Spring Shopping Guide: Lucite-Heel Sandals

A year ago, if you had told me I’d be writing about Lucite-heeled sandals, I’d have asked you, “Did I start working at a strip club?” Funny how all it takes is one designer to subvert the stereotype, and all of a sudden, reinvented stripper shoes are everywhere. (Even here.) Granted, see-through heels aside, this season’s footwear looks nothing like that found on the feet of ladies of the night; the key is that these styles feature a chunkier heel or even a wedge versus a stiletto. But if you do see any of these up on the pole, well, you’ve landed yourself at one classy strip joint, my friend.

Leave it to Lanvin to make Lucite classy—with a five-inch clear wedge heel, these sandals have the cool effect of making the foot look like it’s cantilevered over the thick black platform. I also love the scalloped straps, which are très Parisienne.

Compared to the above shoe, Stella McCartney’s Tess platform sandals would almost look downright dowdy, with their almost flatform-like shape. However, they’re incredibly sleek and sculptural, and with the Lucite extending below the toe, it creates the effect of your foot floating, goddess-like, on air.

But, should you really want to look like a stripper—a high-end stripper—then there’s always Casadei’s red patent leather sandals, the finest stripper shoes money can buy.

At the mid-range price point, there are some lovely, refined options, like this Stuart Weitzman Theone sandal. With the camel-colored leather straps and Lucite heel, these are pretty much guaranteed to give you the longest, sexiest legs of your life. I’m actually afraid to buy these, lest I never want to wear any of my other shoes again.

For a more practical take on the trend, there’s Loeffler Randall’s Heddie sandals, which are nearly sold out everywhere (but, whee, still in my size at Les Nouvelles!). In spite of the minimal heel, they’ll still give you a nice lengthening effect with the bonus of being totally walkable.

Hands down, one of my favorite pairs is the Lana wedge sandal by MICHAEL Michael Kors. It’s simple, it’s perfect, and the price is right. Really, what else can I say?

On the edgier side, these Jeffrey Campbell Soiree sandals have a thicker black strap around the ankle, a back zipper, and a clear band across the instep. I should note that in spite of the 4.25″ heel on this pair, I tend to find Jeffrey Campbell shoes quite comfortable.

Of course, one does not have to pay runway prices for a classic look (well, as classic as Lucite heels can be): This chic pair from Deena & Ozzy is just $49.99.

Aldo’s Aserri sandals have been featured in a slew of fashion magazines, and at $100, they’re pretty much a no-brainer. I like that they’re a T-strap, which has the added effect of elongating the leg, especially if you go for the nude color. Maybe once you go Lucite, you never go back?

Stella McCartney’s Crossbody Falabella

So many of you are now familiar with Stella McCartney’s Falabella Tote which has probably reached iconic status. We just saw Stella’s to-die for Crossbody version called the Fringe Crossbody Bag in, taupe. The color is “the perfect” neutral that probably works with so much in your wardrobe. Personally, we think the ”crossbody” bag  is so much easier to carry than the “shoulder” bag and is a cooler more funky look.

Stella’s edgy Crossbody features a double row of fringed faux suede, gunmetal tone hardware, McCartney’s signature logo sateen lining and logo charm dangling from the chain. Wearing Stella’s Crossbody bag with the striking chain is like wearing a smashing accessory rather than just carrying a bag.

Stella’s Crossbady bag works amazing with jeans, leather leggings, skirts, dresses and so much more. For a causal and ultra trendy look we’d pair Stella’s Crossbody with skinny jeans, McCartney’s Contour-Seamed Sleeveless Top and Christian Louboutin’s matching colored Mrs. Baba Suede Red Sole Booties. For a casual evening we’d pair the bag with leather leggings, a cashmere sweater and Manolo Blahnik’s Quilted Black Boots. For a dressier evening we’d pair with Helmut Lang’s Jersey V-Back Dress and a fun pair of black booties.

