Get Dazzling Eyes This Season With Tinsel-Colored Liner

Holiday party season is officially here, and if you’re opting to go the subtle route fashion-wise by avoiding ultra-sparkly cocktail dresses and glitter heels at all costs, there’s still plenty of ways to add some celebratory glitz to your seasonal party look! Instead, try focusing the festiveness on your makeup. Metallic silver liner adds just the slightest dash of holiday vixen appeal that makes a surprisingly gorgeous impact. It’s like tinsel for your eyes… which is way less painful than it sounds! Try not to go too 90s-fabulous with the trend (that whole frosty lid look might make you look dated), and instead stick to just the corners of your eye and the inner rim. Similar to how white pencil makes peepers appear wider and brighter, silver liner will make eyes sparkle with a sexy metallic sheen. Also, make sure you pick an easy-glide, extra-bright chrome silver – darker gunmetal shades just won’t have the same tinselly effect!

Be Fabulous in Photos & in Person with Smashbox’s Pretty in Pictures Set

In this Facebook-focused day and age in which one night’s memories are immortalized on the internet within hours, being photogenic has basically become a full-time job! I don’t know about you, but no matter how confident I feel about my party look in front of the mirror, somehow my makeup often doesn’t “translate” to the same fabulousness in photographs. Glaringly powdery foundation, dull eyeshadow, washed-out lips — is that really how I look? And considering the pictures typically last longer than the party does, that’s a major bummer! That’s why I can personally appreciate Smashbox’s new holiday set, Pretty in Pictures, a collection of products – from primer to light-reflective glossy shades – all designed to give you the same gorgeous party look in pictures and in person! And while it’s not the most literal take on a holiday set, that’s part of the appeal – it makes the perfect fun yet practical gift set for a friend who loves her digital camera as much as she loves to glam up, or the perfect way to treat yourself in time for holiday parties!

Amp Up The Drama With The Victoria’s Secret Midnight Glamour Collection

Victoria’s Secret beauty has released countless makeup collections and stellar star collaborations, featuring the design touches of Heidi Klum and Christian Siriano, but no prior limited-edition line has been quite as covetable as the just-for-the-holidays Midnight Glamour Collection! With a series of shimmering shades in dramatic winter-appropriate hues like navy, pewter, and cranberry, the shadows and lip glazes make for perfectly alluring special occasion looks, and the sleek jewel-shaped compacts make the perfect gift for the beauty maven on your list (or yourself!).

The Midnight Glamour Collection features a Deluxe Eye Palette with four coordinating shadows plus a gel liner, a Deluxe Lip Palette with two glosses and two berry-hued lipsticks, a special-edition nail lacquer in a deep midnight shade, a Luminous Highlighting Powder in a sheer-yet-shimmery universally flattering shade, and Hypergloss Eye Shimmer in Night Lights — a pearlescent silver. While I’m partial to the palettes for gift-giving, my inner multi-tasker loves the versatility of the Hypergloss Eye Shimmer — wear it alone for a gorgeous wash of shadow or over darker shades for the ultimate smoky look!

It’s never too late to add a touch of holiday sparkle and shine to your makeup regimen, and I’ve found the new, limited edition holiday palette from Givenchy to  perfectly meet my needs. I tested the latest lipstick, lipgloss, and eye liner in elegant pearl, tender pearl, and pearl shine, and was beyond pleased with the results. I never like to go overboard with the shimmer, and these floaty, light colors are an easy way to add some oomph to your usual color palette. The Gloss Interdit Ultra-Shiny Color Plumping Effect in ‘elegant pearl’ is a color that is out of this world; the silver shade possesses an intense, liquidy-silver shade inside of the bottle, but when applied, blends so well that you look less ’space age chic’ and more ‘runway ready’.  Also worth a mention is the subtle pink shade ‘pearl shine’, found in the Rouge Interdit Shine Lipstick, which is an amazingly easy shade of pink to wear due to its pale hue, but also the packaging of the lipstick is incredible!  It’s most certainly very well-branded, with the ribbon and Givenchy logo hanging below – bravo!

Where to buy:

Gloss Interdit Ultra-Shiny Color Plumping Effect, $24.50 at Sephora in elegant pearl and tender pearl
Rouge Interdit Shine Lipstick, $27, at Sephora in pearl shine
Parad’Eyes Fluid Eye Liner, $27, at Sephora, in elegant and tender pearl.

Perfect holiday lipstick

I have long been a fan of Estée Lauder’s Hydra Lustre lipsticks, and now that they’ve done a limited edition for the holidays, I’m stocking up.  If you haven’t tried Hydra Lustre before, then you’ll probably freak out at the price, as $20 is more than most people would normally want to spend on a single lipstick.  But if you have tried it before, then you know that it’s worth every penny, and with colors like these available, you really can’t go wrong no matter which one you choose.

That said, I’ve seen these lipsticks in person, and… I have to say that the Simply Red shade is miles better than the other shades available – a pure, shimmering red.  It seems to be the most popular choice, as well, as many retailers are now sold out of that shade.  I have it on good authority, though, that most Macy’s locations still have Simply Red in stock, and it appears to be available at their online store, also.  If you’re really against the idea of red lipstick, the gold is also a very nice choice.
