Cheryl Shops Spring Shopping Guide: Colorblock Sandals

As you may have guessed by now, I own a lot of shoes. So many, in fact, that it’s hard for me to justify buying a neutral pair—or maybe, conversely, it’s easier for me to justify buying a non-neutral pair. That said, I do find that a brightly colored pair of shoes can really perk up your outfit, adding an unexpected element of fun. And while I’m now at the point where I own lots of shoes in bright colors, lo and behold, this season there are all manner of colorblocked shoes, combining two or more bright colors! It’s like a whole new world of possibilities has opened up, footwear-wise.

$$$
Stella McCartney’s shoes are so fabulous, you almost forget they’re not made of leather. This colorblock sandal combines hot-pink satin with a sexy red acrylic heel, a surprising twist on the stripper heel. Whatever level of discomfort it might appear to have is softened by that pillowy quilted lining.

Speaking of stripper heels, these Brian Atwood Bellini sandals are named after my favorite brunch drink and boast a tricky 5.5-inch heel. The key, however, is a thick 2-inch platform, which, net, makes them a totally walkable 3.5 inches. Also, how adorable and springy are the colors?

Giuseppe Zanotti holds a special place in my heart, in that he made my wedding shoes. And while the last two pairs have a slightly tarty vibe, these suede colorblock shoes are more ladylike—well, until you get to the 6-inch stiletto.

Call me crazy, but even though these Stuart Weitzman sandals have a big red platform sole, there’s something kind of neutral about them—maybe you can’t wear them with other colors, but think how many things in your closet you can wear with them.

What prevents these United Nude geisha sandals from veering too far into crazytown is the strip of neutral tan woven in with the wide orange strap and purple sole. Admit it: Your inner 7-year-old loves them.

Diane von Furstenberg’s Elan sandals are one of my favorite pair of the bunch—yes, you can go with an all-black or all-white pair, but the nude and lime-green combo strikes the perfect balance between neutral and wild. Also, a great argument against those who think wedges aren’t sexy.

$
Crazy name aside, these Steve Madden Wimzikul wedges are indeed…whimsical…and I like that they come in three different color combos.

With a groovy ’70s vibe and a not-too-crazy color scheme, not to mention a totally non-committal price, these Pierre Dumas sandals are pretty much a no-brainer, especially if you’re apprehensive about trying the trend. Also, if you’re into it, they’re “vegan” (i.e. synthetic).

For slightly more of an investment, however, these colorblock sandals from the Limited are a pretty smart choice. The neutral stacked heel and leather keeps them on the sophisticated side, but a pop of color at the ankle makes things interesting.

Current Elliott’s Work-Shirt in Pier Looks Great With Jeffrey Campbell’s Tonic Sandals

We all have our fashion favorite comfy work-shirt that we love wearing especially on the weekends. Current Elliott’s latest work-shirt as seen on Rihanna is just the one you need to look cute, sexy (if you wear it unbuttoned!) and comfy. The Current Elliott Perfect Shirt in Pier features a button-down collared denim shirt with buttoned patch pockets at front and epaulet detail on the shoulders. It’s 100% Cotton and made in the USA.(Yay!) We own so many pairs of CE jeans and can attest to how comfortable their clothes are. The CE Snap Love jean jacket is also fabulous! (be sure to size down so it’s nice and fitted)

We love how Rihanna is wearing the shirt although most of us will need a tank under it.The shirt looks great paired with jeans, cutoff shorts (Current/Elliott The Girlfriend Short in Grey Cloud), white skinny jeans, floral jeans or a flowered skirt. We’d pair with a fabulous pair of Jeffrey Campbell Tonic Sandals or Jeffrey Campbell’s Malta Sneaker in Fuchsia Neon and you’re set to walk out the door looking ever so cool! Click the link to indulge Current Elliott and Jeffrey Campbell and be sure to view the collections.

Spring Sandal Obsession: Sam Edelman ‘Yelena’ Heels

I’ll admit it – when it comes to sandals, especially strappy heels and sexy wedges – I’m a bit of a Sam Edelman addict. He never fails to provide edgy takes on the latest trends, as well as sophisticated and wearable day-to-day sandals that are comfortable yet still look and feel “special.” As if I didn’t buy enough pairs last spring season, Sam Edelman’s new 2012 spring and summer fare have me convinced that I need a few more additions to my sandal collection. The top priority pair on my list are the ‘Yelena’ sandals, which come in three tempting color combos: nude with metallic silver or hot coral, and deep tan with bronze. I may already have plenty of strappy nude wedges, but this season’s updated takes on the barely-there hue are undeniably fierce. I love the metallic-and-nude combo, as well as the neon-and-nude contrast, for a fun yet sexy summer replacement for your tried-and-true neutral pumps! At $140, my stubborn wallet wants me to hold out for a sale, but I can’t promise I’ll be able to behave long before I splurge full-price for the sake of the perfect summer heel!

