Do You Worry About Your Gym Looks?

I never used to worry about how I looked at the gym–you’re there for a workout, not a fashion show–until my husband, bless his heart, decided to snap some paparazzi-style pics of me as I was leaving Bally’s. Conclusion: I need to look a little more primped before, during, and after my workouts.

While Audrina Patridge has been spending a little too much time in the ol’ booth, she is rather inspiring with her slim physique and put-together gym look. If you are interested in updating your gym bag with fresheners and doo-dads for beauty, here are a few of my new favorite products:

*SmartMouth Mouthwash: This is like a clinical-grade deodorant, but for the mouth–you never knew you needed it until you tried it. I don’t know about you, but I get really phlegm-y when I work out hard, and this is a nice way to freshen when you’re sans toothbrush. Did I mention that it last for 12 hours? Use this for morning workouts!

*Smart Hair Solutions: Does your hair get insane when you work out? I’ve taken to moussing my tresses a tad before bundling my hair up for a run, and it works wonders on those flyaways that end up getting damp and crazy. A poyntail is often worse than a bun, because it will leave a hair ridge and get sweaty. If you dampen your ponytail, twist it around, and secure it, your hair won’t be half as frizzy. Don’t forget to pack extra hair elastics in that gym bag!

*Olay Cleansing Cloths: A huge mistake that we can make when we want to look good after the gym is topping our faces off with heavy foundation. Use a cleansing cloth to thoroughly remove sweat and other “ick,” and then use a cool-air blast on the hairdryer to calm down red cheeks. Concentrate on fixing damp hair and adding lip gloss instead of your rosy glow–it’s all-natural and very healthy.

On the Go? Try a Dry Shampoo.

dry-shampoo

I have fine, limp hair.  When I wake up in the morning it is like an oil slick monster attacked me in the night.  I also have two kids under four who demand a lot of my time.  When I need to get out the door fast but still want to look my best I depend on one major item- dry shampoo.

Dry Shampoos work wonders on my hair for the pre-school drop, in keeping a gorgeous blow out or when I am heading to the gym but can’t bare to shower before my workout too.  I’ve tried the gamut of dry shampoos.  From powders to sprays, colored and not colored, dry shampoos are one of the best products I have in my beauty arsenal.

Here are my top three picks-

1. Pssst! is an oldie but goodie.  It’s economical, available online at drugstore.com and at your local drugstores too.  It sprays on easily and comes in a white, blonde and brunette formula.  I love how it combs through my hair while it lifts the roots and refreshes my overall look and style.

2.  Bumble & Bumble is on the pricey side being a salon brand and it comes in a variety of colors including brown, red, black and blond.  It is a fine powder spray with a nice perfume scent that others often lack.  It adds volume and won’t clump your hair.

3. All Nighter Styling Powder- Harder to find but available online this shakeable powder  comes in various colors too.  It is long lasting and blends well while soaking up oil for hours on end.

When you are a woman on the go like me, you need a dry shampoo as a go-to beauty product.

Pretty Summer Solutions for Long Hair

summer_hair_accessories
If you have extremely long hair like I do, summer can present quite a dilemma.  Having all that hair on your neck in the sticky heat can be oppressive. So I’m always looking for the perfect summer hair solution – ways to get my hair off my face and neck that aren’t boring or frumpy. Please no scrunchies or ‘claw’ clips!

Yes, there is the basic ponytail and headbands like this Eugenia Kim knotted  “Portia” style from Barneys are a great solution as well. I also found these sweet bejeweled hairclips at Banana Republic, a pretty way to keep the hair off my face during the warm weather wedding season. The Juicy Couture ponytail holders are fun and colorful are embellished with dangling charms that Juicy fans will love.

Get Jennifer Aniston’s Loose Curls

This Hair Star Always Rocks Her Locks

Looking for Jennifer Aniston’s loose red carpet curls? We don’t blame you, because we are, too! Even though it has taken us over a decade to get over the trauma that was “The Rachel,” there’s no denying that Jennifer’s hair always has covetable glow and volume. Here are some products that you might adore.

Kick off your Jennifer Aniston-inspired hairstyle with some volume-friendly conditioner. Try L’Oreal’s EverPure Volume Conditioner in Rosemary Mint, which happens to be as good for color-treated hair as it is for the earth. Don’t wreck those carefully-crafted golden highlights when you’re preparing your ‘do!

After adding your mousse of choice to damp hair and blow-drying, try spritzing in a little Frederic Fekkai Wave Creating Spray to add summer beachiness, and then get to work with a large-barreled curling iron to add some curls as needed.

To add even more volume, try parting your hair on the opposite side for instant height at the crown. Amazing!
