OPI & New York Fashion Week 2013

  • posted February 16th, 2013
  • Beauty

Front and center this Mercedes Benz Fashion Week OPI nail lacquers graced the fingertips of many of the runway models at Lincoln Center.

First up was OPI ‘Black Onyx’ seen at BCBGMAXAZRIA topped off with a coat of OPI Matte Nail Envy which gave the look a slightly matte finish with a little bit of gloss.  The dark nails neatly complimented the trending black, white and blue shades, bold prints and furs that the designer featured in their Fall/Winter 2013 collection.  Warm nude polish shades were seen at Candela’s show in colors like ‘Don’t Pretzel My Buttons’.  The romantic look was created by designer Gabriela Perezutti.  The Katherine Polk for Houghton show revealed models oval-shaped tips painted in ‘Samoan Sand’ that were topped off with an elegant lace that equaled a real one-of-a-kind manicure.  Not to be outdone Jenni Kayne’s Fall/Winter showcased models with OPI ‘MonSooner or Later’.  A real bold pop of coral red color the polish looked fantastic when mixed with the designer’s gold, nude, dark camel and emerald colors and similarly brightly painted lips.

OPI nail polish can be purchased at Professional Salons, including Dillard’s, JCPenney, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, and ULTA.

Nail Polish Find – Illamasqua Speckled Nail Varnish, Mottle

The latest new nail polish innovation is one that takes a cue straight out of Easter season – specifically the Easter candy, Cadbury Eggs.

Illamasqua Speckled Nail Varnish in Mottle (shown, above) has not only the beautiful pastel color found in your favorite Easter basket,  but the cute “speckled” or dotted effect seen on the eggs.

There are three other lovely shades in this limited edition collection, including a: pastel blue, pink and lavender.  The polish is very smooth with lots of pigment, dries very fast with a nice amount of shine.  The black speckles are joined with a very cool combination of tiny glitter and bigger hexagonal shaped glitter.

With two coats the polish takes on a more multi-dimensional effect, where a shiny glitter is on the top of the nail, and a more subtle one in the bottom layer.

If I were you I’d scoop up at least two of these shades for Spring! – RLB

butter LONDON Fall/Winter 2012 Collections

fall 2012 butter london

butter LONDON, the “go-to” brand for high fashion beauty, just launched its Fall/Winter 2012 nail polish and lippy collections.

Sequins! Velvet! Satin! Tweed!  This season, the catwalks were abundant with rich texture!  The brand translated this to nails through the infusion of glitter particles and metallic and holographic finishes. The colour tones speak to “earthiness” but are not specifically earth tones – think rust, shimmering greens and silvers. This collection feels future-forward but not futuristic. This season is all about using texture to add interest and depth to your look!

butter LONDON Fall/Winter 2012 Colours Include:

Lovely Jubbly- A vibrant magenta flecked with red, blue, and gold micro particles. Channeling a distinctive retro 70′s feel, this sultry glitter gives high impact sparkle perfect for Disco Divas.

Trustafarian- A golden holographic finish gives this delightful sage green a surprising and sophisticated edge.

Gobsmacked- A heavily pigmented charcoal grey glitter with a slightly textured finish. This shade is unlike anything we’ve seen before.

Shag- A high-shine metallic lacquer in a warm orange-burgundy hue. Reminiscent of fallen Autumn leaves.

Dodgy Barnett- A highly holographic shade that blurs the line between grey and silver.

Lippy Fall/Winter 2012 Collection

The matchy-matchy lip and nail trend is here to stay! Inspired by the high-impact lips seen on the catwalks this season, the LIPPY Fall/Winter 2012 collection includes bold pops of color, chic nudes and a vampy hue. The shades are rich and highly pigmented for a look that’s luxe and perfectly on trend!

