Beauty Find – Vera Wang Simply Vera Soothing Balm

If you’ve checked out Kohl’s department stores lately and entered the first floor, you may have been surprised by a new line of cosmetics from the legendary fashion designer Vera Wang, (who also has a line of clothing there).

The Simply Vera Vera Wang collection is housed in beautiful blue outer cases that are simple and chic with pretty white type.

The product jars and tubes are black and white – again simple and chic.  Most of the shades in the cosmetic collection are very, pretty, feminine practical colors which help to achieve that “natural with a bit of a kick” effect.  (I’ll be talking more about some of the color cosmetics soon), but I wanted to start with one of the surprising stars of the collection.

Simply Vera Vera Wang Soothing Balm is a multipurpose product that at first glance is similar to other popular salves and balms on the market, but this one really impressed me.

First, the scent and taste is a honey-blend and absolutely divine!  The texture of the balm is slick and soft but not overly greasy.  It’s like putting velvet on – that’s how good it feels.  It felt remarkably light on both my lips, and my skin, which is another place the balm can be used.  In particular I loved using it at night on my hands, cuticles. It’s also great to use around the eye area and dry elbows, feet and cheeks as well. What also impressed me what that the product does exactly what it says – my lips and skin remained moisturized, soft and smooth all day.

The finish adds a bit of sheen but it’s not overly shiny or greasy at all.  Coming in at half an ounce, there’s also a lot of product for your money.  The durable pot is easy to toss in most makeup bags and even better – only a small amount is needed to sooth and moisturize instantly.  If you never thought you’d become hooked on a balm, I’ll tell you now  – you will when you try this one. – RLB

Vera Wang Preppy Princess

Vera Wang is probably best known for creating elegant, must-have wedding dresses and accessories, and her dresses are quite coveted by newly-engaged women with any access to a department store. However, those less familiar with her expansive dynasty, which includes all things fashion (including shoes, glasses, womenswear and home accessories), might appreciate learning that among many other things, Vera also brings us fragrance.

Preppy Princess appears to be the latest fragrance to join the collection. Although promotional websites boast that Preppy Princess is an “eclectic, edgy fragrance,” this reviewer was a bit surprised by the overall commercial scent, giving off the same sort of whiff that enters ones nostrils upon briskly walking through the perfume department en route to the shoes in any given department store.

Comprised of elements of berry, honeysuckle and “woods,” per the website, Preppy Princess disappoints as it ultimately delivers a rather generic and easily-overwhelming aroma.

That said, it cannot go unmentioned that the timing of the product release smartly aligns with the recent nuptials of the beloved William and Kate. Clearly marketed to a Gossip Girl audience (see any ad for this product) and equipped in a heart-shaped, crowned glass bottle, Preppy Princess wisely capitalizes on the current royalty-craze and brings sovereignty to the commoners. Too bad the scent is rather unremarkably common.

Buy it: Chelsea Clinton’s floppy hat

I will admit, I have Chelsea Clinton wedding fever; she’s a few years younger than me, but I feel like we came of age at around the same time, and well, since I’m getting married next summer, I’m eager to see what kind of wedding (and wedding dress) she’ll have. Women’s Wear Daily published a rather hilarious article yesterday detailing their stakeout of Chelsea’s alleged visit to Vera Wang’s Madison Avenue bridal shop. They describe Secret Service agents blanketing the area, Hilary Clinton absentmindedly checking her Blackberry, and that the duo, in their multiple trips to the shop, are (gasp!) routinely up to 30 minutes late for their appointments. WWDmanaged to snap a photo of Chelsea, obscured by a rather large floppy hat; it took less than a day for me to receive an email from Hat Attack claiming ownership of the chapeau in question. That said, their raffia sun hat is pretty fabulous. It would make a glamorous beach-vacation hat, whether you’re going to Miami or Bali, and it comes in two shades of raffia with several color options for the ribbon. As for an incognito disguise, however, I think it pretty much failed on that account.

The Magic of Vera Wang Princess – Enter to Win!

The set of fragrances from Vera Wang Princess portrays the wearer’s fearless, unpredictable and playful attitude. Inspired by a seemingly modern-day princess, the Vera Wang fragrance flaunts the independence and confidence of a contemporary lady. The unique floral, fruity scents flaunt the aroma of vanilla and pink guava. Its golden crown cap conceals a keepsake of gold band studded with amethyst-colored crystals.

