This Week’s Pick – Palacinka Beauty Blog Nail Polish Find – Lippmann Collection ‘Happy Birthday’

Under $20 Holiday Beauty Gift Idea!

So you’re looking for a festive holiday nail look this year? Look NO FURTHER than the new Lippmann Collection nail shade, ‘Happy Birthday’!

This is one of the most unique nail shades I’ve encountered this year, because the glitter contained within is not only filled with a skittles bag worth of colors (including gold and silver), but the glitter particles themselves are both round and hexagonal in shape!

The base of the polish is clear and with the various shaped glitter it really does give a cute, party confetti-type of effect on the nail. The glitter is shiny and the colors are all evenly distributed along with brush, but with two coats, the red and silver glitter seemed to stand out the most to me.

Two coats gives a great effect (just keep in mind you will still some bare nail among the glitter, which is the intended effect). Because it’s in a clear base – yes, it absolutely works to layer over another colored nail polish. I loved it over a bright red, purple and blue shades, which were really fun. The creative possibilities are really endless with this shade.

Lippman’s formula is extremely easy and smooth to apply and I loved how long lasting and chip resistant it was. There’s really nothing else out there like this one, so order now for yourself and as a holiday gift for the fellow beauty lover in your life too! – RLB

Fall 2009: OPI Suede Nail Polish Collection

Fall 2009: OPI Suede Nail Polish Collection

OPI has released the new Suede Nail Polish Collection for Fall 2009 that features the look of suede in six of its best-selling colors. Using matte + shimmer combination, the Suede collection is available in six iconic shades:

  • Russian Navy
  • You Don’t Know Jacques!
  • Lincoln Park After Dark
  • Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees
  • OPI Ink
  • We’ll Always Have Paris

OPI recommends not to use any base coat, top coat, drying drops or hand creams when wearing these nail polishes just like in the Matte Collection.

“Suede by OPI elevates nails to a new dimension of fashion, as exciting as a pair of stiletto-heeled suede pumps,” says Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director. “The rich suede look is a stunning complement to fall fashions, and is meant for the woman who is confident about her style and wants to stand out. Suede by OPI does not wear as long as original OPI Nail Lacquer – but it is a totally original look you’ll want to own this season!”

The shades resembles the look of fall fashion so I’m very excited to try the collection.

Buy it: Brucci Jaded Nail Hardener

I’m not a big impulse buyer when it comes to beauty products, except when it comes to nail polish. I have a particular weakness for Chanel Le Vernis, which I’ve been in love with since the introduction of Vamp back in the ’90s. As far as impulse purchases go, Chanel nail polish, at $23 a pop, isn’t totally obscene–it’s not like buying a Chanel 2.55 bag, for example–however, the problem is that they make such coveted shades of polish that everyone wants them, they sell out everywhere, and you can’t find a bottle to save your life. Which, of course, makes my inner hunter want it even more. This is the case with their latest must-have shade, Jade (which, yes, is sold out at the moment). I’m clearly not the only one who wants a bottle–they’re going for up to $75 on eBay, a 300% markup. But sometimes the shopping gods smile upon you. Case in point: Yesterday at Duane Reade, en route to the toothpaste aisle, a shiny little green bottle caught my eye. Creamy and minty-green, Brucci Nail Hardener in Jaded is a bit more metallic than Chanel’s Jade, but for $2.99, it’s close enough. It may not be as chic as the squared-off bottle with the double-C logo, but, in these recessionary times, nothing is chicer than a great bargain.

Essie Fall 2009 “Cuddle With Color” Collection

essie-fall-2009
Cool new shades from Essie’s new Fall Collection. Fall is in the air so why not on your nails? Six new shades from Essie’s “Cuddle With Color” Collection is quite a shocker. It’s not the most cohesive collection and by far the most inconsistent the company has produced. Why you might ask? The hues from the collection is a representation of the look and feel of fashion this fall season.

Essie president/founder Essie Weingarten interpreted as “optimistic and cheerful”.

Bright Tights and Pink Parka are brighter shades with an 80’s inspired look. Angora Cardi, a rosy mauve, and Chin Chilly, a gray hue can both be associated with winter fabrics seen in fall fashion trends while Mink Muffs, a burnt taupe color, and Midnight Cami, a deep dark blue hue can both be linked to silks and satin fabrics.

The concept for each shade in the collection does display the optimism Essie’s president intended to capture.

Lindsay Lohan Rocks Candy Nails

Will You Try the Trend?

lindsaylohan_opinailcolor1

Lindsay Lohan was recently seen sporting opaque, almost kids-color nails in California, and we want to know what you think. Are these nails doable for the average gal, or are they way too cutesy?

Lindsay Lohan’s cotton candy colored nails are bright and fun, and I might choose a color for summertime that’s a bit more on the citrus or pearlescent side, and a little less crazy-candy.

What do you think? Is this a doable look for you? If it is, but you can’t commit to something that vibrant a la Lohan, go for OPI in Coney Island Cotton Candy instead. It’s a little more tame, but still a change from our usual summer selections!

Impulse Buy of the Week – MAC Violet Fire, Style Warriors Collection

I mentioned recently on twitter that I thought that MAC’s current limited edition collection, Style Warriors, is a really beautiful and creative makeup collection – from the color selections to the packaging to the promotional imagery.

In a collection with gorgeous golds, browns, shimmery sands and yellows, the gorgeous magenta nail lacquer shade, Violet Fire, equally stood out for me.

It’s a mid tone blue-based purple with a creamy metallic quality to it – very unique. It’s equally beautiful on nails and toes, and while it may look bright, it’s not neon and as I mentioned before, there is a dash of milky cream color blended in, which softens it up tremendously. It’s still a “notice me” shade – but not distracting or too over the top for most women.

Editor’s Note: It does tend to take 3 full coats to get the full effect that you see in the bottle.

The formula is creamy and medium/thick and with a top coat applied every other day, lasted at least 5 days without any major chipping. This is another limited edition nail shade that any cosmetic lover, nail color fanatic and of course MAC fan MUST have – NOW! – RLB
