Lumberjack Chic

  • posted January 18th, 2010

Forever 21 is starting to show some new looks for 2010, and one of the trends they really seem to be picking up on is this casual men’s lumberjack look, but for women.  Plaid and flannel may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but they way it gets dressed up in this rendition, you could just about tolerate it, and I think that some of the items on offer are downright cute!

Take this Hailey pintucked woven shirt from Forever 21, for example – it’s comfortable and loose, but it’s also got that tailored look, and there’s no way anyone could accuse you of looking masculine in something like this.  Put this together with some skinny jeans and flats, and there you go, instant cute casual outfit for the early months of 2010.  Layer a fitted tank underneath for even more versatility, and you’ll be able to wear a piece like this well into the spring.

All-out red holiday dress

With everyone into gold and metallic colors for dresses this season, now is the time when you can get yourself a red dress and not have to worry about clashing with everyone else’s red dress.  Forever 21 comes to the rescue yet again in the holiday dress department, and this classic meets modern meets cutesy dress design is just too much to pass up, especially given the ridiculously great price.  Obviously a cut like this doesn’t offer much in the warmth department, but what party dress does?  Dig out your long black coat for the ride to the party.

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t all that crazy about the roses at the hem, but I found they were very easily removed, and didn’t leave a visible mark, so that.  It’s not that I didn’t like the roses themselves, but more that I wanted the bow to be the center of attention, and I felt the busy hem drew the eye away too much.  Your mileage may vary!

Haute Deal: Badgley Mischka-Style Sequin Pumps For Under $25

Haute Deal: Badgley Mischka-Style Sequin Pumps For Under $25!It’s no news that the trend this season is to drench just about anything in sequins: blazers, cardigans, tanks, etc. And as a girl who is instantly drawn to anything with a little sparkle (like a kitten to catnip), I’m all about the emergence of bedazzled pumps, just in time for holiday cocktail parties and New Years’ Eve — the ultimate excuse to bling yourself out like a human disco ball. However, fancified heels usually come with an super-showy price tag to match, like these lust-worthy Badgley Mischka Hart Pumps ($190) that would most likely have me dropping the shoe back on the rack like a hot coal. Lucky for us bargain hunters, however, good ol’ Forever 21 has a nearly identical pair (can you tell which is which?!) for a mere $22.80! Considering a sturdy pair of sequin pumps probably aren’t what you’d consider an everyday wardrobe staple, I think it would be safe to opt for the style steal in this case. But if you’ve got the extra $167.20 and really feel the urge to spend it for the sake of the designer name (okay, and the extra sequins on the heel), it’s up to you!

Affordable Tribal Prints from Forever 21

forever-21-tunics
I’ve written before about the resurgence of tribal prints and they’re showing up everywhere! My favorite way to take advantage of this look is by throwing on a funky tunic, inspired by all kinds of different exotic prints and patterns. Black and white looks are big, but if you want a little more color, you’ll be happy to find a vast selection that seems to conjure up the African plains or traditional tribal garb.

I’m not sure if this is a good sign or bad sign but because of the proliferation of these prints, you can find them for pretty inexpensively and the below options are from Forever 21 and all under $25. I love the short-sleeved blue and red option – I love the geometric patterns infused with the tribal look.

Forever 21 Pick of the Day: H81 Adria Linen Shorts, $20

[Julia is wearing the H81 Adria Linen Shorts, a top of her own design, and Mossimo pumps]

By July, I came to the sad conclusion that jean cut-offs show my gams no mercy, and I’m better off wearing a more flattering jean short fit. Luckily, I discovered the H81 Adria Linen Short, $19.90, a linen and cotton blend with a removable matching belt that has a tiny bit of flare in order to not hug my leg, and slit back pockets to compliment, instead of surpress, my derriere. I’ve tried dressing the shorts up, which works wonderfully (seen in the pic), and making them more casual with a solid beater or worn tee and canvas sneakers looks absolutely adorable. The shorts tend to retain their shape and can be worn about three times before needing to be washed, and definitely can be packed away and pulled out again next summer.

Fashion with a twist

forever21_twist_tank_tops
Who doesn’t love a little extra embellishment on an otherwise basic top? Spicing up a t-shirt or tank with a creative twist, can elevate it from “eh” to awesome. That’s why I love these tanks from Forever 21. These summery tanks are variations in different styles and colors all with a twist!

Whether placed in the front, integrated into a halter, or defining an empire waist, these  extra  little touches are something that will catch anyone’s eye. I love to keep my wardrobe stocked with pieces like these as they provide an easy solution to the “what to wear” dilemma.

I think my favorite is the pink one (Fab Twist Pink Pleat Trim Top for $9.50!), as it has an interesting touch – a bit of a bib collar – complimented by a unique set of twists!
