These Floral Faux Leather Jackets Will Unleash Your Inner Biker Babe

By now, you’ve likely stocked up on more than your share of moto jackets in various shades and styles. After all, they’re the easiest way to inject an instant dose of style to almost any look with minimal effort, whether you’re rocking a maxi dress or a casual jean-and-tee combo. Last spring, colorful takes on the faux leather moto had a major moment — from cheery pastels to flattering jewel tones — and this time around, it seems to be all about the florals! Nothing says spring like a good feminine floral print, and I love the way the bad-ass biker babe vibe contrasts with the traditionally feminine print to put a fresh spin on the tried-and-true trend. It’s the perfect example of hard and soft, and naughty meets nice. Check out some of my favorites in the links below!

Happy Umbrella Day – Kid’s Rain Gear

The rainy season has arrived and with it comes the challenge of keeping your kiddos warm and dry. Check out the bellow tips we spotted on Modern Parents Messy Kids to help dress your youngsters for hours of play in the rain.

Credit: Modern Parents Messy Kids

-       Wool Under-layer: Long underwear made from very soft “no itch” merino wool will help your child stay toasty warm. Be sure to use wool, not cotton, as a base layer as wool absorbs water and allows the body to stay warm when wet.

-       Rain Gear: While rain boots are an obvious necessity for the rainy season, don’t forget to also dress your child in rain pants. They repel water fantastically and with adjustable suspenders, waistline and elastic over-boot straps, they will last for years. Keep your little one’s hands dry, too, with some rain gloves.

-       Windfleece Jacket: Sometimes when it rains, the temperature isn’t that cold. That’s when dressing your child in layers is important, so that if the weather warms up, they can strip the layers as needed. A windfleece jacket is a good top layer that is both durable and warm.

-       Wind & Waterproof Shell: Top off your kids rain gear with a high quality shell jacket for one last thin, warm, dry layer.

Update Your Classic Trench with Cool Leather Details

A classic trench coat is one of those few timeless pieces that truly never goes out of style – for reals. I mean, let’s put it this way: if there’s one thing you can safely splurge $750+ on (*cough*Burberry*cough*) without fear of falling victim to a passing fashion fad, it’s a trench. But what if you want something a bit more… updated? True, trendy details are the exact things that keep a piece from being truly timeless, but sometimes they’re hard to resist. Case in point: strategically-placed leather trim and paneling. We’ve seen our share of contrast sleeves carried over from last season, but this time around, quilted leather shoulders, leather arm cuffs, and even leather patchwork are edging up our favorite classic trench and parka silhouettes. I mean, it’s basically like two of our favorite fall-weather staples – our tried-and-true leather jacket and our favorite goes-with-everything trench coat – had a ridiculously stylish baby. Yes, a jacket baby. Check out my favorites in the links below!

Four Statement-Making Jackets in Spring-Friendly Pastels

Now that Easter is far behind us, I’d like to think that we can embrace spring-friendly pastels and muted tones without the fear of looking like an Easter egg. For the warm weather ahead, I’m all about lightweight, statement-making jackets in soft, pretty colors, which keep the look fresh and season-appropriate rather than bundled-up and stuffy. There’s something about sorbet-inspired shades that’s just refreshing and fashion-forward, even if the weather isn’t as reliably sunny and cheery as it should be. Whether you’re looking for an updated spin on the classic denim jacket, a relaxed blazer to elevate your casual style, a feminine take on the moto jacket, or a cute cropped style in spring-friendly tweed, I’ve got you covered with some of my favorite pastel jacket picks for the season! Check them out in the links below.

Even if you weren’t much for school spirit back in your high school days, the latest stylish upgrades on the classic varsity jacket may inspire you to break out a pair of pom-pons! Go Prep School Chic in a Sleek Plaid Blazer

Bold, bright patterns have been having a serious style moment in the past year or so – some of which we had never even seen before this whole print craze hit the fashion jackpot – and they’ve been serving as a fun, vibrant way to spice up all those monochromatic, cozy basics we collected from last fall and winter. From newly rejuvenated prints like southwest-inspired patterns and tapestry to timeless trends like plaid, paisley, and polka dots, it’s fun to see our favorite seasonal staples steer away from solids and get the printed treatment. As a pattern, tartan/plaid has the power to conjure up a variety of style scenarios and fashion fads, from Scottish kilts to glam rock and of course, private school uniforms, and we’re calling inspiration from the latter to add a fun preppy vibe to our fall look. A nice tailored plaid blazer looks sophisticated without verging on boring, adding a dash of Gossip Girl-esque charm to any work ensemble or casual outfit. Pair with a silky blouse, skinny slacks and sensible pumps for 9-5, then switch to coated jeans, a muscle tank, and chunky moto booties to complete the perfect edgy (yet still perfectly put-together) after-hours ensemble.

Blazers Get the Fall Treatment with Leather Lapel Details

Blazers and their slightly-more-structured cousin, the tuxedo jacket, have been a style staple for the casual fashionista everywhere. Throw one on over a classic tee and jeans and you’ve instantly transformed your look from lazy to luxe. Top off a tank and shorts and you’ve got yourself a night-out ensemble that’s totally sophisticated and sexy. The possibilities are endless, and the transition power is always impressive, and now just in time for fall, some of our favorite styles are getting even more stylish with chic leather details. Leather lapels are a subtle yet sexy way to edge up your favorite suited-up look – it’s just as sleek and polished, but with the slightest rock ‘n roll touch that’s perfect for pairing with your new spiky heels or moto ankle boots! It’s the perfect transition piece from summer to fall, if you’re not quite ready to break out the full-on leather jacket!

Summer Sophistication Done Right, Thanks To Max Studio!

While we ladies in San Francisco can hardly complain about extreme weather, my summer vacations visiting family in Connecticut have taught me enough to know that when the weather gets really hot, you rarely want to get out of the pool, let alone get dressed up and wear real clothes. But the truth is, you don’t have to suffer to look sharp when it’s sweltering outside (contrary to popular belief, pain isn’t always beauty), and the newest Spring/Summer lookbook from Max Studio is chock-ful of comfy-chic pieces that manage to ooze sophistication without making you feel miserable! The key is to find stylish summer staples in lightweight, breathable, weather-friendly fabrics like linen and cotton, and of course, exposing skin to stay cool while still keeping it classy! Opt for a pair of goes-with-everything linen shorts, and a drape-y top that looks luxe but feels as comfy as your favorite tee. And of course, don’t underestimate the need for a lightweight summer jacket – this linen blazer-style jacket goes a long way in boosting the sophistication scale without making you break a sweat!

Cute & Cropped Spring Jackets, Courtesy of Karen Millen!

Now that it’s officially spring, the season’s festive neons, sweet florals, and candy-colored denim have us looking forward to more sunny weather to come. However, in all our giddy excitement (also known as spring fever), it can be easy to forget that the weather at hand may not exactly lend itself to all the skin-baring, sunny-day styles we’ve been eyeing. The truth is, spring can still get pretty darn chilly, no matter where you are… but that doesn’t mean you have to let the weather ruin your outfit! Just make sure you equip yourself with an equally spring-ready jacket! Lightweight yet statement-making, Karen Millen’s latest spring pieces will complement your look without leaving you stranded in the pre-summer chilliness. Lace details, cheery brights, and bold prints are all fair game, and serve as the perfect transition piece while we wait for the weather to really heat up!
