5 Cozy-Chic Winter Essentials to Kick-Start the New Year!

Let’s face it – while it’s great to set goals for yourself, what’s the point of making a long list of new year’s resolutions you already know you won’t stick to? Instead, begin 2012 by stocking up on everything you need to survive the cold start of the year as comfortably and stylishly as possible. After all, it’s a lot easier to be productive when you feel cozy and look fabulous at the same time (or maybe that’s just the way I justify my regular shopping sprees)! To start, equip yourself with a classic sweater dress to take you through the season, like this

, whether you’re slaving away at work or grabbing drinks at happy hour. Puffer jackets are the perfect way to stay warm through the winter – choose a belted version like this

to help define your feminine figure despite the added bulk! A chunky cable knit scarf is a must – this Wyatt grey wool-cashmere cable knit snood will keep you cozy no matter how low the temperatures drop – and these Stella McCartney ankle boots, they’re one fierce pair of must-have heels! Lastly, add a little glam to your cozy look with a practical bag with plenty of shine – this Rebecca Minkoff studded hobo is the perfect mix of functional and fashionable!

Surprisingly Stylish Takes on the Puffer Coat!

The new year may have us surrounded by spring catalogs and wardrobe must-haves that have us looking forward to the warmer weather months ahead, but let’s face it — it’s still freakin’ cold. So before you get ahead of yourself and start stocking up for the springtime, don’t forget to make sure you’re prepared to bear the bitter chill of the last half of winter! One of this season’s cold-weather staples has been the puffer coat — but to be quite honest, I was never much of a fan. Don’t get me wrong — I understand the need to stay warm, but the whole puffy shapeless look never did much for my curvy figure. That’s why I’ve scoured the cyber-racks for some more stylish takes on the puffer coat — sleek and cropped, belted (yes!), feminine and quilted, and even moto-inspired — for a trendier take on the look that keeps you warm without sacrificing style. After all, unless you’re spending the day in a blizzard, there’s no excuse for an unflattering winter ensemble!
