Christian Siriano and Dolce & Gabbana both went absolutely nuts this season with the crazy shoes – not just heading upward, but outward and in every other direction, too.  Basically if you’ve ever wanted to go all-out and pimp your footwear choices the maximum possible level, now’s your chance.

These  Guiseppe Zantotti Swarovski-embellished sandals have a million things going on at once and they’re eye-catching.  Yes, these shoes are over the top, but why not take a risk and go all out. But at $1,150 you may have to think twice!

Would you wear these shoes? Let us know in comments!

The Dirt On Flip Flops + Stylish Flip Flop Alternatives

Last year, we reported that flip flops can be bad for your feet, now there are reports that they can actually be bad for your health. New studies reveal that thousands of gross and even deadly bacteria may be lurking at this very moment on your favorite flip flops. Ew. If that isn’t enough to make you think twice about slipping on your summer favorites, we don’t know what is.

What to do about it? You can clean your feet and flip flops with alcohol or antibacterial wash at the end of the day and avoid touching your feet or wearing them around your home. Or, you can opt for a summer shoe that offers a bit more coverage and protection from the grimy stuff lurking on city streets. Here are some stylish alternatives to your beloved flip flops and bare sandals:

Summer’s Most Coveted Summer Sandals on Sale

flat-sandals-on-sale

The summer shoe sale season is in full swing although there are at least two and a half more months of summer to go. And for many lucky inhabitants of warmer climates summer lasts all year long. Now is the time to stock up on pretty flat sandals that you can wear for the rest of the summer or save to wear on your wintertime beach resort holiday. I always get a thrill out of saving a new pair of gorgeous sandals for a winter escape to a tropical island paradise.  Flat summer sandals aren’t as heavy duty as winter boots and most likely won’t last more than a season, so buying on sale is a smart move. The range of styles and prices runs from under $25 up to $300 or so, but still you’re saving almost 50% off the original price. Some of my favorite sandals are these gorgeous gold metallic Christian Louboutin “Maigrissima” flat sandals and the Jimmy Choo Desert Brushed Leather sandal is a knockout as well. You can’t go wrong for $25 bucks for the Gap jeweled t-strap as well!

Summer Sandal Style Must from Bernardo Footwear

must_vintage_metal_pewter_vogue_ad

As I roam the streets here in NYC this summer, my gaze is constantly drawn downwards to fashionable gals’ feet, where the sparkle of a rhinestone or glint of metallic leather straps never fail to catch my eye! The popularity of the gladiator seems to have been surpassed by these flat, strappy, sparkly sandals that I can only describe as “evening casual”. So off I went to find my perfect pair — online, of course. This pair, Style Must, from Bernardo, are classic enough to outlive this trend, and with just enough metallic sheen to dress up a short summer dress, or jeans. And stand out from the sparkly masses, in a good way. They’re $99.00 from Bernardo Footwear.

Sandals to Tie For

tia-sandal
You’re a free bird, a girl that likes her options. But constantly changing your look means finding enough shoes to match, and that can be tiring, not to mention expensive. This summer, try Tia’s Freestyle Sandals for all your footwear needs – just one sandal base gives limitless possibility!

Each vegetable-tanned leather base comes bare, ready for you to select the interchangeable top straps of your choice – stick to choosing from the vintage silk straps made from recycled saris until the cotton straps are produced organically (the sari straps have brighter, more interesting colors anyway). Or, make your own out of old clothing you have at home! With four different how-to videos explaining the different ways to tie up, you’ll be able to change from greek goddess to gladiator in minutes.

Sandal bases are $54 and top straps are $12.

Surf’s Up – The Ultimate So Cal Flip Flop

rainbowflipflops_

I’m going to be going down to LA to visit some friends, so I was preparing for my trip with a little LA-themed retail therapy. First stop: Rainbows. Now, I lived in LA as a kid and went to college there, too so I can attest to the fact that it has an interesting style dynamic. To a certain extent it’s all about the look – what you’re wearing, how it’s put together, is it bold enough, hip enough, creative enough, but not too creative? The interesting twist is that Angelinos LOVE their flip flops.

But not just any flip flops. No, you’ve gotta have Rainbow flip flops. They’re the quintissential beach sandal, the ultimate accessory and they’re supposed to last forever which would justify their price tag. I’ve known about them since college when friends raved and RAVED about them, but had yet to try them, so I figured this would be my forray into the LA flip flop culture.

All Ruffled Up: Ultra-Girly Summer Looks

While edgy, “boyfriend,” and boho-chic looks may be super trendy at the moment, sometimes a girl just wants to look girly! There’s no better way to accomplish this than with ruffles. Ruffles can be super flattering when placed correctly. If you’re flat chested, a ruffled top will add some extra oomph. A ruffled skirt or dress can also emphasize or give the appearance of curves on your bottom half. Ruffled shoulders can also make arms appear slimmer. Here are some ultra feminine yet chic summer looks that incorporate ruffles:

1. Wear it to work or a job interview:
