2014 Prom Fashion Guide

Prom, one of the biggest events for soon-to be-adults as they finish high school, is quickly approaching. For those stressing about what to wear, not to worry – we’ve compiled some of the latest Prom fashion trends to help young ladies look their best on the big day:

–       Dramatic Lace: Lace will give your Prom style a bit of elegance, grace and femininity. In this new trend, lace is becoming a striking feature rather than just a small accent.

–       Mint & Nude Pink: Bright colors are more common, so light pastel colors like nude pink and mint will make you stand out. These pastels have been popular in high-end fashion, so wearing them will not only set you apart from the crowd but also show you are up to date with the latest styles.

–       High Slit: A high slit dress is always flattering and will give you a mature and sophisticated style.

–       Sheer Illusion: Almost every designer has incorporated an alluring, sheer illusion design in their new collections. Look for it in styles such as exposed necklines and sheer bodices.

–       High-Low Dresses: While the high-low dress style has been around for years, it is still trendy for the coming season and a great way to show off some leg while keeping a classy, glamorous style.

–       Short Skirts with Sheer Overlay: A sheer overlay with a short skirt combines the flattering high-low style with sheer illusion designs for a highly fashionable combo. The style provides a modern and elegant look that highlights your legs.

If your date still doesn’t know what to wear either, be sure to check out TheFind’s blog post on men’s prom attire.

Prom Trend Report 2012: Long Lengths & Bold Brights!

Way back in the day, when I was in the market for my own prom dress (okay, so maybe it wasn’t that long ago), less was definitely more. I remember that short dresses were the way to go – as short as our fairly lax public school dress code would allow – and the few girls who dared to wear long dresses were either Renaissance Fair enthusiasts or just not well-informed with the trends of the time. In short, most of my fellow classmates seemed to toe the line between flirty and full-on Vegas showgirl. But this season, prom season is taking a decidedly more glamorous approach, with a festive trend forecast that promises lots of long (we’re talkin’ floor-length!) streamlined gowns, bright colors, and even vivid patterns to make sure Prom 2012 isn’t an occasion you’ll soon forget! If you’re set on standing out on your last big ‘hurrah’ of the school year, this colorful beaded Night Moves gown is a favorite among the fabulous! It’s got just the right amount of glitz, movement, and of course, takes full advantage of Spring’s obsession with highly-saturated shades. If you’re a bit more color-shy but still want to look fashionably festive, this Sherri Hill dress is sweet yet sophisticated, and comes in 7 different shades! And if you’re a lover of all things glitzy like I am, this floor-length Sherri Hill dress boasts plenty of sparkle, but still looks sleek with its fitted silhouette! Gifts for Prom (For Her AND Him)

Back in the day when I went to prom, guys and girls would typically buy corsages and boutonnieres for one another. While that’s still in practice today, it seems that many couples buy gifts for one another as well. I think that giving a gift for prom would be more appropriate for a couple that’s been dating for a while, but perhaps I’m wrong. Is it the norm to give a gift to your date if you’re not "together?" Please comment if you have more info.

In the meantime, I’ll go on to showcase some nice gift ideas for prom…

So there you have it. Some fun ideas for your sweetheart to use during and after prom. If you have any other ideas, please share them. If I get enough ideas submitted, I’ll write about them and give you credit.

Prom Night — What to Wear for Guys

Okay, so I’m done blogging about prom styles for girls. Now it’s time to focus on what guys should wear! This subject was requested by one of our faithful readers. Enjoy!

You might assume that since you’re going to prom that you should run out and rent a tuxedo, right? While that is a viable option, it’s not your only option. Furthermore, if you do rent a tux, you can always dress it up and individualize it to your personal taste.Convers_2

First, kick off the ultra formal shiny shoes and replace them with your favorite Chuck Taylor Converse sneakers! To be safe, I suggest that you double check with your date before making such a bold move. There are pictures involved, afterall.

Pink_cuffs_2
Second, find some cool cuff links to embellish your cuffs. Go for a little bling, if you like or find a cool geometric shapes or a color that matches your date’s dress. Cuff links can be as fun as you’d like and you don’t have to get pre-approval from your date. They won’t show up for the pictures, so your creative flair is safe for the up close and personal shots.

