Choosing, printing, and gluing pictures to this frameable family tree (which fits in an IKEA Ribba) is so much more fun than just scribbling in the names.
