These Fashionable Takes on the Varsity Jacket Are Head of Their Class!

Even if you weren’t much for school spirit back in your high school days, the latest stylish upgrades on the classic varsity jacket may inspire you to break out a pair of pom-pons! These aren’t the typical nylon, elbow-patched zip-ups that all the jocks and their cheerleader girlfriends were seen sporting around campus. Add updated on-trend details along with a slight touch of irony and whimsy, and lose the hall pass, and you’ve got yourself a modern fall staple that’s perfect for throwing on over anything from dresses to jeans and beyond. Polka dots add an undeniable feminine touch to the traditionally boyish silhouette of this Forever 21 jacket, while this Washborne denim jacket from Free People incorporates jock-inspired details to make a sweet fall take on the American classic. Love fall’s two-toned jacket trend? This Madewell Stadium Jacket fits right in with its leather sleeves and warm wool shell. No matter which take on the trend suits your fancy, these cozy-yet-cool jackets are definitely worth cheering about.

Bundle Up In The Latest Looks From Opening Ceremony For Adidas!

Just in time for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Opening Ceremony and Adidas Originals have joined forces to create a capsule collection of international-inspired looks that you can enjoy even after the weather cools down! The collaboration exhibits the perfect blend of sportiness and stylishness, from zippered skirts to halter tops and even Olympics-inspired jelly sandals, and the result of their joint forces is certainly extensive, but in my opinion, the most stand-out pieces of the collection are the funky jackets and printed ponchos. Aside from stand-out patterns and brilliant colors, these outerwear pieces are also undeniably practical, with their reversible and convertible silhouettes including zip-off sleeves, removable panels and hoods, and of course, pockets galore! Plus, they’re unisex, so be sure to grab a matching coat for your significant other to bundle up for next season (or not)! Check out the full collabo over on the Opening Ceremony official site!

Cold Weather Doesn’t Stand a Chance Against These Puffer Vests!

I remember when puffer vests were really big in my middle school years. I wore those things like they were going out of style… probably because they were. But like most fads, what once was old is new yet again, and sure enough – fifteen years later – the puffer vest has re-emerged has a must-have in the fashion world as well as the snowboarding slopes. These modern takes on the sporty vest fit so seamlessly with our winter wardrobe because they have that utilitarian vibe without being overly functional. Don’t get me wrong – these down-stuffed little numbers are definitely cozy, but with a more lightweight feel comes easier layering potential, and more fashion freedom to incorporate these vests into your outfit without overpowering the rest of your look. After all, if you’ve ever owned a puffy coat or vest, you know how easy it can be to drown in all the comfy puffiness… or look like an astronaut, thanks to the metallic silver vest my mom made rock in 5th grade. So my only advice is to be mindful of bulk when it comes to shopping for the perfect warm layering piece for winter!

Channel Some Old Hollywood Glamour in a Fabulous Faux Mink Coat

If you’ve previously used Halloween as an excuse to channel the retro red carpet stylings of Old Hollywood – you know, the slinky sparkly dress, long layered pearls, finger waves, glossy red lips, and the luxe mink coat – you’re in luck! Not only because Halloween is here, but because the fashion world’s fascination with faux fur has evolved from vests to full-on coats! Just in time for the holiday season, outerwear is getting a dash of glamour with fluffy faux mink. And despite the statement-making style, it’s surprisingly versatile; layer over your regular duds to add some sophistication to your Casual Friday ensemble, or sass up your new party dress with a sexy coat that finally can hold its own against your most glamorous party frocks without upstaging them. It’s got plenty of ‘tude when necessary – like a super-cool groupie who’s run off with her favorite rockstar’s fur coat – but can be ultra-glam too to suit the occasion! And aside from the obvious benefit of faux fur, it also won’t break the bank like real fur! What’s not to love?

It’s high school Homecoming season, and if you’ve been too busy stalking your former classmates on Facebook to pay attention to the newest trends, you may be surprised at what’s hot for the winter season ahead! Letterman jackets, also known as varsity jackets, are making a big comeback with chic designer versions that put an upscale spin on the classic oversized style. Even if you’re long past your school days – no matter how hard you try convincing others that it wasn’t that long ago – you can still rock this classmate-inspired trend, and without resurrecting bad memories of your sophomore year yearbook photo, for that matter! Relive your days as head of the class with the varsity quarterback’s jacket draped around your shoulders… or show exactly how hot you would have looked rockin’ the basketball star’s jacket, if he had been smart enough to give you a second look! Whether warm and woolly or leather-paneled and sleek, you’re bound to find a version you love that’s too cool for school!

Keep Warm This Winter in a Cozy-Chic Cable-Knit Poncho

Given this upcoming winter season’s obsession with voluminous outerwear and cozy over-sized sweaters, I can’t decide if the reigning attitude towards sleeves is that they’re overrated, or need to be as big and flowy (and comfy!) as possible. Either way, despite what you may have learned in the past about avoiding shapeless pieces, it’s time to finally embrace the ultra-comfortable with cable-knit ponchos that are ready to take any of your fall-ready outfits and transition them for a toasty winter – just by throwing on one of these cozy outer layers. The beauty of the poncho is that its chunky knit keeps you warm and has that comforting sense of familiarity, but it somehow seems to exude a sort of effortless edginess and fashion-forwardness that just doesn’t come across with a more structured blazer or classic cardigan sweater. Top off a sleek dress and tights with a poncho for the ultimate way to warm up your walk outdoors, or throw on over a pair of leggings and riding boots for a casual-cool look for any day!