Pink_tie_1 Third, lose the stuffy little bow tie. Would you ever wear one of these in your life otherwise? I don’t think so. It’s part of the tux, so you wear it, right? Anyway, you’re free to wear a silk tie of your choice — you can have fun here guys! If you hate ties, cut loose and go without. Yep, that’s what I said…go without a tie. Leave the top button or two open (don’t go too low, it’s not the ’70s) for a more relaxed look.

Finally, with your tux you have choices for a cummer bund or a vest. Either are perfectly acceptable. Choose one that matches and/or complements your date’s dress and your tie and you’re good to go!

Suit_1 If you decide to abandon the whole tux idea, it is perfectly acceptable to wear a traditional suit to prom. In fact, you have a lot more options if you go this route. Besides that, you’ll be out of high school soon so you can’t go wrong purchasing a suit. You’ll probably need one for interviews (school and job), public affairs, and dates. So why not invest the money now?!?

You can apply any of the alterations I mentioned above for a tux to a suit. Now you’re all set to customize your outfit to your liking. If you have questions, leave a comment here. I’ll be happy to help!

Socks for Prom?!?

I thought I was done blogging about prom stuff, but apparently I have one more thing share. Who knew that blogging about prom could be so much fun?!?

I was thinking back to my prom and how much fun it was and I have a vivid memory of piles of shoes everywhere. I’m pretty sure they were all women’s shoes, if my memory serves me correctly. If you’re lucky enough to score a pair of shoes that are comfy enough to walk in, dance in and look cute then you’re in luck! Of course, you probably won’t know that until the night of prom. As a side note, I do suggest that you wear your shoes around the house for a few weeks prior AND go outside and scuff the soles to help prevent slipping.

Anyway, back to the shoes (or lack there of)…I remember wishing that I had brought a pair of socks to run around in at prom. I was wearing nylons and the floor was dirty and it was kind of gross. So, if you plan ahead and pack a pair of socks to take with you, you should be all set. Words of wisdom from a former prom-goer. LOL

If you’re going to wear socks at prom, they may as well be fun one s. Here are few funky ideas!

Cute Handbags for Prom!

Toptypes_and_topstyles_2
Okay, so you should have some ideas on where to find beautiful prom dresses, but how about handbags to go with them? Hmmm…yet another challenge in the preparation for prom! While it’s true, there are a lot of handbags to choose from (like most things in life), there are only a few that would be appropriate for prom. I’ll help you get started in your search for the perfect handbag!

Louis Vuitton Handbags in general are a sure bet with most girls/women. Are they right for prom? That’s entirely up to you, of course!

As you’ll see if you check out the link above, there are many types and styles of Louis Vuitton handbags (the same goes for just about anything fashion related on TheFind). To narrow your search, you can choose a specific type or style that you want. For Louis Vuitton, the styles and types look like the picture to the right. On the site, you’ll also find these choices to the right of the search results.

Okay, so now that you know how to work the filters, I’ll go back to showing you some cute Louis Vuitton handbags that you might want to carry at prom. :o)

How about Dolce Gabbana Handbag instead?

Or, perhaps you’d prefer a Prada Handbag?

If you want a brand name bag that’s more reasonably priced, Coach Handbags are great!

The Beaded Evening Bags are my favorite!

Prom Night — What to Wear

  • posted February 28th, 2007
  • Fashion

By now, most of the buzz from the Oscars has died down. We all know
who was there and who wasn’t. Who wore hot dresses and who should’ve stayed
home (or at least consulted her best friend prior to the event). We also know
that the color selection was pretty dismal at the Oscars. I have faith that
there will be an abundant array of dress colors at proms everywhere this year.
It’s a fabulous year to go to prom! The designers have really outdone
themselves with styles and colors. So, which are your favorites? There are so
many to choose from; it can be overwhelming!

While I won’t be going to any proms this year, I can certainly show you some prom dresses that are sure to be winners!

Jovani Prom Dresses are HOT! Jovani was voted Prom Designer of the Year!

Tiffany Prom Dresses are to die for (not literally, but you know what I mean).

This is just a splash in the bucket in terms of the styles and colors that are available this year. It’s really incredible! Search around and find what’s right for you. Your prom pictures are ones that will stay with you forever, so make sure you have a fabulous dress that will make photo memories ones that you’ll cherish everytime you look at them.
