Jimmy Choo Yam Over-the-knee Leather Boots

I was looking for some over-the-knee boots to wear with leggings and a chunky knit sweater this winter. Over-the-knee styles are a fabulous way to update your winter wardrobe. Choose from platform, wedge and flat style over-the-knee boots. My preference would be the flat styles. They add the perfect dash of practicality to the boot and look great as a casual winter wear during the snowiest of days.

Indulge your inner Robin Hood with these Jimmy Choo “Yam” over-the-knee leather boots. These beauties are covered in a black shimmery leather with a rabbit lining. They may very well be some of the most extravagant boots you’ll come across this winter.  An adjustable leather tab and silver tone buckle are used to adjust the boot for a snug fit. These are definitely a step up from your comfy pair of tried and true shearling lined boots.

A More Feminine Take on the Military Look

leather-military-jacket

I have to admit, I’m not much on the current trend toward military styles. Military-style items tend to be boxy at best, and gaudy at worst.  I’ve seen a few people actually wearing this stuff out and about, and for the most part I think it looks kind of silly.

However… I try to keep my mind open to any possibilities, and I have to admit that this illia Crunch Leather Military Jacket is actually REALLY cute!  It could be the military item for people like me who don’t really do military items.  It says that it’s a leather military jacket. It looks great with boyfriend jeans too.

The thing that sets this jacket aside from others I’ve seen is the simplicity of it – other than the metal buttons, there’s not a lot of busy decoration going on here, and the solid color, for me, is a lot less harsh on the eye than some of the multi-colored jackets I’ve seen out there.

Qs+As—Emma Carroll’s Modern Cool

2009_06_09_emma_necklaces
It took me about two seconds to fall in love with designer Emma Carroll’s fantastically modern jewelry—fans of punchy leather, hardware and crisp ribbon. Ranging from $54 for earrings to $75 for bracelets and $106-$175 for necklaces, the collection is extremely reasonable for the high quality and upscale, tactile appeal. I wore the black feathers necklace, shown above, last weekend to rave reviews from a fashionable cast I would trust with my closet and my jewelry box. Exciting news of an in-the-works bag collection—along with gems of behind-the-label info—is below. Clockwise from top left: black feathers necklace, $172;disk earrings; gold chips necklace, $106; leather and brass pendant.

Occupation: Accessories Designer

Location: Chicago—we just moved from London back to the US a couple months ago.

Fabrications, materials, inspiration. Your three-word response: Simplicity, attention to detail, vibrant colors (does that count as 3 words?)

If you could bestow one of your current creations on the world, which would it be and why? The Long Disk necklaces are my favorite at the moment; you can wear them with a vest and jeans. Just one on its own or a couple layered and it looks like you’ve made an effort!

The long disk necklaces, how it all began, obsessions and more…

How did it all begin? When I was a kid I always wanted to be ‘an artist’. At 18, I studied art foundation at Central Saint Martins in London and my eyes were opened up. My time there helped me identify my abilities in the more detail-oriented aspects of design and I liked the idea of creating a tangible product.

I did my degree in Fashion Accessory Design at the London College of Fashion, which gave me a really comprehensive knowledge of traditional leather-crafting techniques and materials and I found that I really loved working with leather. It handles so nicely and ages beautifully—it’s like a living material, the longer you use it the better it looks! I spent time interning for print designer Neisha Crossland and, when I graduated, worked for cult London accessories designer Ally Capellino, which only served to further my love of leather and help hone my design skills.

But in the evenings I worked on my own designs, playing around with different leathers and shapes. The byproducts of the bags and accessories produced some interesting pieces and I started to create small pieces of leather jewelry and I liked the way it looked and so did other people!

An average day consists of… It usually starts with coffee, checking emails and a bit of Google-ing. Depending on the day, I’ll either be at the studio of my friend Meg McGuinness, helping her with her new bag range, or working on my own new bag range.

I spend a lot of time doing research; we visit lots of antiques markets and malls around Chicago and up around Milwaukee. We recently went to the Hamilton Museum of Wood Type in Wisconsin, which is such a great place! [Sig other and biz partner] Matt and I also spend a lot of time wandering around the city, it can be very inspiring, and Chicago in the summer is amazing.

I want! I want! Where can I find your offerings? You can buy directly from our website, emmacarrolletc.com! We’re selling to a couple of boutiques in the Chicago area and we’re just starting to reach out to boutiques around the country so look out for us in a store near you!

B+S Wants—Vivier’s La Tropezienne Summer Tote

leathertote

I fell in love with designer Clare Vivier’s eco-minded handbags and accessories during LA Fashion Week—a collection of high-quality canvas and leather bags, clutches and laptop cases at startlingly fair price points. Today, Vivier gives me even more reason to fawn with the limited-edition La Tropezienne tote, made from eco-tanned Italian remnant leather. It’s available via email order only (clare@seevivier.com), and, again, the outstanding price—$150!

There’s even a local story behind the bag: Vivier procured the remnant Italian leather from LA consultant and former shoe/handbag designer Adriana Caras (who used to have a boutique on Fairfax). Get the full story here.

Why I love the Coach Parker Leather Shoulder Bag:

  • The size is perfect for a mom with a toddler.
Madleyn is 2 so I don't have to carry 3 outfits, diapers, 2 sippies, snacks, etc..

I carry 1 change of clothes, a sippy cup, a snack bag, a book, and a toy.  All of these things plus my wallet, phone, and 'accessories' fit nicely in this Parker.

  • One of the outer gusset pockets holds Madelyn's sippy cup and the other holds my iPhone giving me access to two of the most important things I need when I'm out.
  • The 18” handle with 8 1/2” drop makes the bag easy to carry and get into even while I'm carrying Madelyn.
  • I love that the inner slip and zipper pockets in this bag are thin and
not bulky so they don't stick out into the bag but give just enough
room for storing lipstick, a compact mirror, and even an 8 pack of
    crayons.
  • The Parker Leather Shoulder Bag is available in rosegold/nickel (shown here) and three solid shades.
  • Overall, the Coach Parker Leather Shoulder Bag is an excellent bag for moms with new babies and toddlers alike and of course for women in general!
