My best friend’s wedding shower is coming this weekend and I need something fun to wear! Since I live in San Francisco, I don’t get much of an opportunity to wear sundresses, but since the soiree is outside of the city, I’m looking for something especially summery, but still somewhat dressy. Which is why I turned to a unique sleeveless wrap dress. It is comfortable enough for warm weather and most importantly, stylish enough for a wedding shower.

In between crappy weather and hints of sun, I’ve been scouring the web looking for five favorite posts relating to summer, travel, beauty, books and more and guess what? I’ve found them all for your reading pleasure!

1. Summer Travel Tips: If you’re still making last minute plans to getaway before school starts, today’s USA Weekend has a great feature by Travel Channel’s Samantha Brown on 5 Surefire Ways to Get the Most of Your Vacation.

2. Perfect Summer Hair: Humidity making your hair look downright frightening? Have no fear. This summer, thanks to Allure Magazine, we’ve discovered a brand new trend for your frizzy locks – go get a Brazilian and no, it doesn’t involve wax! It’s a natural treatment for your hair – it’s a little pricey (not as bad as Japanese straightening though) and it will leave your hair straight and gorgeous in any temperature!

3. Fuschia for Me: Anyone interested in sprucing up their mani-pedi? Is Sex on the Beach and Ballet Slippers boring you to tears? While Essie’s summer colors are still pretty tame, we decided to brighten up our tootsies this August with Opi’s Flashbulb Fuschia. Check out the Bionic Beauty’s blog where she give a Sally Hansen bright purple a try and then also shares her pick on the hottest flip flops of the summer – Switchflops! Gotta love a flip flop where you can change the fabric to match your outfit.

4. Blast from the Past: Since we’ve had really bad weather all summer, we’ve pretty much seen every movie you can possibly watch with your kids and others that in hindsight, we probably shouldn’t have taken them to (can anyone say “Land of the Lost?”) This weekend, when it was time to take in “Shorts,” I wanted to try something different. It’s been more than 20 years since I’ve been to a drive in movie and I decided to do a little Google-ing and managed to find a Drive in movie theater that was only an hour away from our home. If you have extremely long hair like I do, summer can present quite a dilemma. Having all that hair on your neck in the sticky heat can be oppressive. So I’m always looking for the perfect summer hair solution – ways to get my hair off my face and neck that aren’t boring or frumpy. Please no scrunchies or ‘claw’ clips!

Designer Summer Cocktails: Marc Mint Martini or Tory Tiki Tini, Anyone?

I receive about 50 pitches a day from publicists. As a publicist myself I review them with a critical eye. The other day I received the following email on behalf of HINT Water. It is an excellent pitch, promotion and product. So here it is….

Ever since the roaring 20s we’ve seen fashion change, develop, then resurface and now, designers are doing the same with cocktails. Summer styles from Marc Jacob’s “Depression Chic”, to Tory Burch’s 60’s “Swag”, to Pucci’s “70’s Flare” all the way to Ralph Lauren’s “Classy 90’s” are coming off the runway and into the bar scene. The designers participated in the Death & Co. “Mixology Cocktail Contest” where they were tasked to reinvent cocktails of the past… The winning cocktails are then offered on the summer menu available July 1 – September 15th. Death & Co. is NYC’s trendy “speak-easy”, known for it’s innovative mixologists and throw-back cocktails.

Designers like Tory, Ralph and Marc decided to take a leap down memory lane and re-design vintage cocktails of the past – Tory modeled her drink of choice back to the Tiki Drink years (think the 60’s movie “Beach Blanket Bingo”) and Marc taking a spin off the Flapper’s favorite Mint Julep which hasn’t been in fashion since the 1920’s. The one common ingredient that these designers share isn’t the cocktail color pallet, but the 0 calorie mixer – HINT Essence Water that gave them the no-cal flavor.
