I don’t know about you but my skin is already lacking in luster and I’m not happy about it when it comes to the dark days of winter. That’s where Laura Mercier and her latest palette comes to my rescue. The Bonne Mine Healthy Glow for Face & Cheeks Crème Colour Palatte creates a radiant look in a variety of ways. Want to know more?

The whole palette includes a bronzer in a larger size, two shades of glowing blush and two highlighters for the face. That’s not all. Tucked inside the case are four cards with how-to charts to assist you in creating that healthy glowing look we all crave. Even better is that 100% of the profits from the palette will go towards the Laura Mercier Ovarian Cancer Fund. Each year Mercier creates a product to benefit this fund and 2013 might be the best idea yet! Ultra-sheer and highly blendable the palette is universal for everyone. The soft pinks and beiges look gorgeous on every skin tone. It gives each user a soft, sun-kissed face that doesn’t look all made up. Who doesn’t love that?

The Laura Mercier Bonne Mine Palette is available online at lauramericer.com and wherever Laura Mercier makeup is sold.

Estee Lauder Looks to the Stars for Holiday Beauty Inspiration

I admittedly flip through to the final pages of a magazine to check out my monthly horoscope (hey, why not?), though I don’t exactly seek the planets’ advice when it comes to making major life decisions. That said, astrology’s influence on the latest fashion and beauty trends is undeniable – from Charlotte Olympia’s whimsical smoking flats to Valentino’s Spring 2014 accessories, and beyond. Beauty brand Estee Lauder isn’t one to let a major trend pass it by, so just in time for the Holiday 2013 gifting season, they’ve unveiled a new limited edition version of their Zodiac Powder Compacts. Redone in matte gold with rhinestone detailing, these sleek, astrology-inspired compacts house the brand’s Lucidity Translucent Pressed Powder and are refillable, so you’ll be sure to get plenty of use out of it! Each collectible compact will set you back $50 apiece, which is a small price to pay for something that makes mid-day touch-ups infinitely more glamorous.

All I Want For Christmas is Mariah Carey’s New Holiday Collection for OPI!

Sorry, I couldn’t resist the post title. But It’s been almost two decades since the release of Mariah Carey’s first Christmas album, and few holiday albums since then have managed to evoke the same amount of seasonal cheer. You can’t deny it – Mariah definitely has the whole Christmas spirit thing under her Mrs. Claus belt, so it seems only fitting that she’d put her recent partnership with OPI to good use with another aptly-timed nail polish collection! The 18-shade Holiday 2013 collection is heavy on the red shades (though that’s hardly surprising), with some frosty, snow-inspired tones and of course, plenty of glitter. Mariah’s first collaboration line of polishes featured the debut of OPI’s Liquid Sand shades – gritty yet shimmery, ultra-fine glitter formulas – and this time, Mariah is unveiling six more limited-edition Liquid Sands, just in time for stocking-stuffing season! Not glitzy enough for you? Don’t fret – the holiday capsule collection also includes a top coat made out of genuine 18k white gold leaf, which is bound to put you right in cocktail party mood!

You know what they say – all good things must come to an end – and this holiday season, MAC’s successful partnership with Rihanna officially comes to a close. But before saying goodbye for good, the makeup giant is releasing the final installment of its “RiRi Hearts MAC” collection. The rose gold-themed capsule line, which is being released oh-so-conveniently in time for the 2013 Holiday shopping season, features the return of the famed RiRi Woo lipstick. It also boasts two new lipstick shades, as well as felt-tipped liquid liners, gorgeously shimmery eyeshadow compacts, bronzing powder, a two-sided eyeshadow brush, and even a RiRi Woo nail lacquer. It’s hard not to fall in love (we dare you to resist!), but before you set yourself up for disappointment, don’t forget – like the other RiRi-approved installments before it, this Holiday collection is sure to sell out in record time! Look out for its debut this December!

Stila’s High-Shine Vinyl Lip Gloss Dares to Defy Fall’s Matte Craze

As any avid trend-hunter knows, Fall is a very exciting time for both the fashion and beauty worlds. And while many of this season’s hottest makeup trends seem to be converting gloss enthusiasts everywhere to matte lipstick, Stila’s latest lip color offers up a warm welcome home to the most faithful of gloss girls. After all, aside from smooth, shine-free shades, vinyl is also having a major moment, and Stila is taking full advantage with their Stay All Day Vinyl Lip Gloss series. Released as part of their Fall 2013 collection, this 8-shade line of lip lacquers delivers high shine and maximum color pay-off without budging, feathering, or drying out lips. Thanks to nourishing ingredients like green coffee oil and seaweed extract, the formula glides on smoothly and stays put while moisturizing throughout the day. Even if you’re one of the many beauty mavens who are mad about matte this Fall, there’s still something to be said about a sexy, glossy pout that keeps its shine for hours!

Drugstore Buy of the Week – CoverGirl The Capitol Collection

CoverGirl has a genius new collection!  They’ve teamed up with the soon-to-be released second installment of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, to release a limited edition makeup and nail line.

Even if you’re not a Hunger Games fan (or super fan!) there’s a little something for everyone in this collection.

The overall color palette focuses on shimmery, metallic versions of purple, green, gold, orange and red.  The collection has nine nail polish shades, six Smoochies lip glosses and a special Flamed Up Mega Curl Mascara.  And that’s not all!  There’s also CoverGirl’s very first nail stickers in different designs, like the flames (shown above).

