Supermodel Sasha Pivovarova Lends Her Sketching Talents to GAP Body!

Beauty, style, an eye for art — some girls just have all the talent, don’t they? But it’s hard to hate Russian supermodel Sasha Pivovarova when her most recently-tapped talent translates to super-cute skivvies for us shoppers! Best known for her piercing looks and frequent appearances on designer runways far and wide, the supermodel also happens to be quite the sketcher and spends much of her backstage and off-the-runway time channeling her inner Picasso. Now her extraordinary side hobby, along with her fashion know-how, has inspired her own capsule collection for GAP Body. The collection, which has just begun rolling out pieces in stores and online, includes satin bralettes, “girl shorts,” and more modest lingerie pieces like camis, and all feature Sasha’s hand-drawn sketches. Aside from being cute, quirky, and unique, these pieces are also a bargain, with undergarments starting at just $19.95! If you aren’t a sucker for affordable designer collabos yourself, they also make the perfect gift for the girl who loves cozy and cute lingerie! If you like what you see so far, be sure to watch out for more pieces that will be gradually released through the new year!

Trim The Tree With Festive Beauty Ornaments!

‘Tis the season to spread holiday cheer… and for a bona-fide beauty addict, what could possibly be more cheerful than ornaments filled with beauty goodies?! This season’s most gorgeous makeup and beauty gifts come packaged in a super-adorable fashion – nested right inside ornament capsules, or adorned with ribbon – so you deck the halls and trim the tree with darling beauty gifts, for you and your fellow makeup mavens! Of course, these will hardly be keepsake decorations that you can pass along for generations to come, but it is a pretty sweet idea if you’re still looking for the perfect gifts for the beauty junkies on your list! Some of my favorites are the MAC Dazzlespheres, which encase some of the brand’s best-selling seasonal items like Dazzleglass and Cremesheen Lipglasses, shimmery pigments, or limited edition nail lacquers. And for the skincare-obsessed ladies on your list, look no further than Philosophy’s sweet ornament gifts, which house some of the brand’s must-haves like Purity One-Step Facial Cleanser and Hope in a Jar!

Per-fekt Beauty’s Holiday Set, For The No-Nonsense Gal Who Does it All!

  • posted December 21st, 2011
  • Beauty

Just because a girl isn’t a total makeup junkie doesn’t mean she doesn’t appreciate the gift of beautifying. In fact, a busy girl on the go who doesn’t normally have the time to focus on her beauty routine may really appreciate you having her back by introducing her to some quality, no-nonsense beauty must-haves that she wouldn’t necessarily scout out on her own, that will give her that polished look on the outside to match her detail-oriented persona. If this sounds like someone on your list that you still have to shop for, look no further than Per-fekt’s Eye Do It All Holiday Duo. The high-end beauty brand has created a gift set featuring a partnership of their two fan-favorite product essentials – Brow Perfection Gel and Eye Perfection Gel – designed for the gal on the go who isn’t fussy but still appreciates the need to look her best. The clear brow gel tames and conditions unruly brows for a polished look that blends with everyone’s brow tone, while the brightening eye gel conceals dark circles and imperfections for a bright-eyed appearance all day long, no matter how many meetings you’ve powered through!

Warm Up to a Good Cause with Scarlett Johansson’s Neff Beanies

  • posted December 9th, 2011

Scarlett Johansson is probably most known for her girl-next-door appeal, even in her most glamorous moments on the red carpet. She’s the celebrity you want to hate (because your boyfriend has this huge crush on her) but you just can’t, because she just seems so darn… real. Ugh! And if you thought it was hard enough to hate her as it is, she’s now putting her celebrity platform to good use with a collaboration with Neff Headwear to fight cancer in the name of cold-weather wear. Scarlett has teamed up with the sporty brand to create two specially designed beanies, available only at Zappos, with a fraction of the proceeds going to City of Hope – one of the leading cancer research and treatment centers. These cotton beanies are not only just about the coziest stocking stuffer you can hand out this year, but they truly are the gift that keeps giving – up to 5,000 purchased beanies are matched with a beanie donation to City of Hope’s cancer survivors, while every purchase after that earns City of Hope a 10% donation. Hats off to that, Scar-Jo!

Sugar Plum Lips with Yves Saint Laurent’s Golden Gloss Trio!

  • posted December 2nd, 2011

Don’t get me wrong, I love Yves Saint Laurent’s non-traditional color choice for their holiday lip gloss set, but… it really wasn’t what I was expecting! The latest Golden Gloss Holiday Trio features three pleasant purple shades (Numbers 2, 10, and 19, to be exact!) – ranging from lavender to deep grape – and while they certainly aren’t colors that I’ve ever decked the halls with, they’re all pretty fabulous! Not only are the shades fresh and unexpected, but they’re also infused with real 24K gold flakes, along with nourishing oils, so they glossify lips with some seriously luxe shimmer, shine, and moisture! And considering it’s a $90 value for only $59, it’s a killer steal, whether you’re shopping for yourself or a friend. So if you’ve got a lip gloss addict on your holiday shopping list – or just know a gal who really loves purple – this is the perfect holiday gift set to set to share some gorgeousness and cheer!

Bath & Body Works’ Mini Scent Stackers For Summer Spritzing!

I’ll admit it — up until this weekend, I hadn’t been inside a Bath & Body Works since junior high when I first started experimenting with buying my own makeup. And by “makeup,” I mean cotton candy flavored lip gloss. Maybe it was the fact that I had graduated to more inclusive beauty stores like Sephora and Ulta, or maybe it was just the fact that stepping inside Bath & Body Works always seemed to give me an instant headache with all the mixed and mingled scents happening at the same time. Either way, I’m glad I wandered in recently after all these years, because otherwise I wouldn’t have discovered the adorably portable Scent Stackers mini fragrances! Designed to mix, match, and stack (but not wear together!), these mini versions of the brand’s top scents not only smell light and pretty — perfect for summer — but they’re also ridiculously convenient for throwing in your beach tote, messenger bag, or gym satchel for touch-ups throughout the day! Gift them for summer birthdays or cute hostess gifts, or start your own mini collection and stack ‘em up on your dresser at home!

