OPI Goes Granite with Designer Series

  • posted August 29th, 2013

Crisp fall weather, falling leaves and campuses filled with majestic stone buildings made for higher learning.  Back to school season is in full effect.  This fall OPI adds DS Raw Granite to their designer series of nail lacquers.  The matte textured duo has two colors so far- DS Pewter and DS Lapis that each give mineral-like reflection to the nail.

OPI’s Designer Series Raw Granite projects a subtle sheen that works in perfectly with the rest of the Designer Series.  DS Pewter is a deep metallic silver ore that is perfect for keeping pace with this seasons punk-inspired looks.  DS Lapis is a gorgeously intense deep blue sapphire color that maintains that matte textured finish.  It’s a nice off-set to colorblocked cobalt blue looks or for pairing with the trending black and white contrast style that is here for the fall/winter duration.

Each DS Granite shade can be used without a top coat or with one for a different take on a matte finish.  They fit nicely in the 11 piece Designer Series collection and add a boost to any look this season.  They are available at professional salons, ULTA and ulta.com.

This Crayola Nail Polish Set is Too Cute to Pass Up!

  • posted July 1st, 2012

I don’t know if it’s the childhood memories they conjure, our inner kindergardener that just loves to color, or the fact that they’re just way easier to apply, but there’s something about crayon-inspired beauty products that are just way more fun than most other makeup items. From chubby lip pencils to fat eyeliner-shadow hybrids, and now these too-awesome-to-believe Crayola nail polishes, these color-happy crayon products are bringing out the kid in all of us! For only $12, this Crayola Mini Nail Polish Set, available at Fred Flare, gives you 8 mini polishes in some of our favorite crayon shades. The only thing that disappoints me about them is that the applicator isn’t actually crayon shaped (that would, in fact, completely blow my mind), but you still can’t help but appreciate them for their color pay-off and cuteness! While these are bound to conjure up some old-school childhood joy, try not to cause any lunchroom tiffs by making fellow adult coworkers and friends jealous – time-outs are a blast from a past that we’d rather not bring back!

Spidey Sense For Your Nails! OPI’s Upcoming Spider-Man Collection

Even if you’re not much of a comic book follower, or wouldn’t typically label your style “geek-chic,” it’s hard not to avoid all the buzz surrounding the upcoming Spider-Man reboot starring Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield. And even if you’d rather avoid the box office lines like the plague come opening weekend this summer, beauty mavens like us can still take advantage of all the hype from afar, courtesy of OPI’s new Spidey-inspired collection! Due out next month, the six-piece Amazing Spider-Man collection features a slew of both shimmery and matte shades in coordinating comic book influenced colors, plus a limited-edition Shatter shade called Shatter the Scales. Personally, I love the mix of peppy pinks and oranges with murky, moody, shimmery greens and blues, but when it comes to trend-setting nails for this season, I have to say the stark white lacquer (called My Boyfriend Scales Walls) takes the cake, surprisingly enough! What do you think, polish fans? Will you be snatching up these Spidey shades?

Mattese Elite’s Mafia-Themed Nail Polish: Cool or Criminal?

  • posted April 1st, 2012
  • Beauty

Aside from our ongoing love affair with nudes, neutrals, and “shades of greige,” we beauty mavens are fortunate enough to live in an especially adventurous day and age in which nearly anything goes when it comes to nail polish trends. When both new trends and resurrected favorites (welcome back crackle, magnetic, and neon polishes!) all have a place in the makeup trend spectrum, it can be tough for a lacquer collection to really come across as unique. Beauty brand Mattese Elite decided to force buyers to take notice the old-fashioned way: controversy. Their latest nail polish collection isn’t too over-the-top when it comes to the hues – slate and dove gray, navy, deep plum, and a pop of hot pink. However, with a name like Cosa Nostra, the collection also happens to pay homage to the mafia with cheeky color titles like Consigliere, Goomah Comare, Whack, and more, with marketing that features bullet holes and festive-hued splatter. While we appreciate cohesiveness and commitment to a theme, do you think this collection is a bit too controversial to be chic?

