Welcome to the Hotel Missoni

Missoni Hotel in Edinburgh-2b
The Ritz is where I will retire myself when I am old and gray and wish to spend my twilight years in quiet luxury. That said, at this moment I’m young and I want to stay at the loud, overstated Missoni Hotel in Edinburgh,UK and have a good time. The first of a proposed chain of hotels, the six-story building is dressed head-to-toe in signature Missoni patterns and bold colors. The hotel also brings in the design sensibility of Marcel Sandes, Eero Saarinen, Arne Jacobson and Hans Wegner. Rooms start at $355 a night.(via Cyana.Trend.Land).

Watch Videos with MovieWedge the Beanbag for your iPod

moviewedge

Man, do I wish I had discovered the MovieWedge in time for my last sleepless red-eye flight to New York! Think of the plushy little media player stand as a bean bag chair for your iPod — it’s tiny, squishy and portable, and props up your device at an adjustable viewing angle so you can watch videos on your device hands-free. Anyone who’s had to entertain themselves on the go knows it’s a pain to have to hold your player for hours at a time (or at least until your downloads run its battery life dry). Now you and your iPod can be cozy just about anywhere as it sits atop its little perch on any tray table, arm rest, or even on your lap!

Price: $9.95
Who Found It: xgalexy was the first to add MovieWedge to the Hive.

Organize Your Bag and Your Life

purse-organizers

You love your big purse. It fits not just your wallet, phone and lipstick it can also hold that book you’ve been meaning to read, a few lost pens, a brush and possibly a sippy cup, and a diaper or five.  However, when you need one of the important items that your purse should always possess (that wallet!) you can’t find it.  The same goes for long flights with the kids, trips to the store with a toddler and more.  You need organization and it can come easily just by choosing the right way to organize your bag and possibly your life.

The Pouchee- Designed for those trendy bags that also become bottomless pits.  Simply place all your important cards, cash, phone and more.  It’s easy to use, comes in many styles and colors and can be transferred from one bag to the next.

Fleurville Re-Run MicroPod- This handy pouch is perfect for when you are on the go.  It can hold your phone, ipod, sunglasses, even a diaper, wipes and changing pad. The MicroPod is great for flying or short trips.  The fleece-lined pocket keeps your items scratch-free and it even has an ear piece “pass-through” for your phone or ipod.

Joey Junior Purse Organizer-  If you prefer a roll up version then the Joey Junior Original is for you.  Easy to fill up with all your purse needs and easy to roll up and place in your handbag, you will never feel disorganized again.

Get Wired and Stay at the Pod Hotel in New York City @ $99/night

pod-hotel-nyc
When I travel, I either like to stay at a hostel that costs less than a meal or in a swanky suite with a view. I realized that at the end of the day, a room is just a place to sleep in and to store all my purchases! Nonetheless, when I do travel on the cheap, that means I’m sacrificing modern comforts like free wifi and flat screen televisions. That’s not the case if I ever want to go to New York City on a budget. The Pod Hotel is located conveniently in Midtown Manhattan and has everything you need to stay in comfort without breaking the bank. Choose from a townhouse studio or share bunk beds with a friend, all rooms have free wifi, LCD televisions, and an iPod dock. Some rooms have shared bathrooms, but that could be a great way to meet people from around the world. The Pod Hotel even has their own forum page where you can ask questions and find people to hang out with during your stay. Check out my slideshow to see what living in a pod would look like starting at $99 a night!

Staycation Beauty Essential: Davines Lovely Weekend Kit

davines_weekend_kit_love

With travel budgets being slimmed down, weekend destinations are becoming more popular. Along with pairing down expenses comes the pairing down of products of the products you need into compartmentalized, targeted beauty products. Italian hair company Davines launched the Essential Weekend kits to take your hair care routine on the road in a zippered pouch. Living in the Pacific NW, the humidity causes major frizz, so the Lovely Smoothing Kit ($16.50) was the perfect antidote to try. The Smoothing Shampoo worked into a slight lather leaving the hair feeling less wiry and silken. The ingredients are like a summer salad with prickly pear to add moisture, rice protein for a protective layer, olive oil as an emollient and olive amphoacetate for hydro lipid balance. The conditioner had a peculiar odor, but it was effective nonetheless. The formulation contains rice wax to nourish, vitamin E to protect from heat and mechanical tool damage, and borage oil to smooth and protect the hair. These products were tested among my male and female cohorts and no other previously used product was as successful in treating frizz. Hair was left flat, smooth, and less harsh. The drawback is the wax in the conditioner, which over time can leave a residue in your hair. This is why it is important to switch your hair products monthly.

Fashionistas and Design Enthusiasts Love Ireland’s g Hotel

ghotel

To call Philip Treacy just a milliner is a severe understatement. While he is best known for his award winning hat designs and for his collaborations with Alexander McQueen and Chanel, did you know he’s also the Design Director for the g Hotel in Galway, Ireland? It’s no surprise that his whimsical hat designs have translated into hotel design as well. From the bubblegum Pink Lounge to seashell decorated rooms, Philip explains his designs as “hats people love to wear. With the g, I have created a place where people will love to be.” The g has 101 rooms including the Evangelista Suite (where you can not “wake up for less than $10,000 a day”). All rooms have Treacy-designed Frette linens and even butler service! Take a look at my slideshow to see what living the avant garde life would be like at the g Hotel.

Experience the Best of Minimalism and Luxury at London’s Rough Luxe!

roughluxehotel
Whenever I travel, I’m either looking for a simple and cheap place to sleep for a night or an all out luxurious experience in a beautiful suite. Rough Luxe in London can be described as somewhere in the middle. Located in the up-and-coming King’s Cross, Rough Luxe calls themselves as “A little bit of luxury in a rough part of London. A little bit of rough in a luxurious London.” and they couldn’t have said it better. The small and intimate hotel may only have 9 rooms (and just 3 have private bathrooms) and the chipped paint and stripped walls may seem a little dingy, but it certainly adds to the artsy starving artist vibe. Looks aside, the service makes up for everything. The manager Leo and his dog Spud make their guests feel right at home with dinner recommendations, a tour of their gallery and evening drinks with other guests. So if you’re looking for something in between a student hostel and the Four Seasons, consider staying at the Rough Luxe Hotel the next time you’re in London. Take a peek at my slideshow to see more!
