LA Fashion Week—Cerre’s Cool Collective

2009_10_21_cerre
A hand-cut leather jacket from Cerre fall/winter 2009

For spring/summer 2010, Cerre opted to show a series of short films at its Hollywood store at 1647 North Las Palmas, culling together one of the most stylish groups of attendees I’ve seen thus far during LA Fashion Week (or rather, month). The dim-lit ambiance set an appealing mood, but, unfortunately, was not great for photos. I recommend going to the boutique to check out designers Flavie and Clayton Webster’s collection for yourself, where fall/winter 2009 and spring/summer 2010 were both out for the seeing and feeling.

Pieces are meticulously constructed (check the gorgeous leather jacket with hand-cut back above) with interesting fabric combinations (for instance, leather and mesh on a skirt, adding a hint of transparency). Prices reflect the high-end materials and small-run production, exclusive to a few shops in the US, Europe and Asia. Very lovely.

Spring 2010: Why Everyone Loves Stella Mccartney

The reviews for Stella McCartney’s Spring 2010 collection are in and they appear to be unanimously positive. Although there were plenty of standouts, Stella’s spring collection was far less assertive than fall. There were neutrals, a Stella staple, but also vibrant colors like royal blue, fuchsia and orange. “Classic Stella” pieces were evident throughout in the oversized blazers, little dresses and masculine/feminine combinations, but she gave them a fresh spin this season through feminine tailoring and touches like ruffles. Skinny leg pants were notably absent but there were plenty of things one could wear with them. A few vintage-feeling denim pieces including a jumper, a short skirt and maxi-skirt added to the subtle seventies vibe of the show. I’ve been wearing Stella since her Chloe days and I love how over the years she has shown so many different sides of her design personality while staying true to her overall aesthetic – designing clothes that woman will want to wear over and over again. Spring 2010: Balenciaga

Balenciaga03

Balenciaga is on my short list of favorite designers, however in seasons past he has produced few items I can actually wear in my life. Sure there are the occasional leather jackets (love!) and cool skinny black trousers, but also a lot of architectural dresses. I just can’t justify plunking down three grand for a dress I’d wear only once, if ever (I’m practical that way). For Spring 2010, Balenciaga shows chic, edgy futuristic designs that I can easily see incorporated into my wardrobe. The shapes, the cut outs,  the techno fabrics, the amazing footwear – I really loved it all. Check out the collection at Style.com

Behind The Makeup: Vera Wang Spring 2010 Show

lucia 1lucia 2lucia 3

Lucia Pieroni, Color Creator for Clé de Peau Beauté, created her own approach to Vera Wang’s Spring 2010 show by developing a boy-like, simple face to each model walking down the runway. The look catered to the collection clothing and bold jewelry.

“I wanted the models to appear cool and very natural, so I created a super sheer base on the face with eye accents only, of taupe and silver.” Lucia says. “I wanted them to look healthy, but a bit supernatural.”

For the face: Lucia began with NEW! Luminizing Enhancer Base ($42) to even out skin tone and create a luminous complexion. Next, she used the Refining Fluid Foundation ($118) for an even, flawless, and radiant finish.

For the brows: Eyebrow pencil in #104/Grey for a fuller and more clean look ($55)

For the eyes: To brighten eyes, Lucia used NEW! Satin Eye Color in #11/Silver ($45), with a touch of #111/taupe to the outer corners for added definition. She also utilized Satin Eye Color in #104/Golden to highlight brow bone and to the top of the cheek to add ethereal glow.

For the lips: Lastly, Lucia used NEW! Extra Rich Lipstick in T4 ($65), a nude shade inspired by tea roses to compliment the face without drawing attention.

Lucia uses products to enhance rather than to conceal and creates breathtaking images, with a 21st century twist! She is well-known in Britain and a favorite amongst renowned photographers such as Glen Luchford, Paola Reversi, Craig McDean, and David Sims. Her talents has shined in several top fashion magazines which solidifies her as one of the premier makeup artist in the world. She became the creator for Clé de Peau Beauté in 2005.

The NEW Clé de Peau Beauté Spring 2010 collection will launch March 2010 at Bergdorf Goodman and select Barney’s, Neiman Marcus and Saks locations nationwide.

The blues, the aquas, the flow, the ruffles! Just pure chic! Also of note were the gunmetal shimmer dresses -to die for!

Twinkle by Wenlan

Bla k and white geometry seemed to be the theme of the day for many designers, but  Twinkle by Wenlan certainly brought a fresh approach to the classic combination, with a colleciton based upon “the spirit of Yoko Ono with the attitude of Blondie.” She executed great little details like tiny centered bows perfectly placed down the back of a blouse.

Custo Barcelona
The Spring 2010 collection was a mosaic of textures and vibrant colors, flowing capes and long fringe, patterns, and playful motifs. I have to say, if I were a man I’m not sure I would be daring enough to wear those loud patterned blazers, but in the context of a fashion show they looked stunning. Many of the ladies’ outfits were sleeveless with elaborate chokers attached to the bodice. I’ll let the photos do the rest of the talking. More from Custo Barcelona from Cheryl Shops here…

Toni Maticevski Spring 2010

Perhaps because he’s based in Australia and doesn’t have a strong retail presence here, Toni Maticevski tends to fly under the radar in the U.S. But considering how breathtakingly beautiful his runway looks are, I’m honestly surprised that more fashion-forward celebs don’t choose his designs for the red carpet. His latest collection was a meditation on death and decay, but also of the life that springs forth from it. More Toni Maticevski from Cheryl Shops here…

Karen Sabag Spring 2010
The show featured bridal and evening gown couture created by the Israeli designer, set to a Spanish soundtrack intended to invoke the spirit of Barcelona. The models at this show were exotic with big up-do’s, and some sauntered particularly seductively down the runway. Some numbers featured fascinating cloud-like and geometric shapes; though the audience had a strong friends and family air to it, the experience managed to maintain an esoteric and exclusive feel.