The Lippy Lip Gloss Collection includes:

Toff- Darker, dustier, brownish variation on a rose pink

Come to Bed- Red Sexiest red in history

Tea with the Queen- On the pink side of tan, very neutral, but never boring

La Moss- Vampy and full of red wine, just like its inspiration

Queen Vic- Stunning, elegant, and classy; red wine meets cranberry

The butter LONDON Fall/Winter 2012 collection is now available. Priced at $14 each.

Essie’s Mirror Metallic Polishes Will Brighten Up Your Day!

Our friends from TheFind originally introduced us to Essie’s Mirror Metallic Collection. While I’ve been wearing Essie’s gorgeous blue…”bikini so teeny” (probably my only chance to wear a bikini) on my nails this summer and loving it!!!

I finally made the switch. As of today….I’m wearing Essie’s silver nail polish called “no place like chrome” and my nails look like my kitchen faucet. The best is…..I can now put my lipstick on looking into my nails!!!!

My nails are shiny and metallic.(you may need your sunglasses!) My short rounded nails look like mini sun reflectors. Essie’s five Mirror Metallic polishes illuminate with an extremely high shine. They’re almost glowing….maybe too much??? The only drawback is with all this extra shine…. any flaws in your nails show up through the polish. (nothing to loose sleep over unless your mirrored nails keep you up at night) The silver polish pairs so perfectly with sparkling diamond and silver jewelry.

These colors are fabulous for a party, special event or wedding. Personally, I think it’s a bit dazzling for everyday but I am getting used to it. The other colors are…”good as gold” “blue rhapsody” “nothing else metals” and “penny talk”. More than the colors…I love the names. The polishes are fun and you won’t need to carry a mirror in your bag !!!!  Next week I’m trying  “nothing else metals” which is a gorgeous shade of lavender. Click the link to indulge! For a real trendy take wear a different metallic on each nail!

Super Cute! – Piggy Paint Nail Pens

In this series of beauty & personal care product finds – Super Cute! – I share with you products which have innovative, artistic, fantasy, child-like, vintage and/or retro themes and an “irresistible” quality to them! These make perfect little splurges and gifts for yourself or for the girly girl (or someone youthful in spirit!) in your life too.

These cute Piggy Paint Nail Polish Pens are not only easy to use for little (or big) hands, but they are also water based, free of toxic chemicals with a very low polish fumes.

First you need to pump the pen to get the polish flowing. Please note it will take a few minutes to get the polish flowing to the bottom of the pen before you can begin painting your nails.

Once that was done it was very easy for me (easier than with a brush actually) to polish my nails. 1 coat did a pretty good job of giving a opaque color, and two coats were even better. The finish is semi-glossy and top coat can also be applied for more staying power. The shades are a variety of easy to wear pinks, a purple, red and blue.

My favorites were the coral-red Sometimes Sweet and the ocean blue Tea Party for two. My little “sporty spice” loved these as well and did a great job painting her own nails since the strokes are similar to drawing. The polish dried very quickly (almost as soon as 1 hand is done it’s dry). This is perfect for little girls/tweens 6-12 who are just starting to get interested in makeup/nail color as they are as easy to apply as to remove – Piggy Paint also offers a convenient nail polish remover pen!

These of course are also great for us ladies who are young at heart, for travel and for those of you who want to quickly change/touch up polish before a night out at the office, etc. – RLB

Nail Polish Find – Butter London Primrose Hill Picnic

Oh, what a lovely pink this is! This Butter Londonshade Primrose Hill Picnic (which is also now included in the Spring 2012 Collection of new Lippy matching lip glosses!), is a medium/dark cross between fuchsia and hot pink. It reminds me of some of my favoritecolored Spring tulips.

I loved how this looked against my skin and I definitely recommend it for those of you sporting a tan and with darker brown skin. With base and two coats I got the exact pink in the bottle, with a smooth, easy application and no streaking.

Butter London has always been one of my favorite lines for years for their very creative, yet still flattering, nail shades and fantastic, long wearing formulas made without

The finish has a nice sheen, and adding top coat certainly kicks the finish up to a high shine.

This shade is perfect for spring/summer and beach-hopping pedicures too! – RLB
