I haven’t quite figured out how their stock works – they have pages and pages of clothes in each category, but it seems like there are limited numbers of each item, and once they’re gone, they’re gone.  So if you see something you can’t live without, don’t hesitate.  My favorite buy so far?  This “perfect pencil dress,” which lives up to its name with its mid 20th century faux-First-Lady look.  I’ll be spending a lot more money on these clothes, for sure.

eBay having a Green Team almost seems redundant – what is more green than the reuse of hundreds of thousands of products? However, a new initiative from eBay and Zem Joaquin (DIY maven and founder of sustainable style blog ecofabulous), proves that there is always room to improve, and also provides eBay the chance to officially brand themselves as the green buying alternative.

The Green Team Creative Use Competition is part of a larger six week re-purpose initiative. This particular leg encourages eBay users to devise a creative, practical, and chic repurpose use for an item of their choosing. The contest, curated by Zem, boasts a $1,000 vintage shopping experience on eBay and a personal consultation from ecofabulous. Members and fans will be able to vote for their favorite repurposed item, which participants have until November 19 to submit.

Zem offers inspiration through her own experience, including a transformed telephone bench that she used in a guest room of her house. She even goes as far as to offer a step-by-step break down of how to do it, along with a few other DIY tutorials.

The initiative was birthed partially from a Brandweek survey that stated 91% of 1000 Americans polled said that they would consider buying secondhand and that in the past year, 29 percent of them said they have been buying more secondhand goods and fewer new items. eBay states, “The eBay Green Team – comprised of over 100,000 eBay consumers and employees from 25 countries – is committed to encouraging smarter, greener shopping choices, and promoting the fact that the greenest product is often the one that exists today.”

Back in the 1940s, with price tags ranging from $100 to $500, her clothes may have been out of the reach of most women, but they were well worth the price. Not only were they beautifully constructed out of fabulous fabrics, but Nettie Rosenstein was the Queen of Fit. She had fittings on five different models, who each represented the average women’s figure, to make sure each of her dresses would fit like a glove.

And in 1961, when she discontinued her fashion business and turned her attention to costume jewelry, perfume and accessories, she maintained her attention to detail and produced some beautiful pieces like today’s VPOD.

This stunning vintage cuff bracelet is beginning to show some signs of age, but really, aren’t we all? And I like the life a little wear brings to a piece like this. It’s not too shiny new, not too worn, but just right.

And that makes it a surefire statement piece for a vintage fashionista!

But for green vintage fashionistas, these types of costumes just won’t do! Instead of spending way too many dollars on a costume you’ll wear only once and then donate to a thrift store, use this as an opportunity to score a fabulous little outfit that you’ll actually be proud to wear in public when Halloween is over.

Take today’s VPOD for instance. Go prowling on Halloween in this 1990s vintage A.J. Bari strapless leopard-print mini dress by adding a fabulous cat’s-eye mask and long black-painted fingernails for claws. Then drag it out without those holiday additions for a dinner date a month from now.

Bamboo is an environmental wonderkid. This fastest growing plant on the planet (up to 4-ft per day in some species!) releases 35% more oxygen than trees and can be harvested sustainably. Here are some more interesting bamboo facts:

* The filament in Thomas Edison’s first light bulb was made of carbonized bamboo.
* Alexander Graham Bell’s first phonograph needle was made of bamboo.
* There is a 250-yd suspension bridge in China made strictly from bamboo–no nails or iron needed.

In tribute of this miracle material designed by Mother Nature herself, I present today’s VPOD. This vintage 1970s gold Napier necklace is made of bamboo-like rings that add style to the list of bamboo’s amazing properties.

One of the highly anticipated films of 2010 is Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. Johnny Depp stars as the Mad Hatter and is joined by Alan Rickman, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter and Mia Wasikowska. The film looks to be a visual masterpiece and breathtakingly beautiful from a peek at this trailer, with costumes designed by the super-talented Oscar-winner, Colleen Atwood.

And what does a girl wear to go see another girl jump down a rabbit hole? How about today’s VPOD. This collectible 1930s day dress features a darling novelty print that brings together the characters from Alice in Wonderland. And its grosgrain ribbon stripes, black buttons and bows, nipped waist and padded shoulders just add to its charm.

So while today’s VPOD look like it might have been worn by Daisy in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel, The Great Gatsby, I prefer to think of it as “the Great Gasp-y.”

It’s certainly one of the most unique and beautiful 1920s flapper dresses I’ve ever seen. From the open work on the neckline to the beaded geometric shapes on the bodice, from the green ribbon cummerbund at the hip to the magnificent draping of the chiffon, this one is truly a gem.

It’s a rare one-of-a-kind find for a vintage fashionista!