RGB + Tenoversix Combine Forces To Create a Polish For the Platinum Blonde

  • posted March 1st, 2012

Leave it to two kick-ass Los Angeles-based brands – RGB and Tenoversix – to join forces and create the ultimate trend-setting nail color, just for the platinum blondes (and the inner blonde in all of us, of course). The cutting-edge spring color, called Blonde on Blonde, takes cues from Hollywood’s favorite nude nail trend as well as new fashion-forward peach lacquer shades, and the result is an opaque shade that’s rich and milky but reads fresh and pinky on the hand, perfect for the season ahead. RGB is no stranger to chic collabos – the brand recently combined forces with celebrity nail artist Jenna Hipp for an awesome line of nail foundations – while Tenoversix’s Creative Director Kristen Lee is all about taking advantage of a killer partnership with the trendy polish brand to spread the platinum blonde pride with fellow RGB fans! What do you think – would you spend $16 on this limited-edition platinum shade, with or without having the roots to match?

We Love Accent Nails! 3 Polish Pairings You Must Try

  • posted March 1st, 2012
  • Beauty

I can’t take all the credit (or blame?) for my most recent nail polish obsession. In fact, when accent nails first became popular, I wasn’t really a fan at all – I was too attached to the beautiful uniformity of my regular/boring manicures (kind of a big deal since I only recently was able to grow my brittle nails to the same length)! However, I can’t deny that the statement-making look is really starting to grow on me, and when one of my equally style-obsessed friends recently showed me her fresh mint tips with a teal glitter accent nail, a new infatuation was born. After all, I am a sucker for glitter, especially accent glitter…. and what better way to embrace spring and summer than with a mermaid mani? Right – there is no better way, but I do have a couple other fabulous polish pairings that may also float your boat!

Nude and coral: neutral hues and “naked” nails have been the hot trend for a couple seasons now, so amp up the look with an accent nail in the second-hottest hue – coral! I love Deborah Lippmann’s Girls Just Want to Have Fun for the perfect vibrant coral, and the celebrity favorite HIPPxRGB collabo has a series of Nail Foundations so you can find your perfect nude shade!

Show your school pride! March Madness is fast approaching, so flash your colors (and impress your guy friends with your dedication) with a spirited polish duo. I chose blue and “gold” (maybe the Bruins will have better luck this year), courtesy of OPI’s The It Color and Orly’s Snowcone shade.

…And let’s not forget the mermaid look! My personal favorite, as far as the perfect mint shade is concerned, is China Glaze’s Refresh Mint. Paint all nails with the sea foam shade, then choose one accent nail to top with the glitter overlay, shown above in Milani Jewel FX in Teal.

Cobalt Polish Makes For Edgy Yet Sophisticated Nails!

  • posted March 1st, 2012
  • Beauty

Now that Spring has just about sprung (in the shopping world, that is!), celebrities and trend-setters are starting to ditch their winter reds, trendy nudes, and festive glitters for more adventurous hues. And this season, cobalt is having a major moment. It’s a bit more lively than navy, edgier than soft powder blue, and more sophisticated than electric blue, for the perfect mix of bold and chic. Beyonce has been spotted out and about rockin’ Nails Inc. best-selling shade Baker Street (a tribute to Blue Ivy, perhaps?), which is a great starter shade for those looking to venture into statement-making blue nails! For the perfect royal blue, I love American Apparel’s Mount Royal and OPI’s Dating a Royal for a pure, glitz-free cobalt shade. If you’re looking for something with a bit more shine, Essie’s Aruba Blue has a pretty metallic sheen, while Express’ Cerulean shade (part of a new-for-spring beauty collection!) has a superfine shimmer.

Butter London Spring/Summer 2012 Lacquer Collection

butter LONDON™ and Founding Creative Director Nonie Creme introduces the new Spring/Summer 2012 nail lacquer collection.

Says Creme, “What a season! Pops of neon colour everywhere, tempered by sherbet pastels and cool neutrals. It left us plenty to play with in the nail realm. I’ve mixed a couple of softer opaque shades in cantaloupe and pale pistachio, and followed up with an intense retro turquoise and slightly glittery hot pink. Finally, a quietly marvelous sheer oyster that packs a tiny punch with micro glitter particles for those seeking a new way to wear neutral. The message this season is KNOW who you are, then BE who you are! It’s all about the Individual this season, and the beauty world is yours to rule.”

The collection features five cool shades:

  • Bossy Boots- a light pistachio green
  • Disco Biscuit- tropical hot pink with glitter particles
  • Knacked- a sheer, oyster shade with micro-glitter particles
  • Slapper- a bold and bright teal shade
  • Trout Pout- Opaque shade of cantaloupe with retro feel.

Available at  www.butterlondon.com for $14 each
