Spring Break in Style With Anna Sui For Tumi Luggage!

If the thought of packing for your Spring Break trip is daunting enough to make you want to cancel your trip altogether (okay, let’s not be melodramatic), here’s a tasty designer tidbit that might make the task at hand a little more fun and fashionable. Anna Sui has teamed up with Tumi, bringing her signature print and appreciation for butterflies to a Spring 2012 capsule collection for the sensible luggage brand. The selection isn’t too extensive, with a total of four branded items – a carry-on suitcase, a laptop case, a tote, and a set of shoe bags – so you won’t waste precious itinerary-planning time just trying to choose what gear you need. Overall, I love the way this collabo is whimsical without skimping on quality – if you’re rollin’ with Tumi, you know your belongings are safe! –and it’s a great way to add a little personality to the normal ho-hum duty of packing and bag-checking!

Makeup Artist Christopher Drummond at The Lodge at Woodloch

This past weekend I had the opportunity to head up to one of my favorite local spas, The Lodge at Woodloch, to meet up with makeup artist Christopher Drummond for a 1:1 consultation. Christopher Drummond Beauty is now being sold in The Lodge at Woodloch’s spa boutique and I am so excited that Northeast PA gets to experience this spectacular vegan makeup collection.

I’ve known Christopher for about 4 years now, but this was the first time we actually had the chance to meet in person. Like a mother hen, I am so proud of him because I knew him when he was just launching his line with only 1 product at the time: Saude Pele Radiance Booster. When I walked into the spa boutique, Christopher was working with another customer so I had a chance to talk with The Lodge at Woodloch staff, my favorite being Stephanie who was so personable and funny, I was ready to give her my phone number so that we could hang out some time. There’s
nothing better than being able to feel at ease in a spa where the atmosphere is inviting versus some that are so pretentious with their noses in the air (do you know what I mean?)

When Christopher told me I had to arrive without any makeup on, I was ready to put a paper bag over my head with holes cut out for the eyes. My skin just happens to be breaking out and I feel like a new age spot is debuting on my face every day. Christopher promised that the products he would be using from his line would conceal the flaws and highlight my natural beauty. (Chris and I were laughing hysterically before the picture on the right was taken. This is our “trying to be serious” shot.)

Here is the before and after shot (i.e. before shot was at 10:30am sans coffee):

The biggest thing I notice between the two pictures is how much my eyes pop. Christopher used Alluring Apricot Sateen Blush on my eyes, Soft Black cream to powder eyeliner and his mascara. On my face he used Concealer in Light, Veludo Velvet Foundation in Luz/Light, Finale Finishing Powder in Branca/White, Alluring Apricot Sateen Blush and Bronzing Powder. Lastly, on my lips he used Coral Reef Lip Stain (LOVE.)

If there is anything that I can say about this makeup, it’s that it feels as light as air on your skin. With the concealer, it is creamy with great coverage without feeling thick or cakey. And the best part is that you only need tiny dabs of it on your skin, so a little goes a long way! The Veludo Velvet Foundation is AMAZING–velvet, indeed!

You can find all of these products online at www.ChristopherDrummondBeauty.com or if you are local here in Northeast PA, stop by The Lodge at Woodloch‘s spa boutique to see them in person (and book an out of this world spa treatment while you are there! I know that their Lotus Salon and I will have a date for a pedicure soon enough!)

Beautify On The Go With Sephora’s Color-Dipped Travel Brush Set

I’ve mentioned my newfound love for Sephora Collection makeup brushes before, and I have to say, they’ve struck again in the realm of beauty tools! I’m totally loving this mini travel brush set, not only because it’s compact (read: travel-friendly!) and affordable, but because it’s gorgeous to boot! After all, when the product is something boringly functional like makeup brushes, it definitely helps to make them fun and pretty to serve as a more festive addition to my makeup collection. Plus, it’s a little extra incentive to take good care of them!

This particular set comes with either purple or blue-dipped brushes with a matching case, and contains a foundation brush, powder/blush brush, and a shadow brush — basically anything you’d need for an emergency touch-up on the go! While the brushes may be downgraded in size for easier portability, they’re mighty and definitely don’t sacrifice quality for convenient transportation. The bristles, aside from being colorful, are super soft and perfect for face and eye makeup application on the go! And at $18 for a $50 value, I’d take these pretty Sephora brushes over a wallet-burning set from MAC any day!

Pack For A Fashionable & Fabulous Weekend With The Alexander Wang Daphne Duffle

  • posted September 1st, 2010

During the tedious chore of packing for a recent weekend getaway, I came to a sudden realization. Aside from the fact that I need more shoes (always), I also need more fabulous luggage. I don’t necessarily require an entire milieu of designer suitcases of every shape and size, but I could definitely use at least one go-to piece for short trips and sleepovers. I mean, let’s face it — my old high school gym bag just isn’t cutting it (seriously, that’s what I use). Plus, the whole charade of packing and unpacking, not to mention hauling said luggage to and from my vacay destination would be infinitely more enjoyable if I had a chic designer bag. Enter the latest object of my insatiable label lust: the Alexander Wang Daphne Duffel.

Naturally, Alexander Wang is known for taking practical, streamlined pieces and giving them an edgy spin, and this duffel is no exception. I love how the embossed leather gives it a subtle sheen while the button studs add some interest without making it look too hardware heavy. This is a bag you can take anywhere and look expensive (well, it is) without looking too showy. The only problem is that I’d probably be too protective of it to check it at the airport!

Forever Summer Kai Fragrance Oil

kai-fragrance
My favorite scent for summer is Kai fragrance oil. I keep the small vial of the fragrance oil in my purse and slather on the body lotion every morning. It reminds me of my favorite spots in Fiji, Hawaii, the Algarve in Portugal or the Cote d’Azure. The scent of gardenia and jasmine is completely relaxing and adds a summertime atmosphere to every day life, even in the hustle and bustle of the city. At home I also use Kai fragrance in the form of candles. Pair it with oversized sunglasses, a breezy tunic and flip flops for an instant tropical getaway.

Palm Springs is the go to destination for Angelinos looking for a bit of respite away from the hustle and bustle of LA’s tangle of freeways. The desert oasis has seen a bit of a revival in the past decade along with the interest in mid-century architecture and vintage furniture shops. Along with the influx of glamorous globetrotters many new luxe hotels have opened, all touting decadent mid-century influences and world-class spas.

Gotta Getaway? Leave Nothing Behind With Travel Bags That Do The Organizing For You!

Even for the most organized of packers, it’s nearly impossible to avoid that gut-wrenching feeling that follows you all the way through the security line: I must have forgotten something! And it’s not any better for the more disorganized travelers, especially when chances are you actually have forgotten something — you just can’t remember what — and since you shoved everything last-minute into your black hole of a suitcase, you nearly end up missing your flight by the time it takes you to do a last-minute run-through of all the junk you’ve stashed. But even though there’s not much to get rid of that inevitable niggling feeling of dread (paired with pre-flight jitters), you can pack more confidently and more accurately with organizing luggage that makes sure everything you pack has its proper place. Multi-compartment duffels, roomy suitcases with lots of nooks and crannies for easily-lost items, and even special organizers for your lingerie and toiletries not only keep your travel goods organized (and private upon inspection), but helps you double check (or quadruple check, if you’re nervous) to make sure nothing’s missing from its designated pocket. Check the slideshow for a selection of luggage, big and small, that will help make you a packing pro!
