If you’ve been looking for an excuse to dive even deeper into this season’s obsession with vibrant colors and eye-popping prints, Crowned Bird’s Fall 2012 Collection takes things a step further by promising plenty more whimsical patterns, fabrics, and shades even after summer hangs its hat! Founder Priscilla Barroso incorporates quirky animal prints, vintage florals, and a knack for mixing and matching contrasting prints for an overall retro-modern aesthetic that’s simplified to spare us the trips to several vintage stores! From vibrant tie-neck silk blouses and perfectly pleated dress shorts to fish-printed pencil skirts (seriously!), we love the fun yet sophisticated approach that Crowned Bird takes to retro-girly style, not to mention the fact that they can be modified to suit any season with the right layers and accessories! If you love the fanciful pieces from Crowned Bird as much as we do, be sure to check out their Kickstarter campaign to lend a helping hand in expanding their line, and even win some Crowned Bird goodies!

Summer Sophistication Done Right, Thanks To Max Studio!

While we ladies in San Francisco can hardly complain about extreme weather, my summer vacations visiting family in Connecticut have taught me enough to know that when the weather gets really hot, you rarely want to get out of the pool, let alone get dressed up and wear real clothes. But the truth is, you don’t have to suffer to look sharp when it’s sweltering outside (contrary to popular belief, pain isn’t always beauty), and the newest Spring/Summer lookbook from Max Studio is chock-ful of comfy-chic pieces that manage to ooze sophistication without making you feel miserable! The key is to find stylish summer staples in lightweight, breathable, weather-friendly fabrics like linen and cotton, and of course, exposing skin to stay cool while still keeping it classy! Opt for a pair of goes-with-everything linen shorts, and a drape-y top that looks luxe but feels as comfy as your favorite tee. And of course, don’t underestimate the need for a lightweight summer jacket – this linen blazer-style jacket goes a long way in boosting the sophistication scale without making you break a sweat!

Make The Most of Your Summer Maxi Dress Look With The Perfect Accessories From SSENSE!

This season, it’s all about the ever-flowing summer maxi dress. But how do you take the simple, effortless warm-weather staple and turn it into something that’s unforgettably statement-making? It’s all about choosing the right accessories, which will help elevate the look from something you just threw on to the epitome of casual summer glamour! First off, given the maxi dress’s voluminous shape, you want to make sure you do your curves justice – cinch your dress in at the waist with a coordinating belt, which will also serve to add some on-trend edge to your otherwise super-feminine look. Furthermore, maxi dresses look best on vertically-gifted girls, but if you’re not supermodel-tall, don’t fret – fake it by sporting some sky-high platform sandals to add the illusion of extra height! And last but not least, complete the look with the perfect floppy sun hat, so you can beat the rays while also giving off the perfect dash of boho-chicness! You’ll find these and more summer styles at SSENSE.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Masters The Colorful Oversized Watch at Watch Station!

It’s official: I’m a recently re-converted watch lover. In this day and age in which our most trusted timepiece is our cell phone and some elementary schools don’t even teach kids how to tell time in analog form anymore (seriously!), watches as functional items are becoming increasingly obsolete. But as with many fashion trends that are clearly more for fashion than function (gauzy scarves that don’t keep you warm, peep-toe booties, sequins, etc.) – I’ve come around from my skepticism and am ready to embrace the realm of candy-colored watches, whether or not I actually need an extra reminder of what time it is! This season, Marc by Marc Jacobs has plenty of bold-faced pieces to consider, from brightly hued leather to oversized silicone straps that fit comfortably on your wrist alongside this season’s equally color-festive friendship bracelets and metal-studded fare! More luxe than that Casio Baby-G you used to rock back in junior high, yet still plenty of fun, these watches from Watch Station will help you have your most stylish, colorful summer yet!

Trend Alert: Closed-Toe Espadrilles For Spring!

