Dolce & Gabbana Pasta Charm Jewelry: Whimsical or WTF?

Clearly I missed something big from the Spring 2012 runways, because when I glanced at Drew Barrymore’s recent InStyle cover, I wasn’t quite prepared for what I saw. Embellishments aside, her simple white ensemble was almost on the boring side – which is when styling and accessories really come into play – so when I noticed that her statement bracelet appeared to be made out of macaroni, I definitely took a triple-take. Alas, it was no joke – Dolce & Gabbana does indeed boast a recent collection of pasta and vegetable charm jewelry – including both bracelets and chandelier earrings that’ll certainly stir up your own appetite for look-at-me accessories. Bedazzled with boho-chic gold coins and sparkly stones, these pieces are undeniably eye-catching, but the bottom line is… the main focus of these pieces are bow-tie and elbow pasta! And do you really want to pay hundreds of dollars for designer accessories inspired by a common kitchen staple? I’m intrigued but torn – are these pasta charm baubles fun and high-fashion, or just plain ridiculous?

Chanel’s Spring 2012 Horizon Blush Has Us Dreaming of Warmer Days!

Let’s face it – no matter how ambitious (or how simple) your New Year’s resolutions may be, it can be difficult diving into “fresh start” mode when the winter weather at hand is so dreary and depressing. But fear not – Chanel’s Spring 2012 Collection is fiercely gung-ho about looking forward to the brighter, sunnier times ahead, and I dare you not to jump on-board! One of the most noteworthy items of the cheery, sherbet-hued collection is the color-blocked Blush Horizon de Chanel, a shimmery highlighter featuring flattering rose, coral, and peach hues that can be blended together, layered, or worn separately for a pretty spring flush. It’s sheer enough that it can be used as a highlighter for the subtlest glow, but is also buildable if you’re hoping to add statement-making tint to your sun-starved cheeks. At $58, it’s a bit of a splurge just to get a head-start on your spring-friendly collection, but it’s hard to say no to such a pretty compact… plus, think of it as a collector’s item!

Get The Runway’s Dramatic Liner & Sunny Glow From Jonathan Saunders Spring 2012 RTW

Aside from setting the tone for the upcoming season’s hottest makeup and hair trends, runway beauty manages to be extra fascinating for helping tell the runway show’s style story. And in the case of Jonathan Saunders’ Spring 2012 runway, makeup artist Lucia Pieroni helped tell the “fabulous yet also deranged” story of a retro-chic housewife who has perhaps taken “a bit too much Valium.” As twisted as the inspiration may be, we love the results, and rounded up a few products to steal the look yourself without abusing your prescription. Of course, the ultra-thick dramatic liner is what makes the look – dip an angled brush like Estee Lauder Eyeliner Brush 20 in a black cream liner like Stila Smudge Pot (which, despite its name, won’t budge!). Skip the frosty-finished or shimmery bronzers and go for a matte sunny glow for that ideal Miami housewife look – try Cargo Matte Medium Bronzer. And be sure to finish things off with a slicked-back yet roughed-up ponytail to complete that “done but undone” look. Frederic Fekkai Coiff Strong Hold Volume Mousse helps smooth hair out while still retaining plenty of volume!
