Hampton Sun Privet Bloom Line

When I met the founder of the luxury sun care company, Hampton Sun, Salvatore Piazzolla, during NY Fashion week, he mentioned a new scent that he had that he wanted me to try out. I remember him saying that it was a “perfect recreation of a Hampton summer day”.Wow, I thought. That must be nice!

Well, Salvatore could not have been more accurate in how amazing the Privet Bloom scent is, and as I also found out, how fantastic the accompanying body products are.

Privet Bloom is a delightfully white floral scent that immediately took me to drier, crisp, fresh green notes. Think grass, cut branches, fresh blooms on trees… There’s also a dash of salty air notes with reminded me of the beach very accurately (nice touch!). It was so fresh and pretty I think that even though this is perfect for spring/summer, I will definitely wear this year round when I just want to be refreshed, or feel like I’m in a warm weather destination.

This is perfect for after working out, and at end of the day to freshen up before dinner. The way the grassy notes and floral notes meld together is really wonderful. Even if you are not a floral fan, I think the crispness of the grassy/green notes will balance it out for you. The dry down is soft and floral but with a dash of warmth from the musk notes.

The lasting power was fantastic and I loved layering the other two equally amazing products – the shower gel, which was a note-for note copy of the perfume, lathered nicely and was very moisturizing as well. Adding the lotion was that extra special touch I loved. The lotion was hydrating without being greasy and absorbed quickly, and just made the scent last all day on me. – RLB

Sarah Jessica Parker’s to Release SATC Fragrance

SJP’s “Party in a Bottle”

Sarah Jessica Parker is releasing a “party in abottle,” according to sources, and we’re going to get a sniff of this Sex and the City scent soon. SJP NYC sounds interesting, and if you’re a fan of any of Sarah Jessica Parker’s other famous scents, this one might be of interest to you, too.

The scent, according to WWD, is going to be a fruity floral mix. Called a “party in a bottle” (coolest description ever!), SJP NYC was inspired by Carrie Bradshaw and tries to serve up the kind of emotions we feel when we watch her strut the streets of New York City. Considering the success of SJP’s other scents, Covet and Lovely, we’re looking forward to seeing how this one does.

“A large part of the inspiration was what I now understand to be people’s impressions of seeing Carrie Bradshaw walk down the street and what feelings that evokes for her and for them — a real sense of freedom and possibilities, a love for the city around her and, of course, fashion,” Sarah Jessica told the press.

Do you think you’d pick up SJP NYC, or is it way too gimmicky for you? I am intrigued, but I have a rule about my perfume collection–no celebrities allowed, and no cute characters, either!

Impulse Buy of the Week – Marc Jacobs Lola Perfume

If you are looking for the essence of “Flirty” and “Fun” in a fragrance, then look no further than Marc Jacobs’ Lola.
I LOVE the bottle shape and design, (but I realize that this is another one of those LOVE or HATE perfume bottles). I think it really captures what the fragrance is all about, and is very unique. So if you love fragrance bottles, this is one that you will love displaying on your dresser.

Lola is a sweet, floral fragrance, and as such, it will only appeal to those of you who generally like this/are looking for this. That said, the sweet notes, like the pear, were very prominent, but not overwhelming on me. I also liked the bits of citrus from the pink grapefruit that I picked up, combined with the sweeter notes. The pink peppercorn gave it a nice “kick”, as well as a nice balance between the fruity and the floral notes. Soon the florals, from the peony and geranium, in particular, began to take shape on my skin, and this is what made it fun for me.

The dry down was especially plesant, with a very nice “creamy” feel. I got some vanilla, musk and spice, which lasted well into the night on me. I think this is perfect for a date night, night out on the town, day of shopping on a tropical holiday vacation – it’s really very versatile for the right girl! – RLB

Fragrance Notes:
Top notes: pink peppercorn, ruby red grapefruit, pear d’anjou
Middle notes: fuchsia peony, rose, geranium
Bottom notes: vanilla, tonka bean, creamy musk

First Her Stylist-Fueled Newsletter, Now This

Rachel Zoe: the brand! The well-known stylist is planning a major lifestyle overhaul in the way of products, accessory lines, and skin-care products, plus perfume. Is she going too far, or would you trust one of the most famous stylists around to mix you up a fragrance?

Rachel Zoe, known for working with celebs like Nicole Richie and Lindsay Lohan, told USA Today that she wants to “give people a lifestyle.”

“I don’t want to (just) give them great jewelry or a great vest,” Zoe says. “Candles, bedding, pillows, books, whatever it is. I want to do everything. But I won’t let go of styling, either,” she said.

After the lifestyle plan is well under way, Rachel will be working on a unnamed fragrance and skin line, USA Today reports. I wonder if she’ll be doing a “fruity” perfume (bananas…)?

One thing is certain: the skin care stuff is going to be a hard sell.

Kim Kardashian Pairs Up with Lighthouse Beauty

Kim Kardashian disclosed her plans for a fragrance in July, and we saw her on Keeping Up with the Kardashians sniffing away at the Givaudan Lab in New York earlier this year. Her perfume release is nigh, because she has now paired up with Lighthouse Beauty to release her scent. Get ready to smell like Kim!

Lighthouse Beauty also paired up with 50 Cent to developed his soon-to-be-released men’s scent. Here’s what Kim had to say about the recent partnership between her and Lighthouse:

“What’s so different about their approach is that they have worked closely with me on all aspects of my fragrance, the bottle, the juice, and even our distribution strategy so I can develop a product that truly represents me and speaks to my fans. Because of their commitment to including me in the process, the fragrance really captures who I am.”