Open-toe shoes are a great excuse to show off a spring pedicure – and they’re just about the most popular form of footwear come the warmer months of the season ahead. However, what happens when it’s a gorgeous day and you want to be season-festive, but your toes aren’t exactly in tip-top show-off-worthy shape? I ran into this dilemma one sunny afternoon a couple weeks ago, and I came to the disturbing realization that I have no closed-toe shoes worthy of the spring and summer months, so to save you the trouble of a haphazard, emergency self-pedicure, I’ve rounded up 4 of my favorite close-toed espadrilles. Just as spring and summer-festive as your favorite pair of toe-exposing strappy wedges, these espadrilles still let your feet breathe while you beat the heat in style… even in-between polishes.

Cute & Cropped Spring Jackets, Courtesy of Karen Millen!

Now that it’s officially spring, the season’s festive neons, sweet florals, and candy-colored denim have us looking forward to more sunny weather to come. However, in all our giddy excitement (also known as spring fever), it can be easy to forget that the weather at hand may not exactly lend itself to all the skin-baring, sunny-day styles we’ve been eyeing. The truth is, spring can still get pretty darn chilly, no matter where you are… but that doesn’t mean you have to let the weather ruin your outfit! Just make sure you equip yourself with an equally spring-ready jacket! Lightweight yet statement-making, Karen Millen’s latest spring pieces will complement your look without leaving you stranded in the pre-summer chilliness. Lace details, cheery brights, and bold prints are all fair game, and serve as the perfect transition piece while we wait for the weather to really heat up!

Lace Tanks For Sexy Summer Layering!

Lace overlays and pretty sheer details grew increasingly popular over the course of last fall and winter, providing a sophisticated take on sexy lingerie-inspired pieces. Leaving enough to the imagination but still with plenty of sultry femininity, neutral lace dresses, tops, and even pumps and leggings served to put an updated spin on the classic textured material. Luckily for those of us fashionistas who can’t get enough of the pretty sheer trend, summer is putting its own updates on the look with pretty prints like floral and polka dots, as well as poppy summer-festive colors. Lace tanks make for the perfect summer layering pieces – wear them over a solid cami or bralette, or under a lightweight cardigan or floral blazer… or even throw them on over a swimsuit with a pair of denim cut-offs for an on-trend swim cover-up! It’s the perfect way to add some instant girliness to any casual summer outfit!

Prep For Unexpected Spring Weather With a Colorful Anorak

As much as the spring and summer trend reports and lookbooks will have us believe that the months ahead are full of nothing but sunny skies and perfectly warm weather, us fashionable realists know that your wardrobe needs to be prepared to face the unexpected while still suiting the season. I can’t speak for the rest of the world, but San Francisco is known for throwing its inhabitants for a loop despite its relatively mild weather, and luckily we can stay spring and summer-festive while still being equipped for a sudden downpour, ensemble-ruffling wind, or a chillier-than-usual June or July night. Colorful anoraks let you cover up, serving as a lightweight jacket that’ll guard against the elements, yet is still undeniably warm-weather appropriate! Short or cuffed sleeves keep the look fresh without making you break a sweat, while bomber styles and cinched waists provide a feminine yet sporty fit that’ll complement your outfit instead of just covering it up!

Giejo Swimwear Summer 2012: Mixing & Matching Done Right!

It’s lucky for us not-so-coordinated fashionistas that purposeful mismatching happens to be very cool when it comes to effortlessly chic summer style. However, as many of us learn the hard way, there’s a fine line between stylish mismatching and just looking like you couldn’t find a matching bikini set in your messy closet (which is sometimes the case). Giejo Swimwear’s Summer 2012 collection helps less skilled swimsuit shoppers take the pain out of choosing the perfect contrasting patterns and pieces with a bevy of bikini tops and bottoms in stripes, tribal, and coordinating shades – all meant to mix and match effortlessly without looking like you picked out your suit in the dark! With sexy printed details that help tie the whole look together and a simple yet chic color palette that pops without clashing, you probably could literally could go shopping with your eyes closed and still end up with a covetable contrasting bikini… but we recommend keeping your eyes open while you browse this bikini eye candy, just for the fun of it!
