Boy Meets Girl® by Stacy Igel Takes Over NYFW with its Fall 2013 Invasion Collections

  • posted February 25th, 2013

Sporty-chic contemporary brand Boy Meets Girl® by Stacy Igel made its big New York Fashion Week comeback earlier this month with the “Invasion Collections.” The high-energy runway show featured not only new styles from the popular Boy Meets Girl® Classic Collection, but also marked the debut of two new collections, Boy Meets Girl® University and Boy Meets Girl® GIRLS! Slouchy sweatshirt-inspired tees, graffiti-scrawled jackets, plenty of poppy prints, and edgy layering pieces galore – the latest additions to the brand were the perfect mix of casual yet stylish, with a healthy dose of color that came across as fun without verging on loud. The new Fall 2013 pieces were made even more covetable with the help of some edgy accessorizing, courtesy of Melody Ehsani jewelry and Go Jane wedge sneakers. Founder and Creative Director Stacy Igel explained her inspiration for the bold color choices and styles, saying, “This season I was inspired by the “BritPop” music scene of the early 90s where bands such as Oasis, Blur, Suede, and later on The Spice Girls, developed a unique British reaction to the various musical and cultural trends of the period in the United States at that time.” Check out more of Boy Meets Girl’s casual-cool apparel on the brand’s official site!

OPI & New York Fashion Week 2013

Front and center this Mercedes Benz Fashion Week OPI nail lacquers graced the fingertips of many of the runway models at Lincoln Center.

First up was OPI ‘Black Onyx’ seen at BCBGMAXAZRIA topped off with a coat of OPI Matte Nail Envy which gave the look a slightly matte finish with a little bit of gloss.  The dark nails neatly complimented the trending black, white and blue shades, bold prints and furs that the designer featured in their Fall/Winter 2013 collection.  Warm nude polish shades were seen at Candela’s show in colors like ‘Don’t Pretzel My Buttons’.  The romantic look was created by designer Gabriela Perezutti.  The Katherine Polk for Houghton show revealed models oval-shaped tips painted in ‘Samoan Sand’ that were topped off with an elegant lace that equaled a real one-of-a-kind manicure.  Not to be outdone Jenni Kayne’s Fall/Winter showcased models with OPI ‘MonSooner or Later’.  A real bold pop of coral red color the polish looked fantastic when mixed with the designer’s gold, nude, dark camel and emerald colors and similarly brightly painted lips.

OPI nail polish can be purchased at Professional Salons, including Dillard’s, JCPenney, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, and ULTA.

Dark Eyes & Bold Lips Backstage at Jonathan Saunders

One of the few beauty “rules” I’ve always avoided breaking is the idea of always balancing a bold eye with a softer lip, and vice versa. After all, a dark lip paired with a dark eye can verge on overkill, right? That’s what I always thought, until I saw Jonathan Saunders’ runway models make “overkill” look like something I actually wanted more of! Makeup artist Lucia Pieroni went for a chic seventies vibe that happened to come across gorgeously modern with its “undone” smoky eye and on-trend burgundy lips. The effect was sexy, sophisticated, and powerful – not a bit clownish or overdone – and you can cop the look yourself with the right easy-to-find products. While Pieroni used a touch of grease to get that perfectly messy smoked-out eye, you can create a wearable interpretation with NARS Cream Eyeshadow in Zardoz, which will give that glossy effect without the sticky feeling (yuck!). As for lips, try Rouge d’Armani #609, a deep burgundy shade that has a hint of shine but won’t smudge. And to give your bold lips and eyes some of that much-needed balance, keep your complexion soft and dewy with a light-reflective highlighter like MAC Cream Colour Base in Hush!

Cheryl Shops NYFW: Erin Fetherston Fall 2012

When & where: Saturday, February 11, 6-7 p.m., Milk Studios
Presentation recap: Though the venue logistics added some serious delays (15 people at a time could ride the elevator to enter the presentation space), once guests arrived in the showroom we were greeted by a live harpist who immediately erased any memory of this from our minds. The ethereal music combined with gilded tree trunks topped with forlorn-looking, dark-eyed models was a magical formula (add to this custom cocktails named after the designer). The dresses were absolutely lovely; a good percentage were floor-length gowns, and there was no shortage of chiffon, gold, sequins, and wispy patterns.

Bonus points: I’m not sure whether the “cosmic feather” pattern on some of the dresses is Fetherston’s play on her name, but if it is I’m tickled.

Where to buy: Visit the official site to purchase.

Soothe Fashion Week Heel-Worn Feet With Muscle Remedy by H. Gillerman Organics

We are in the middle of Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week, and attention all shoe addicts! Unless you’re a nonfiction version of Carrie Bradshaw, chances are your legs and feet aren’t immune to wearing heels running around Lincoln Center and to fashion shows all around town. After all, beauty is pain, and whether you’re a girl who practically lives in heels or just grins and bears it for the occasional dressy night out, you’ve likely experienced your share of shoe-induced discomfort. But that doesn’t mean you should sit there and take it! Let’s face it – your feet deserve a little pampering time, so introduce yourself to H. Gillerman Organics Muscle Remedy. The brand’s roll-on formula infuses a natural blend of olive oil, lavender, sage, spearmint, and vitamin E to relax muscles in your legs and feet, soothing tension and reducing pain. Plus, its refreshingly spicy scent doesn’t hurt either while you unwind after a long day on the go! Of course, it would be extra nice to have your own personal Mr. Big to massage your feet while you test out the relaxation properties of this handy little must-have product, but hey – a girl can’t be too greedy!

In These Shoes: Miz Mooz Othello Boots

Come on, you don’t think this 60-degree weather is going to last, do you? Yes, it has been a mild winter thus far, but I would truly be shocked if we don’t get hit with some frigid temperatures soon. There always seems to be a blizzard during Fashion Week, which starts next Thursday, by the way. And speaking of Fashion Week, the paparazzi would likely go crazy over these Miz Mooz Othello boots. They’re big and furry and outré, but they’re also practical—the faux fur will keep your legs warm, there’s a rubber sole, and the wedge heel is a manageable 2-3/4 inches (that’s 3.5 inches minus a 3/4-inch platform). Plus the bow tones down the shape and gives them a chic bit of definition. To make them totally street-style-blog worthy, I recommend wearing with a furry hat and coat, plus a supershort skirt and an It Bag (both Fashion Week staples). The fact that they’re just $121 can be your little secret.

Electric Blue Eyeliner Inspired By Anna Sui Fall 2012 RTW!

  • posted February 1st, 2012

For Anna Sui’s Fall 2012 RTW runway show, makeup artist Pat McGrath needed to make sure that the models’ makeup stood a chance at standing out against the wardrobe’s elaborate fabrics without completely stealing the spotlight. Her key to success was a technicolor version of a dramatic cat-eye, using eye-popping electric blue for a modernized 60s vibe. If you’ve been waiting for an excuse to try out electric pops of color in your own makeup, but have been too chicken thus far, now’s your chance! For someone who’s just starting to play with untraditional shades, try NYX Slim Eye Pencil in electric blue for maximum control and a more muted take on the shade. If you’re already plenty skilled with liquid liner, I recommend Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liner in Radium for high color pay-off that won’t stray. Stila Smudge Pot is a personal favorite of mine when it comes to cream eyeliner – lucky us, it also comes in electric blue! And don’t forget the possibility of using eye shadow as liner; with a wet liner brush, MAC’s shadow in Blue Candy would make the perfect electric pop!