Make Mother’s Day Extra Fabulous with Alexis Bittar ‘Flora’ Jewelry

Traditionally lucite hasn’t had the best reputation in the world of fashion. What usually comes to mind is ridiculously high platform heels — maybe hollowed out with a gold fish inside. Let’s just say that lucite  is about as classy as multiple one-dollar bills, and it’s certainly nothing you’d ever see your mother wear! But then Alexis Bittar came onto the jewelry scene. Known for his line of handcrafted Lucite baubles, with the help of a little imagination and some sparkle in the form of dazzling Swarovski crystals, Alexis Bittar has a knack for transforming the stereotypically tacky textile into something gorgeously elegant and feminine. In honor of spring, May flowers, and most importantly, Mother’s Day, I’m falling in love with the line’s Flora collection — a series of delicate floral jewelry pieces, from daisy petal necklaces to pink primrose pins. Sure, these beautiful little trinkets may be a little out of your gift-giving budget, but hey — Mom deserves to be spoiled on her special day, right?

Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas for Her

  • posted February 11th, 2011

Valentine’s Day is next Monday!  Could your boyfriend/husband be stumped on what to get the most fabulous, most gorgeous, most wonderful woman in his life?  Maybe your man’s got a plan, but if he doesn’t here’s some uber-fab gift ideas to ensure he doesn’t wind up in the doghouse this Valentine’s Day!

WGACA Vintage Vintage Chanel '93 CC Heart Necklace

If he’s already in the doghouse, or really wants to splurge on you this Valentine’s Day; nothing says love like a Vintage Vintage Chanel ’93 CC Heart Necklace.  I Love, Love, Love it!

Don’t forget those soon-to-be new moms this Valentine’s Day!  They need love too…and chocolate!  How cute is this gift of Luxury Chocolates from Vosges Haut-Chocolat?  It includes a cravings kit with flavors selected based on known pregnancy cravings, plus a style book to help a mom-to-be look her best while feeling, what could be, her worst.

Felix Rey I Heart You Clutch

I “love” this cute and sparkly mesh polka-dot, heart accented Felix Rey I Heart You Clutch. It’s just so unique, yet the colors are neutral so you can wear it with practically anything.

One Dozen Lavender Roses
Sure, every girl gets roses at one point or another for Valentine’s Day, but how many times can you say you’ve received one dozen lavender roses?  Since shades of violet and purple are my favorite colors, this would be a beautiful and unexpected bouquet to find delivered at my door.

Gold Heart Cluster Earrings
I’m not really into heart-shaped jewelry, but I’d wear theseGold Heart Cluster Earrings.   Not only are they Valentine’s Day festive, but they aren’t so overtly obvious that they are hearts, it makes them more versatile.  They have an almost filigree look to them, like the many oversized earrings you might see these days, but with a twist. Plus they’re only $60 –  a perfect price if you both don’t want to spend too much, or if he wants to make it part of a larger gift (I’m not going to argue with that, are you?  There’s a matching bracelet as well!  :) )

Hope you get what your heart desires this Valentine’s Day!

Beauty Stocking Stuffers For $10 Or Less!

When it comes to completing the perfect gift, or perhaps when trying to meet a very precise gifting budget (like with my friends’ ridiculously organized Secret Santa gift exchange), it can be tough finding that one last little something to top it all off. After all, you don’t want to go too overboard with your spending, and you certainly don’t want to gift something totally useless just for the sake of making your gift seem more substantial in size. As a gift-buying expert when it comes to gal pals (trust me — I’ve had my share of Secret Santas!), I find that mini beauty gifts are a great way to go. From mini lip gloss sets to refreshing fragrance trios, they may not be the crucial part of your gift, but think of them more as a little extra beauty treat for some much-deserved post-holiday pampering! These teeny value sets also make great mini hostess gifts or party handouts for a cute, indulgent gift that doesn’t require too much in-depth knowledge about the recipient’s tastes or preferred color palette. After all, who doesn’t love a little extra lip gloss, especially when it comes in such cute packaging?

Eco-Friendly Beauty Gifts For The Green Girl On Your List!

  • posted December 1st, 2010

Even if you’re admittedly not the Earth’s greatest pal (even living in San Francisco, I’m not the best recycler and I’m still having a hard time breaking up with my aerosol hairspray), there’s still time to make up for your not-so-great karma with Mother Nature by the end of the year! Spread the eco-cheer this holiday season with green beauty gifts for your gal-pals — not only will you be shopping with a clear conscience and helping influence others to beautify greenly, but you may just learn that eco-friendly or organic products are just as great (if not better) than the less-eco-conscious versions you currently have stowed in your stash! For example, if you or your pal is already a big fan of Urban Decay, try gifting their Sustainable Shadow Box, which features a set of ten best-selling shadows, complete with an eco-friendly brush, all in a palette made from sustainable materials. If you’re willing to shell out a little more dough for the sake of the earth-friendly cause, upscale green beauty brand Nvey has a gorgeous starter gift set for the girl looking to build out her organic beauty collection! For someone who’s more into skin care than makeup, give them the excuse to pamper with this Organics to Clear Skin kit, which contains a 30-day supply of skin-purifying organic products! And for the perfect stocking stuffer for your eco-chic friend, this Eco Tools Brush Set is a hugely popular, not to mention affordable, green gift!