Let the fans be the judge of that! After all, who really is Kim Kardashian? Besides a reality show star, the other answers are a little bit on the scary side. If Khloe, Kim’s perpetually jealous sister, were around, she’d probably be asking how someone can smell like a famewh*re (clip no. 1, anyone?).

Benefit is one of my go-to beauty companies that holds some of my favorite beauty must-haves. Benefit Cosmetics has now launched a trio fragrance collection called Crescent Row and I’m so excited to tell you about these wonderful fragrances.

The concept of Crescent Row was inspired by Benefit Cosmetics founders visit to Bath, England where they stumbled upon the Royal Crescent, a residential road of 30 homes laid out on a crescent. How neat!!  To learn more about the concept behind Crescent Row, Amber from Beauty Blogging Junkie has done an official blog exclusive on the Benefit’s Crescent Row fragrances.

Crescent Row fragrance features three types, each with its own appealing scent!

Impulse Buy of the Week – Acqua Di Parma, Magnolia Nobile

Acqua di Parma_Magnolia Nobile

I first fell in love with the original Acqua di Parma years ago at Bigelow’s in NYC. I loved the crisp, brisk, Unisex citrus/woody scent and the strong, commanding bottle.

Now, for the first time in 5 years, they have launched a new Eau de Toilette, part of their Acqua Di Parma line, called Magnolia Nobile, a sophisticated floral woody scent. This time the scent is an ode to the Magnolia flower.

Magnolia Nobile is sophisticated, rich, and bold – but not overwhelming. This is, in my opinion, one of the best scents in the line.

Jessica Simpson’s “Fancy Love” Fragrance Released at Bad Time

jessica-simpson-300x400

After Fancy, Jessica Simpson’s Missing the Love

I really feel for Jessica Simpson. She’s famous for being slightly dim, having body issues (remember the mom jeans?), and being unlucky in love. However, her scent “Fancy” did really well this year, and I’m hoping that she pulls it off again, for her sake. After all, it is called “Fancy Love.”

Vince Camuto, CEO and founder of the Camuto Group, said that “Jessica loves the feeling of being in love, She’s a romantic girl. The fragrance was inspired by love. And she’s inspired by love.” We’re just hoping that the fragrance wasn’t dreamed up in a “Tony-Romo-I-Love-You” swoon sesh, because if it were, Jessica Simpson’s probably ticked about the untimeliness of the release.

I suppose the almost $50 million in retail sales for Fancy means that Fancy Love will do quite well, and that amount of green should assuage the pain of a broken heart. If not, there’s always the gym again!

Kiehl’s Portable Essence Oils

In high school, I spent most of my time in the ladies room, squatting on toilets, exhaling smoke out of a tiny window. Usually, there were a couple of us per stall and on occasion we would be smoking something other than cigarettes. On one of these occasions, we were caught by a teacher during bathroom patrol.

As we waited outside of the principal’s office, I took the opportunity to spray half a bottle of Obsession by Calvin Klein all over myself. I was still stoned and therefore unable to smell, see or hear properly. We were called into the principal’s office, seated in a semicircle and awaiting our sentencing. It was at that moment when I noticed a partially full dime bag sitting on the carpeting of the principal’s floor. I surmised that it must have fallen out of my pocket. Luckily, the principals olfactory senses were so distracted by my intense perfume, he didn’t notice and rather questioned us about the strong odor in the room. “Why,” I replied, while dragging the bag towards me with the heel of my shoe, “it’s Obsession, by Calvin Klein.” If you would like to distract others from criminal behavior or a less than becoming personality trait, you can still achieve maximum results with a more subtle and modern approach. Kiehl’s Portable Essence Oils in Amber, Gardenia, Chinese Flowers, Cucumber, Pear and Pour Homme are delicious, compact and perfect for those times when you need a little olfactory assistance.

How to Create Naturally Scented Floral Waters and Colognes

floral1

Creating your own lightly scented waters and colognes is as easy as picking your favorite flower. Scented waters are some of the oldest toiletries created to stimulate, please and entertain our sense of smell. Ancient Egyptians used scented oils to perfume their bodies and lift their spirits. In the 10th century, the practice of oil distillation was perfected and the perfume industry took shape. Scented oils are simple to create. You can distill your scent, capturing the essential oils from fresh flower petals on your stovetop. Or you can mix your favorite essential oils with water to create a light and delicate scent. Use these scented products alone as a perfume or as an addition to your favorite bath or beauty recipe. Fresh rosewater makes a wonderful addition to a favorite cream and lavender water can be splashed all over your body after bathing to relax your spirit and refresh your body. Always use fresh, organic blooms when making scented waters and colognes. Your flowers should be free of pesticides and chemicals. If you do not have any flowers in your garden, check with a local grower. Pick your flowers in the morning, about two to three hours after sunrise for best results. Blossoms that have been in the hot afternoon sun may not be as fragrant. Use only fresh petals and remove all leaves and stems. Wash your petals gently right before using. Here are a few simple recipes and techniques to get you started. Enjoy!

Tip: How to Use Floral Waters – Rosewater and lavender water are wonderful facial toners. – Pour scented water into your bath as you fill the tub; you also can sprinkle a few fresh flower petals into your bath. – Mix up a light cleanser for sensitive skin using 1/2 cup scented water, 1/4 cup whole milk and 2 tablespoons baking soda. Massage the cleanser into damp skin and rinse well. Store any leftover cleanser in your refrigerator. – For a lighter summer lotion, stir a tablespoon or two of scented water into your favorite cream or lotion. – Spray scented water or cologne onto your bed sheets for sweet dreams. – Mist your hair with scented water before going out.