Whatever look you choose the Fringed Falabella is the perfect day to evening bag and just big enough for all your lip glosses, eye pencils, sharpeners and important essentialsClick the link to indulge Stella, Christian, Helmut and Manolo.

Cheryl Shops Spring Shopping Guide: Colorblock Sandals

As you may have guessed by now, I own a lot of shoes. So many, in fact, that it’s hard for me to justify buying a neutral pair—or maybe, conversely, it’s easier for me to justify buying a non-neutral pair. That said, I do find that a brightly colored pair of shoes can really perk up your outfit, adding an unexpected element of fun. And while I’m now at the point where I own lots of shoes in bright colors, lo and behold, this season there are all manner of colorblocked shoes, combining two or more bright colors! It’s like a whole new world of possibilities has opened up, footwear-wise.

Stella McCartney’s shoes are so fabulous, you almost forget they’re not made of leather. This colorblock sandal combines hot-pink satin with a sexy red acrylic heel, a surprising twist on the stripper heel. Whatever level of discomfort it might appear to have is softened by that pillowy quilted lining.

Speaking of stripper heels, these Brian Atwood Bellini sandals are named after my favorite brunch drink and boast a tricky 5.5-inch heel. The key, however, is a thick 2-inch platform, which, net, makes them a totally walkable 3.5 inches. Also, how adorable and springy are the colors?

Giuseppe Zanotti holds a special place in my heart, in that he made my wedding shoes. And while the last two pairs have a slightly tarty vibe, these suede colorblock shoes are more ladylike—well, until you get to the 6-inch stiletto.

More fab colorblock shoes from Cheryl Shops after the jump…
Call me crazy, but even though these Stuart Weitzman sandals have a big red platform sole, there’s something kind of neutral about them—maybe you can’t wear them with other colors, but think how many things in your closet you can wear with them.

What prevents these United Nude geisha sandals from veering too far into crazytown is the strip of neutral tan woven in with the wide orange strap and purple sole. Admit it: Your inner 7-year-old loves them.

Diane von Furstenberg’s Elan sandals are one of my favorite pair of the bunch—yes, you can go with an all-black or all-white pair, but the nude and lime-green combo strikes the perfect balance between neutral and wild. Also, a great argument against those who think wedges aren’t sexy.

Crazy name aside, these Steve Madden Wimzikul wedges are indeed…whimsical…and I like that they come in three different color combos.

With a groovy ’70s vibe and a not-too-crazy color scheme, not to mention a totally non-committal price, these Pierre Dumas sandals are pretty much a no-brainer, especially if you’re apprehensive about trying the trend. Also, if you’re into it, they’re “vegan” (i.e. synthetic).

For slightly more of an investment, however, these colorblock sandals from the Limited are a pretty smart choice. The neutral stacked heel and leather keeps them on the sophisticated side, but a pop of color at the ankle makes things interesting.

Get The Look: Navy Lashes Inspired by Stella McCartney Fall 2012

Stella McCartney’s models made waves with their stunning cobalt liner during the designer’s pre-fall show back in January, and makeup maven Pat McGrath decided to keep the blue love alive for the Fall 2012 show, this time in the form of moody-cool midnight lashes. While this runway-ready look is a bit extreme with its spidery, doll-inspired lash look, you can get your own modern and wearable interpretation of the look in a variety of ways! If you’ve never tried colored mascara before, you may be surprised at how eye-catching it can be without coming off as too distracting – curl lashes and apply a couple coats of a navy or cobalt mascara like Buxom Lash Mascara Special Effects in Blue Noir. If you’re feeling daring and want to experiment with a night-out look, swap your regular false lashes with a cool navy pair – Shu Uemura has a good selection to play with! And if you’re one of those girls who refuse to stray from her tried-and-true black mascara, but still want to jump aboard the blue bandwagon, try lining your waterline and the outer corners of your lash line with a navy liner, like Tarte EmphasEYES Aqua-Gel Liner in Navy!  Photo Credit:

Clunkers! The New Shoe Trend for Spring?

