The wait is over, beauty addicts! Derek Lam’s much-anticipated collaboration line with Estee Lauder has finally arrived, and you can have it all for $85. The collection actually isn’t a range, but rather consists of just one stylish set – a chic minaudiere clutch filled with midnight-inspired makeup hues like Kajal Crayon in Near Night, eyeshadow in Smoked Gold, and a universally flattering lip color in Smoked Blush. Derek Lam worked directly with Estee Lauder creative director Tom Pecheux to come up with a set of makeup must-haves inspired by the textures and tones of Lam’s Spring 2014 collection. Designed to be versatile enough to suit both the subtle and the statement-making beauty maven – and to create looks for both day or night – the collection consists of more wearable hues that can be used to create a stronger, sexier look when desired. It would have been a great addition to my Christmas wishlist, but hey – now I have something to spend one of my many gift cards on!

Lancome Debuts Its Long-Lasting Rouge in Love Lipstick Collection

Although I’m quite the avid makeup shopper (and experimenter!), I only just recently started venturing into the realm of lipstick in place of my tried-and-true favorite glosses. That’s a pretty big deal for me – especially as someone who appreciates the room-for-error convenience of just haphazardly swiping on a quick coat of gloss and going about my business – so if I’m going to put in the extra effort of carefully applying a bold lip color, it better be fabulous and it better last! Lancome’s new line of lipsticks, Rouge in Love, strives to excel in both those areas. With a series of 21 shades (divided into three themed “moods” to suit different occasions!), Rouge in Love provides shades that are pretty and fresh enough to wear during the day, but are buildable enough to make a sexy statement for night as well. High-shine, highly pigmented, and long-lasting (up to 6 hours of freshly-applied perfection!), Rouge in Love’s shades are worth the slight splurge at $25 a pop!

Yay or Nay: Bobbi Brown’s New In-Your-Face Neons

I have mixed feelings about Bobbi Brown’s new ‘Neons & Nudes‘ collection. Mainly because I do love wearing nude makeup shades, but just about every beauty brand right now already has the same obsession (with Urban Decay knocking it out of the park with their 2-part Naked palette of course!). In other words, it’s hard for me to be impressed by yet another series of not-so-blah neutrals. The neons, on the other hand, totally intrigue me. I’m not one to regularly incorporate many not-seen-in-nature colors into my daily beauty routine, but I’m always open to experiment, and the more “adventurous” side of Bobbi’s new collection is definitely inspiring me to dabble outside my comfort zone! Some of my favorite collection highlights include the three punched-up lip gloss additions – now in Citrus, Cosmic Pink, and Ultra Violet – which are fun and spring-festive but sheer enough to not appear costume-y or kitschy. I also adore the new eyeshadows, in Ultra Violet Shimmer Wash and the stunning cobalt Blue Bell. Of course, I realize that these shades aren’t for everyone (and they require a very skilled hand to wear them chicly), so what do you think – gorgeous or gimmicky?

Chanel’s Spring 2012 Horizon Blush Has Us Dreaming of Warmer Days!

Let’s face it – no matter how ambitious (or how simple) your New Year’s resolutions may be, it can be difficult diving into “fresh start” mode when the winter weather at hand is so dreary and depressing. But fear not – Chanel’s Spring 2012 Collection is fiercely gung-ho about looking forward to the brighter, sunnier times ahead, and I dare you not to jump on-board! One of the most noteworthy items of the cheery, sherbet-hued collection is the color-blocked Blush Horizon de Chanel, a shimmery highlighter featuring flattering rose, coral, and peach hues that can be blended together, layered, or worn separately for a pretty spring flush. It’s sheer enough that it can be used as a highlighter for the subtlest glow, but is also buildable if you’re hoping to add statement-making tint to your sun-starved cheeks. At $58, it’s a bit of a splurge just to get a head-start on your spring-friendly collection, but it’s hard to say no to such a pretty compact… plus, think of it as a collector’s item!

