Suck it Up with Eureka’s Envirovac

Cue monster truck rally voice!  What has 8 amps of power?  Is sold exclusively at Walmart and costs only $72?  It’s the Envirovac by Eureka!

Here is what I love about this completely affordable and widely available vacuum.  The 8- amp motor (versus the typical energy monster 12-amps) sucks up 99 percent of all household dust, dirt, pet hair and more for less money than some of the other “designer” vacuums.  This upright vacuum not only cleans like a lean, green grime-fighting machine it also reduces CO2 emissions and uses 33 percent less energy.  The allergen-reducing filter is washable too, which saves you from buying and throwing away replacements.

The Envirovac is one mighty machine that has an easy empty dust cup and it comes in three soothing colors as well as one bright and powerful red version.  That big cardboard box that the Enivorvac comes in is also made from 100% recycled materials.  Eureka has really gone the distance in trying to be more eco-friendly.

You can also save more energy and time by changing up your cleaning routine.  Just by clearing the your vacuum’s path of toys, clothes and household items prior to starting the machine you save a little of both.  Remembering to turn off the machine when you do have to move pieces around will also help out the earth and your electric bill.  Save money and energy?  Your wallet and your planet are applauding you already.

Go Green with Eco-Staplers

eco-staplers

More than 640,000 metric tons of staples are produced each year.  Most of them end up in the trash.  Tiny staples might not seem like much of a treat, but they add up!  During the manufacturing process, heavy metals used to make them can end up in the soil and underground water where they are toxic to plants and wild life.

Luckily, there are green options for almost everything these days and staplers are no exception.  Many companies are now making eco-staplers which can bind papers together without the use of staples.  Made by Humans makes some really cute animal shaped ones while PaperPro makes a heavy duty one that will bind up to 20 sheets of paper.

Brown Bag it Green Style with Lunch Boxes

We all know that packing a lunch everyday saves a lot of green (as in dollar bills) but did you know that you can save even more green (as in trees and dollar bills) by ditching the brown bag and using a lunch box?  While that Star Wars or Strawberry Shortcake lunch box you used as a kid was pretty awesome this Mr. Bento Stainless Lunch Jar is much more sophisticated and your co-workers probably won’t tease you.  It’s perfect for packing up last night’s leftovers in just the right portions for lunch.  The insulated lunch jar comes with 4 stackable and microwavable containers, a spork and a carrying bag.  If the lunch jar doesn’t suit your style, there are plenty of other green lunch options to help you keep some green in your pocket.

Go Green with Dryer Balls

dryer-balls

As parents, it’s important to do our part to help preserve the earth for our children and future generations.  There are so many small things we can do without much effort that can add up to a lot over the years.  Something as simple as using dryer balls conserves energy and reduces waste.  Using dryer balls helps speed up the drying process by separating clothing and allowing air to circulate more freely thus using less energy.  Dryer balls also eliminate the need for fabric softener which reduces waste. Think of all those plastic bottles or cardboard boxes used in packaging and shipping these products, not to mention the energy (and chemicals) that go into producing them!

Dryer balls are a small investment for a big return.