Let’s start with the polishes:  These are their mini-versions of the full sized Cover Girl Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss bottles, called Glosstinis.  The polishes still feature a full sized brush  with flexible bristles, however, for easy application.

From our friends at Palacinka Beauty Blog

Unlike most of the shades in their permanent Nail Gloss range, these are much more sheer, with a thinner, yet still smooth texture.  They are buildable, but overall, these will provide much more of a shiny, shimmery effect that deep pigmented color, no matter which shade you choose.

Some of my favorite nail shades were, Black Heat (a very cool deep forest green with a black base and gold/green metallic shimmer).  Inferno is a very nice shade for Fall, combining a maroon with gold and bronze metallic shimmer.  If you’re looking for a cool Red, Rouge Red is a Orange-Red with lots of golden metallic shimmer.  Another shade that was nice for a soft, shimmery look is Scalding Emerald.  This is a very sheer green, filled with green, blue, gold and bronze metallic shimmer – so pretty!  Keep in mind Scalding Emerald is one of the sheerest shades in the collection however (even with several coats).

The nail stickers are fun and have a clear background which were perfect to layer over any of the Glosstini shades.

The collection also features the six, equally sheer, shimmery Smoochies Sizzle Glosses, and the Flamed Up Mega Curl mascara for those of you who really want to amp up naturally straight lashes. – RLB

Spider Lashes That Actually Look Chic? Thakoon Proves its Possible!

  • posted October 5th, 2013

Spider lashes. They’re a beauty faux pas, typically caused by clumpy mascara (or just one coat too many), that makeup lovers everywhere have trained long and hard to avoid at all costs. But what if they could actually be… chic?! The models representing Thakoon’s Spring 2014 runway presentation proved that thick, spidery fringe isn’t all that bad after all – in fact, it makes eyes pop in a fresh new way that eliminates the need for heavy shadow and liner. Makeup artist Diane Kendal layered models’ lashes in at least three coats of NARS’ Larger Than Life Volumizing Mascara backstage at the show. That’s certainly a doable option, but you can also get a similar look without drowning your own fringe by using tweezers to pinch together small groups of neighboring lashes to form exaggerated, doll-inspired points. If you’re not afraid of falsies, Make Up For Ever has a pair of fake fringe that will help you achieve a similar look as well – hit up your local Sephora and look for the pair named 130 Jennifer. What say you, beauty mavens – are you a fan of Thakoon’s spidery, seventies-inspired fringe? Sound off in the comments below! Photo Credit: Style.com

Jason Wu for Lancome is Here! Peep the Collection

After six months of anticipation, Jason Wu for Lancome’s capsule collection has finally arrived in all its flirty-feminine glory. In addition to three color design eye shadow palettes (complete with helpful color charts!), the collection contains three additional pressed eyeshadow pots, three lipsticks (in varying shades of red), three nail polishes, black liquid liner, and a navy mascara. Aside from the makeup itself, Jason Wu himself actually played an important part in designing the sleek gray packaging for the collection, ensuring that it reflected his own design aesthetic. “I think it will stand out on the beauty floor because I don’t think anyone else is using gray for their collection right now,” he tells WWD. “I think the packaging part is as special as what’s inside.” Do you agree? Shop the entire collection on Nordstrom’s site, and look out for the second installment of the collaboration, due out next year!

Beauty Find – tarte Cosmetics Beauty Without Boundaries Makeup Set

Calling all tarte fans! (or fans of amazing makeup bags…)

tarte Beauty Without Boundaries Makeup Set is a beauty of a collection.  As you can see, this time around tarte really went all out with the design and choice of products in this set.  Everything in this collection can take you from day to night to that weekend trip effortlessly.

So what’s included in this 8-piece set?

  • A beautiful limited edition nylon chevron print makeup bag (about 8 ”in x 9.5′in) that can easily double as a all-in-one chic carry all clutch.
  • BB tinted treatment primer with Broad Spectrum SPF 30
  • NEW BB tinted undereye corrector
  • Lights, Camera, Lashes! waterproof inner rim liner
  • Lights, Camera, Flashes! Statement Mascara.
  • NEW LipSurgence power pigment in awakening
  • double-ended complexion brush with matching chevron print
  • dual sided diffuser bamboo concealer brush in matching chevron print
  • While some of you may have tried some of these tarte products individually (the Lights, Camera, Lashes Flashes Statement Mascara is among one of my personal favorites!), I loved having these key skin and color products all together.  The BB tinted treatment primer had a great consistency and wonderful coverage.  I applied it with the double ended complexion brush and got flawless results. The coverage was light/medium depending on how much product is applied, but it is buildable. The color match was good and it really did set the rest of my makeup for the day, on top of giving me built-in SPF 30 sun protection.  The feel was very lightweight and the finish was semi-matte.

A new product for me was the undereye corrector, which is a very good concealer product perfect for covering smaller darker areas on the face.  It’s lightweight, creamy and easy to blend.  It worked beautifully with the concealer brush as well.  The liner, mascara and LipSurgence are all products that I’ve used many times before and are goof-proof and long lasting.  This will be your go-to makeup set you reach for time after time when you need to look great, polished – without ever having to try too hard.

The set I used is Deep (pictured above) which has the Deep versions of the BB Cream and the Concealer.  There are four additional shade collections available. Don’t miss out on this one. – RLB