Be a “Magenta Muse” With Illamasqua’s Latest Makeup Collection

If there’s one thing Brit-based beauty brand Illamasqua is known for, it’s for being bold. Ballsy, even. With their no-holds-barred approach to highly-concentrated color and in-your-face embracing of all the runway’s most “out there” trends, they’re definitely neither shy nor subtle! That said, we’re relieved to see them stray from their usual blinding neons (and we mean “blinding” in a good way) and disco-esque molten metallic shadows (again, “disco-esque” in a good way) to embrace some truly fall-festive fare with their Magenta Muse collection for Summer/Fall 2011! In place of plum and evergreen shades and other traditional deep jewel tones that have become autumn wardrobe staples, Illamasqua puts their own fun spin on the hues with deep shimmering magenta, a gorgeous teal shade, and the very on-trend matte creamy gray that continues to be every beauty maven’s go-to nail shade. While we don’t necessarily recommend layering all the colors of the collection at once (after all, a literal Magenta Muse look probably only looks cool on the model), we’re loving the two-toned manicure look for fall!

Burberry Beauty’s Spring 2011 Collection Is Pretty In Pinks (& Nudes!)

It’s crazy to think that Burberry Beauty is less than a year old, yet at the same time I remember the anticipation of the launch like it was yesterday! The fashion house’s first line for fall was all about classic shades and signature autumn hues like reds, plums, and browns (after all, the color palette was inspired by their classic trench), and it definitely begged the question, what will they come up with next? Well, the new season brings a chance for us to find out, and their Spring 2011 collection does not disappoint! While the selection is a bit on the safe side, it manages to be classic and pretty without verging on boring. The soft neutral color palette boasts plenty of nudes and rosy pinks that give the perfectly fresh, barely-there spring glow that’s subtle yet statement-making at the same time. The collection features new Sheer Shadow, Satin Lipstick, Natural Lip Gloss, and Natural Blush shades in taupe, rose pink, trench, and a soft creamy coral. Plus, the best part of a neutral-based collection is that you can afford to go all out and create an entire full-face look out of the shades without looking like you’ve gone overboard. Splurge away!

MAC x Mickey Contractor Goes Bollywood For Their Spring 2011 Collection

Not only is Mickey Contractor the mastermind behind Bollywood’s perfectly-applied faces, but he’s also MAC’s Director of Makeup Artistry for India — so it’s only fitting that he’d have his own MAC collection to share his makeup genius with fans on this side of the pond and beyond! The Mickey Contractor for MAC collection,  isn’t quite as over-the-top and theatrical as you might expect from the king of Bollywood beauty. The surprisingly reigned-in collection focuses mainly on creamy, flawless skin and rich, matte blush shades to bring movie star skin to the masses. After all, a gorgeous base is the first important step for any makeup look. But don’t get me wrong — it’s not all just about amped-up neutrals! The collection also features the occasional pop of saturated color, from the peacock-hued gel liner to the bright fuchsia lipstick that brings a little pizzazz to the otherwise subdued selection! I especially love the deep purple Marvel shadow, which shimmers with pink pearl. As a result, the overall collection impresses with mostly wearable shades, broken up with more exciting bold colors that come across as refreshing and fun rather than garish and expected! Look out for its debut in the new year!

Illamasqua ‘Throb’ Collection For Luscious Lips & Fiery Tips This Valentine’s Day!

If everything you know about Brit-based beauty brand Illamasqua is what you’ve learned from what Sephora carries, then you’re at least familiar with the fact that “color-shy” would not be an accurate descriptor. With company roots stemming from the 1920′s club scene, it’s no wonder that the costume-y brand has evolved over the years to be wearable, yet still undeniably bold — boasting a collection of slick, sticky glosses, edgy nail shades, and opaque cream shadows with seriously impressive color pay-off, whether chrome, metallic, or rainbow-bright. It’s no surprise then, that when it comes to Valentine’s Day, the brand is not about soft pinks and romantic rosy hues. We’re talkin’ passionate reds, inky blacks, and stark white shades — imagine a love-scorned Queen of Hearts for inspiration… if she actually had a heart, that is.

The ‘Throb’ collection for V-Day 2011 is a 5-piece mini collection of 2 lip colors and 3 nail lacquers, meant to highlight a woman’s most seductive feature (her lips, of course) with a fierce manicure to match. While the nail varnishes — Throb (red), Load (white), and Scorn (black) — aren’t shades we haven’t seen before, I’m inspired to mimic the model’s three-toned Valentine’s-inspired French manicure! And the lip shades (Succubus gloss and Sangers lipstick) are such a juicy true red, even I’m swayed to stray from my signature taupe gloss!