The current face of Vera Wang Princess is the lovely offspring of the legendary rocker Lenny Kravitz and actress Lisa Bonet, Zoe Kravitz. She claims that the Vera Wang Princess has really enticed her since she does not normally wear perfume, except for essential oils. The vanilla scent of the Vera Wang fragrance has captivated her senses.

Indeed, the Vera Wang Princess is glowing with pure, fruity floral fragrance that exemplifies the modern-day princess. You can appreciate the heart-shaped amulet that contains the whimsical perfume.

The top notes of the Vera Wang Princess collection include Mandarin Meringue, Golden Apricot, Water Lily and Lady Apples. While its heart notes consist of Dark Chocolate, Wild Tuberos, Tahitian Tiare Flower and Pink Guava, its base notes comprise Amber Woods and Vanilla.

You can purchase the collection separately and this includes the Foamy Body Polish ($30), Satiny Body Lotion ($32), Velvet Body Butter ($35) and Eau de Toilette Spray ($57/1.7 oz.).

Behind The Makeup: Vera Wang Spring 2010 Show

lucia 1lucia 2lucia 3

Lucia Pieroni, Color Creator for Clé de Peau Beauté, created her own approach to Vera Wang’s Spring 2010 show by developing a boy-like, simple face to each model walking down the runway. The look catered to the collection clothing and bold jewelry.

“I wanted the models to appear cool and very natural, so I created a super sheer base on the face with eye accents only, of taupe and silver.” Lucia says. “I wanted them to look healthy, but a bit supernatural.”

For the face: Lucia began with NEW! Luminizing Enhancer Base ($42) to even out skin tone and create a luminous complexion. Next, she used the Refining Fluid Foundation ($118) for an even, flawless, and radiant finish.

For the brows: Eyebrow pencil in #104/Grey for a fuller and more clean look ($55)

For the eyes: To brighten eyes, Lucia used NEW! Satin Eye Color in #11/Silver ($45), with a touch of #111/taupe to the outer corners for added definition. She also utilized Satin Eye Color in #104/Golden to highlight brow bone and to the top of the cheek to add ethereal glow.

For the lips: Lastly, Lucia used NEW! Extra Rich Lipstick in T4 ($65), a nude shade inspired by tea roses to compliment the face without drawing attention.

Lucia uses products to enhance rather than to conceal and creates breathtaking images, with a 21st century twist! She is well-known in Britain and a favorite amongst renowned photographers such as Glen Luchford, Paola Reversi, Craig McDean, and David Sims. Her talents has shined in several top fashion magazines which solidifies her as one of the premier makeup artist in the world. She became the creator for Clé de Peau Beauté in 2005.

The NEW Clé de Peau Beauté Spring 2010 collection will launch March 2010 at Bergdorf Goodman and select Barney’s, Neiman Marcus and Saks locations nationwide.

Simply Vera Vera Wang Beaded Multistrand Necklace from Kohl’s

Perusing the September issues of the major fashion magazines, I’m fascinated with the messy, Gothic look that has taken over accessories, especially necklaces. This intriguing concoction from Simply Vera Vera Wang can make an artsy statement all on it’s own, with baubles, beads and chains, so pair it with a simple top! It’s $21.60, regularly $36.00, from Kohl’s.

Wedding Belles! Gown Inspiration for Spring Brides

By The Devil Wears Marc Jacobs

am a 26 year old female, who has been in a committed 4 year long
relationship, and never has really entertained the glamour of wedding
season. But for some reason, it hit me today! It could have something
to do with the following reason:

1. My friend recently got engaged, and asked me to be a bridesmaid
2. Trying on said bridesmaid dress and unsightly matchy matchy shoes
3. Vera Wang's wedding gowns, normally $6K price tag, down to half that, recession woes = fabulous designer dress on the cheap!

4. FabSugar launches WeddingSugar
5. Daily Candy launches Daily Candy Weddings
6. Today's Martha Stewart, "The Wedding Show"

Is is just me, or does everyone have Wedding Fever? This is definitely a sign, a Spring Wedding is the new black!

of Vera Wang….here are some of her very stunning, very un-traditional
wedding gowns, and I like that she infused color in the her Spring line
for 2010!

Running the color gamut, from traditional ivory, pastel n' pink, to progressive in black. I'm digging looks two and four.

Do you think you can pull of "blushin' bride in lime green?