Spring Sandals Get Even Sassier with Printed Platforms

Given the fashion’s love affair with chunky, funky platform soles, as well as their fearlessness when it comes to fanciful prints, I’m stumped as to why printed platforms haven’t hit it big as a leading trend until recently! Whatever the reason for their delay, patterned platforms are here and they’re fabulous, using their large surface area as an advantage… to more easily show off the season’s sexiest prints, of course! If animal prints suit your fancy, these sky-high snake-soled Angeline wedges by Tory Burch go with almost everything given their neutral color palette, while these leopard-soled Nine West shoes put a sultry spin on the classic cork wedge. Polka dots are also huge for spring, so try these cutesy Loeffler Randall Chloe platforms on for size. And of course, the season wouldn’t be complete without a healthy dose of floral prints, so be sure to check out these River Island platforms, or the more tropical-inspired Bali wedges from Theodora & Callum!

In These Shoes: Loeffler Randall Natane Sandals

Back in my personal wish-list entry in my holiday gift guide, I featured Loeffler Randall’s crushed blue velvet Natane lace-up stilettos, noting that I was watching them like a hawk in case they went on sale. Saks.com marked them down the day after Christmas, but, alas, by the time I got to them, only size 10 was left (and those are long gone now). After I finished mending my broken heart, I came across the next best thing. They might not be blue velvet, but the metallic lizard version is the silver, er, gold lining in the cloud. They are still available on Loeffler Randall’s website and, even better, are on sale, although still on the pricey side, at $313. Still, have you seen a pair of shoes that so deftly toe the line between glamorous and edgy? And in spite of the 105mm heel (about 4 inches), I’ll bet that, like every other pair of Loeffler Randall shoes I own, they’re quite comfortable. While I’m going to keep my eyes peeled for another markdown, if these babies are still around by my birthday, I think I might have found my present to myself.

Clunkers! The New Shoe Trend for Spring?

I don’t know your thoughts on the latest trend…chunky heels. Although becoming verypopular I see nothing appealing about these designs beginning with: Chloe’s Two Tone Sandal, Chloe’s Black Sandal, Miu’s Miu’s Black Suede Boot, Stella’s Beige Patent Low Heeland Marni’s Mary Jane. I’m not sure what inspired these designs. These hot new heels are unsexy and totally unflattering to the leg. Many remind me of my highschool math teacher who had piano stools for legs and wore fat clunky heels. I don’t want to be reminded of her or of math class! I love trendy but this is a trend I will not be following. Just because something is “the latest” doesn’t mean we need to follow it. These heels will be on sale racks fairly soon. If you must indulge…just buy one pair as the trend will be long gone. (thanks to my math teacher) Click the green link to indulge. I’m sticking with my sexy stilettos!

Get a Head-Start on Spring with Clog-Inspired Sandals

I don’t know about where you’re located, but this bitter early January weather makes it hard for me to even contemplate the concept of sandals. However, fashion is all about looking forward to the upcoming season’s hottest trends (so we shoppers can stock up ahead of time, of course!), so it’s officially time to suck it up and get excited for what warmer weather has in store. Last summer, we couldn’t get enough of clunky clog-inspired sandals, and luckily the fad doesn’t seem to be fading anytime soon! If you didn’t get a chance to jump on the trend the first time around, now’s your chance to try your hand at the unexpected style. They’re great because they’re versatile enough to dress down and wear with jeans, but at the same time are sexy enough to wear with your favorite summer dress or flirty skirt. Plus, considering the trend has already withstood a year of popularity in the style world, they could become your new sandal staple!

These Patent Platform Wedges Have Us Feeling Daytime Disco Fever!

  • posted October 29th, 2011

The bad news is: the summer of sexy sky-high wedge sandals is officially over as we embrace chilly fall. The good news is: you don’t have to give up your favorite trend just because the weather forecast (and everything you know about seasonal fashion fare) says so! Clunky, chunky, funky wedges are getting a fall update with dark tones, closed toes, and even structural heels that you can rock with your favorite fall trousers, cords, or (if you’re daring) even tights!  For example, these Robert Clergerie “Olympy” sandals from Barneys have trendy color-blocking and criss-crossing straps for a bad-ass fall look. These Sergio Zelcer “Cata” Wedge Sandals are extra high (and extra fierce!) with a shiny patent finish and cool cut-out details for plenty of visual interest. And don’t forget these T-Strap “Maggie” Sandals with a staircase-inspired structural heel, which puts a new spin on the super-high wedge!

Look For Less: Nicholas Kirkwood Lace Platform Sandals For a Steal!

Above all long-running trends that have a knack of being updated and modified to suit the passing seasons, lace is one fad that shows no signs of stopping any time soon! And aside from taking over casual tees, dresses, cardigans, and even leggings, lace is also prevalent on summer’s sexiest sandals, proving that leaving a little to the imagination with sheer paneling and peek-a-boo cut-outs can sometimes be even sultrier than strappy heels! But why spend a month’s rent on a designer pair of on-trend lace platforms when you can opt for an identical pair for a miniscule fraction of the cost? Nicholas Kirkwood’s Lace-Up Platform Sandals (pictured left) retail for a whopping $1,195 while their almost-indistinguishable GoJane counterparts cost a mere $32.50. Now there’s a price difference worth considering! Of course, it also bring forth the subject of fashion morality – despite the killer price, exactly how similar is too similar, and exactly what is your stance on blatant style knockoffs? What say you – would you be willing to shell out the big bucks for the real deal, or spare yourself the $1,160?