I don’t know your thoughts on the latest trend…chunky heels. Although becoming verypopular I see nothing appealing about these designs beginning with: Chloe’s Two Tone Sandal, Chloe’s Black Sandal, Miu’s Miu’s Black Suede Boot, Stella’s Beige Patent Low Heeland Marni’s Mary Jane. I’m not sure what inspired these designs. These hot new heels are unsexy and totally unflattering to the leg. Many remind me of my highschool math teacher who had piano stools for legs and wore fat clunky heels. I don’t want to be reminded of her or of math class! I love trendy but this is a trend I will not be following. Just because something is “the latest” doesn’t mean we need to follow it. These heels will be on sale racks fairly soon. If you must indulge…just buy one pair as the trend will be long gone. (thanks to my math teacher) Click the green link to indulge. I’m sticking with my sexy stilettos!

Bag Obsession: Stella McCartney Falabella Shoulder Bag

  • posted January 18th, 2012
  • Fashion

You’d have to have been asleep this whole past year in order to ignore the fashion and accessories world’s obsession with python print. And while the trend has definitely reached its peak this past fall, it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere any time soon! After all, when it comes to handbags, it’s hard to go wrong with a print comprised of neutral tones so it goes with nearly anything, yet has undeniably sexy texture and makes a much stronger statement than your average solid leather bag. This season, however, Stella McCartney is edging the look up even further with chain hardware details and hot pink trim for a look that’s part sweet, part sassy. The Falabella Shoulder Bag is the perfect size for touting all our daily must-haves, while the print’s glossy finish and fun, expected contrast whipstitching adds plenty of interest that’s bound to beat all your other everyday shoulder bags in the fierce department! Sure, at $1,435 it’s definitely more of an investment piece than a spur-of-the-moment splurge, but its hard to resist even with the hefty price tag!

Stella McCartney Gets Spring-Festive (Already!) With The Print Fragrance Collection

As much as I love the cozy knitwear, comfort foods, warm cocoa, and cocktail parties that the wintry holiday season brings, I’d be lying if I said I don’t miss the spring and summer seasons on a regular basis. Especially now that all the runways are in Spring/Summer 2012 collection mode, and all of last season’s warm-weather fare is on major sale right now, it’s hard not to feel wistful about warmer times past and future. But don’t worry – you can still dive head-first into nostalgia and embrace a little bit of spring without looking like an out-of-season freak, courtesy of Stella McCartney’s festive new Print Collection fragrances! The designer’s signature floral scent now comes adorned in three prints from her recent Spring/Summer collection. It’s the perfect gift for any fashion addict who loves to coordinate their fragrance to their designer duds… or of course, just a little somethin’-somethin’ to cheer yourself up during these winter blues!

Stylishly Chic with Stella McCartney’s Signature Falabella Style

I used to think that totes were tacky. I could never, ever find anything in them when I needed to find it. Plus, they were ridiculously big and baggy. Well, that thought changed only a few weeks ago when I discovered Stella McCartney’s Falabella Tote. The Falabella tote is eco-entrepreneur, and eco-designer, Stella McCartney’s most famous, signature stylish handbag. Iconic for its sleek, edgy, and absolutely cruelty-free design, the metallic chain detailing, double shoulder straps, and silvertone hardware will have every girl instantly chic and at-the-ready for any spur of the moment getaway whether they are headed to Cancun or Cannes. This spring, the Falabella gets a grand update with the release of a few new must-have renovations. Perfect for the eco-conscious and Stella McCartney fans, here are three new picks to add to your continuously growing Falabella collection: Stella McCartney Falabella Denim Shoulder Bag, Stella McCartney Falabella Faux-Leather Clutch, Stella McCartney Falabella Faux-Leather Ipad Sleeve, and for an undeniably spring-ready pick, Stella McCartney Falabella Large Crocheted Shoulder Bag.
