Cheryl Shops Fall Shopping Guide: Over-the-Knee Boots

With hemlines showing no signs of lowering and designers even embracing the scary no-pants look, there is only one rational solution: over-the-knee boots. I’ve already seen several pairs out and about in the streets of NYC, and while there are many options out there, the boots I’m after are the ones closer to styles seen on the runway. My criteria: They must have a heel, they must hit above the top of the kneecap, and they must be fitted around the top (no notches or angled cuffs). Of course, this is not a look for everyone; long, thin, toned legs are a plus. But with a well-constructed pair that fits properly, you can at least create that illusion.

These Sigerson Morrison boots are suede, which does not reflect light like leather does, and that, coupled with the fact that they have stretch, make them perfect for those with thicker legs. (If, like me, you have bony ankles, stay away.) The elastic around the top will keep them in place, and the three-inch heel is definitely manageable.

These Contente boots by Christian Louboutin are definitely an investment, but they’re so well engineered, they don’t even need zippers, stretch, or any whistles and bells to stay up. They also get bonus points for coming up the highest of any pair featured here, making them perfect for wearing with even your shortest dress.

I was looking for some over-the-knee boots to wear with leggings and a chunky knit sweater this winter. Over-the-knee styles are a fabulous way to update your winter wardrobe. Choose from platform, wedge and flat style over-the-knee boots. My preference would be the flat styles. They add the perfect dash of practicality to the boot and look great as a casual winter wear during the snowiest of days.

Indulge your inner Robin Hood with these Jimmy Choo “Yam” over-the-knee leather boots. These beauties are covered in a black shimmery leather with a rabbit lining. They may very well be some of the most extravagant boots you’ll come across this winter.  An adjustable leather tab and silver tone buckle are used to adjust the boot for a snug fit. These are definitely a step up from your comfy pair of tried and true shearling lined boots.

Embellish Your Wardrobe with Emerald for Fall

As I perused my stack of fashion magazines on a recent trip to the beach I noticed that one color in particular was being displayed quite often no matter which style tome I thumbed through- green, particularly the dark emerald green variety.

That deep, luscious green which always has a satin-like quality to it appears everywhere this fall.  From crocodile handbags, over the knee boots, blouses, skirts and jewelry – green is the way to go this fall.  It goes great with grey, black, strong blues and even a vibrant yellow.

If Emerald green is not your for you, bright green is also hot this year.  Think the garden grass variety.  It’s being stocked in almost every store from the big box discount shops to your high end department stores and everywhere in between.  So even if your wallet has less green in it, or you simply thought you could give up being in the know now that you have two point five kids in tow, fear not going green is the way to go.
