Long and Lean – Gap Nautical Style Jeans

I’m average height myself, but I have several female friends who are taller than 5′10″, and whenever we talk fashion, the conversation always comes around to complaints about pant leg and sleeve length.  Long-sleeved shirts actually end in the middle of the forearm, and pants end up looking more like capris.  I’m only average height, and sometimes long sleeves are even too short for me – it must be frustrating if that happens to you with pretty much every piece of clothing you try on.

Every tall girl I know tells me the same thing: shop at The Gap for casual clothes.  They have an entire section for tall women, and it’s not just that the garments are longer – they’re actually constructed with a tall woman’s proportions in mind.  For example, check out these nautical jeans.  They’re not just a longer inseam; they have a lower knee, and are tailored to fit the hips of taller women.

Everyone Needs a Perfect Pair of Organic Jeans!

Everyone needs a perfect pair of comfy jeans and since mine are going to need to be replaced soon, I did a bit of searching and found some great deals on these super soft and comfy, organic blue jeans. Since five of the top nine pesticides used to produce cotton are carcinogens, it’s really important to buy organic whenever you can

Del Forte Organic JeansDel Forte Denim (starting at $170 with free shipping at GreenLoop.com)
They were the first and they’re still the best. Del Forte Denim believes that true luxury is the combination of great design and ethical production practices. That’s why they only use certified organic cotton and safe, clean, fairly compensated manufacturing. Send them back for recycling and you’ll get 10% off your next pair.

The Good Society (starting at $106 with free shipping at GreenLoop.com)
The Good Society label centers around its collection of fairly traded 100% organic denim with clean styling and a fit that ensures it will be the pair you wear to look good and feel great. Available in slim and bootcut styles.

Reef Heritage Organic Denim Pant for $40 on Amazon

Eileen Fisher Organic Cotton Stretch Denim Straight Jean ($148 at Naturals of Ashland)
Rivets and contrast stitching provide an updated look on this five-pocket classic, while the comfort cut and fit Monarch Organic Cotton Jeansremains the high quality we love from Eileen Fisher. Cut with ease through the thigh and knee with a contoured comfort waist and back yoke.

Monarch in Black (for $145 at EdunOnline.com)
5-pocket black magic bootcut jeans with tonal Edun leaf detail. Made of 98% organic cotton.

Men’s Wide Legged Jeans – A Fashion “Do?”

mens-loose-denim-jeans

One of the denim looks for guys this fall is wide-cut jeans, but these aren’t as sloppy as you’d think, and they don’t look like what I remember years go. This style of jeans is not fitted, even around the hips, but they’re also not completely shapeless, if you can imagine that.  The idea is to pair them with a loose button-down, or with sweaters as the weather chills.

I can certainly see the appeal of having some comfortable jeans for autumn and winter, and with prices on these jeans starting around just $25, you really can’t go wrong.  You may as well try the look and see how it works for you – I’m guessing that this will be really flattering on guys with a more substantial build.  Guys who are more slim may want to stick with a style that won’t swallow them up.

Save on Colorful Skinny Jeans from Target

skinny-jeans-target

I keep coming back to Target for all my recessionista needs – they just seem to have the best stylish basics at reasonable prices. For trendy styles like these skinny jeans, Target is the perfect place to shop. Who knows if skinny jeans will be here to stay, but how can you resist these adorable candy colored denim styles for only $19.99 a pair?

I saw some similar jeans in a much higher-end store for ten times the price, and to be honest I think these look just as good. And they’re so comfortable! Pair these sweet skinnies with ballet flats, Havaianas flip flops or platform pumps.

Back to School Basics

btsbasics
Old Navy
is a great place to stock up on basics for back to school.  For under $35 you can put together a whole outfit for girls. With jeans priced at $14.50, a cardigan sweater to ward off the fall chill ($15) and basic tees that have a touch of style with a puff sleeve for only $4 you’ll be able to splurge on some fun accessories or cute shoes!

For boys, long sleeve tees priced at $9.50 can be worn under summer tees or polos ($7) for a layered look.  Boys jeans start at $14 a pair when you buy two or more.

Don’t forget socks- a great price at $4 for a pack of three when you buy 2 or more packages. Whether the dog runs off with them or the dryer mysteriously “eats” them, you can never have too many!

CJ by Cookie Johnson Denim Line

cj_denim

Considering Magic Johnson’s business savvy, it’s not a surprise that wife Cookie (who has a degree in Retailing of Clothing and Textiles) would team up with one of the industry’s best—Michael Glasser, founder of 7 for all Mankind and Citizens of Humanity and current owner of Rich & Skinny—for new premium demim line CJ by Cookie Johnson.

The collection includes boot cut, straight leg, boyfriend, high-waist styles, plus leggings, running from $145-$198 in sizes 24-38. The fit is catered to curvy, fit women, women who don’t fall into the “standard, slim cut of premium jeans,” which, let’s face it, is a lot of customers. Check a number of styles online at Nordstrom, and also Cookie’s arms after the jump, she is fit.
