Elevate Your Casual Summer Sandal Style with a Pair of Flip-Flop Wedges

I’ve had my share of days when I really just need to get up, throw on some clothes, and slip on a pair of shoes and go – whether I’m running tragically late or just simply can’t be bothered to put in the extra effort of tying laces or buckling buckles before heading out the door. But throw-on-and-go functionality doesn’t necessarily have to make you look like you dressed with lightning speed (in the dark, no less). Flip-flop wedges combine the easy slip-on wearability and versatility with a little extra height that helps elevate your day-to-day summer look – both literally and figuratively – so you can get ready in a flash without sacrificing on style. Stripe-y nautical-inspired sandals like these J. Crew wedges or these Ralph Lauren Jae thong wedges have “summer” written all over them, and look effortlessly casual-cute paired with skinny jeans or distressed cut-off shorts. Elongate your legs with minimal effort thanks to these nude-hued Tory Burch wedges, or opt for these goes-with-anything Romy cork platforms from Sam Edelman. What are your favorite go-to casual summer sandals? Let us know in the comments!

Flip Flopping with Pucci

How fun and irresistible are Pucci’s rubber flip flops in the iconic Pucci print! If you remember Pucci from years ago the big color combos were aqua and blue, pink and yellow and purple and green. These flip flops (much cooler than the Chanel flip flops we had to have two years ago) are fabulous for the beach or lunching in white jeans or The Row’s Macktan cropped mid-rise skinny jeans in ice blue.Yes, they are pricey for flip flops. I live in flip flops all summer long…so for me it’s worth the investment for a really cute and stylish pair. You don’t see the Pucci print on the flip flops until you kick your flip flops off. Make sure you place them “just perfectly” in the sand if you want everyone to see the stylish print! Click the link to indulge and be sure to check out the entire Pucci and Row Collections. Paint your toe nails with bright blue or turquoise nail polish. We know you’ll have the most fashionable feet on the beach!

Flex Your Fashion Design Prowess & Make Your Own Havaianas!

When summer hits in all its sunny, sweaty glory, one thing becomes quite apparent: you can never have too many pairs of flip-flops. Whether you’re kicking it at the beach, need something to take you from a pedicure to the pool, or just want a low-maintenance pair of sandals to slip on at a moment’s notice, it doesn’t get much easier than rubber thong sandals. And if there’s anything better than a pair of flip-flops that manage to be comfortable, stylish, and sophisticated at the same time (let’s face it – some rubber flip-flops just look sloppy), it’s a fully customizable pair of flip-flops! Havaianas, a favorite brand of fashionistas everywhere, are undeniably comfortable, versatile, and of course, popular — but it’s not uncommon to run into several stylish ladies rockin’ the exact same pair on a regular basis. Stand out in the crowd and put your designing skills to the test by creating your own personal pair on the brand-new MYOH (Make Your Own Havaianas) feature on the brand’s official site! Choose colors, patterns, strap style, and even embellishments like pins, charms, and crystals. Sure, they’re significantly more expensive than those janky free flip-flops at the nail salon, but it’s a small price to pay for a product of your own fashion creation!

Slip On a Pair of Ultra-Stylish Designer Flip-Flops

For those of us with the hard-to-please combination of finicky fashion taste and a hectic busy schedule, it can be difficult to find the perfect summer shoe that maintains a sense of upscale style while still allowing you to get up and go at a moment’s notice. Luckily for us label-loving ladies (who still happen to have a low-maintenance side), many of our favorite designers have created a slew of stunning flip-flops perfect for sun-basking, pool-lounging, and of course, last-minute errand-running when we want something we can slip on quickly without looking sloppy! Opt for something practical that goes with everything, but still lets you show off a little character like these Marc by Marc Jacobs flip-flops or the ever-popular Tory Burch Thora Sandals, which come in a multitude of colors and textures to suit your own personal style. Opt for a spring-festive pop of color like these Diane von Furstenberg ‘Lush’ sandals in turquoise or yellow, or stand out with intricate embellishments like these Giuseppe Zanotti Stone Sandals, or the very whimsical Miss Trish Splash ‘Eva’ Flip Flops!

Threadless & Havaianas: A Fab Collab You Won’t Want to Miss!

Havaianas, the fabulous flip-flops (that I have at least three pairs of, btw), has joined forces with Threadless.com, the online community-based t-shirt company, to create a collection of limited edition sandals for summer 2010. The project officially launched in mid-July with six designs from original artwork submitted and voted on by the Threadless community. Using the ever-increasingly popular method of crowdsourcing, Threadless received over 600 design submissions from designers around the world with the winning artists being: Farhan Hassanfrom Singapore, Alvaro Arteaga Sabaini from Chile, Josh Perkins from Arizona,Jess Fink from New York, Ross Zietz from Chicago, and Emmy Cicierega from Massachusetts to form the complete limited edition collection. The way the designs translate from the tees to the body of the flip-flop just looks so artistic and cool – I received a pair of Farhan’s designs, and just love them! Which one is your favorite? You can buy the tee or the flip-flop (or both!): check out all the designs here.

World Cup Soccer Team spirit: Havaianas limited edition flip flops from Barneys NY!

World Cup Soccer fever is about to hit with the first matches starting today, and here in NYC you will start seeing office workers ducking into sports bars to catch glimpses of the games during the work day. Havaianas has jumped on the team spirit bandwagon by releasing a set of limited edition designs featuring some of the competing teams; I’ve featured my faves, from top, England, and Brazil. Nab a sporty pair while you can, since they’ll be on sale until July 11th. Maybe they’d make a great gift for Father’s Day, too! They’re $24.00 each from Barneys New York. Note: these are men’s sizes.

The Dirt On Flip Flops + Stylish Flip Flop Alternatives

Last year, we reported that flip flops can be bad for your feet, now there are reports that they can actually be bad for your health. New studies reveal that thousands of gross and even deadly bacteria may be lurking at this very moment on your favorite flip flops. Ew. If that isn’t enough to make you think twice about slipping on your summer favorites, we don’t know what is.

What to do about it? You can clean your feet and flip flops with alcohol or antibacterial wash at the end of the day and avoid touching your feet or wearing them around your home. Or, you can opt for a summer shoe that offers a bit more coverage and protection from the grimy stuff lurking on city streets. Here are some stylish alternatives to your beloved flip flops and bare sandals:

Surf’s Up – The Ultimate So Cal Flip Flop

rainbowflipflops_

I’m going to be going down to LA to visit some friends, so I was preparing for my trip with a little LA-themed retail therapy. First stop: Rainbows. Now, I lived in LA as a kid and went to college there, too so I can attest to the fact that it has an interesting style dynamic. To a certain extent it’s all about the look – what you’re wearing, how it’s put together, is it bold enough, hip enough, creative enough, but not too creative? The interesting twist is that Angelinos LOVE their flip flops.

But not just any flip flops. No, you’ve gotta have Rainbow flip flops. They’re the quintissential beach sandal, the ultimate accessory and they’re supposed to last forever which would justify their price tag. I’ve known about them since college when friends raved and RAVED about them, but had yet to try them, so I figured this would be my forray into the LA flip flop culture.
