Hot Beauty Products for Spring

As the weather heats up, our beauty routines change. Hair color and makeup gets lighter, and our skincare needs change too.

In the wintertime, most women use a heavy moisturizer. Though you need to moisturize your skin all year round, in the spring and summer you can switch to lighter products. More and more people are turning to all natural beauty products this season. Instead of relying on chemicals, natural beauty products use plant extracts and other botanicals to nourish skin and hair.

Korres offers a great line of beauty products that you will really enjoy. From the Korress Wild Rose 24-hour Moisturiser to their Rice Protein Shampoo, you will find Korres natural beauty products suited to all your beauty needs.

Brown_sugar If you are looking to restore your skin back to a healthy glow after a long, harsh winter, you need a product that exfoliates and softens your skin. Brown sugar body polish is the answer. Using natural brown sugar, along with almond oil, jojoba and other natural ingredients, this body polish will remove dirt, oil and dead skin cells to revitalize and smooth your tired complexion.

Rescue_beauty After you have polished your body, it's time to polish your nails! Spring is all about color. When choosing nail polish, select fabulous spring shades from pale pink to turquoise blue. Rescue Beauty Lounge nail polish comes in dozens of wonderful colors. My favorite shade is Drop Dead Gorgeous, a bold dark red.

Natural Skin Care: What It Is and Why Use It

Natural and organic skin care can be as effective as pricey salon and medical procedures and the results will last much longer. Unfortunately, there is very little organized information on exactly how to effectively take care of your skin without using chemicals. Besides, we are used to thinking that skin care means only creams and lotions and maybe weekly masks but in reality it has much deeper meaning and many more tools:

Tool 1: Nutrition is the most important aspect. Watch what you eat and drink to achieve the best results: vegetables and fruit (especially greens), vitamins C and E acting as natural antioxidants, Omega-3 in seafood and restricted amounts of sugar will help immensely. National Research Council also recommends drinking 1 ml. of water per each calorie consumed (I will leave the mathematics up to you).

Tool 2: Sleep is a powerful skin care method. While we are sleeping our skin cells are at work: they are being renewed almost twice faster than during the day. As a result, skin gets rid of many toxins and wrinkles and gets enriched with collagen. Lack of this protein (collagen) is the reason for dry skin, lines, cellulite, dull hair, etc.

Tool 3: Watch what skin care products you purchase. The first third of components listed on a product’s label are usually the components that represent about 90% of the content. It is important that your product of choice contains more natural and organic ingredients than unknown chemicals. A lot of leading cosmetic manufacturers use a wide range of natural and organic ingredients (in addition to water, salts and minerals), such as red tea from South Africa, green tea, ginseng, sea algae, etc.

Tool 4: Try simple natural recipes first before rushing to a mall and spending a fortune on the latest skin care items. As simple as they seem, they might work effectively (for example, elimination of under eye swelling and circles with the help of cotton balls and black tea). It is important though to make sure that you are not allergic to the products you use and read the recipe correctly.

Stay young, healthy and beautiful!

Beauty from Mother Nature

Honey_3 Hundreds of years ago honey symbolized fertility, health and wealth in many cultures. Ancient Greeks called it “the food of Gods”. I don’t know about gods but these days any regular person can buy various kinds of honey in a regular grocery store. You will probably mostly find it in a family kitchen or a dining room but I prefer to keep this delicious treat in my bathroom. And no, I am not insane. Natural honey is an essential part of healthy organic skin care.

Chemical and Engineering News page compiled a rather informative article about the chemical composition of honey. It explains that honey mostly consists of various sugars and acids, as well as minerals, vitamins, proteins, iron, manganese, copper, silicon and nitrogen. Even though many of these elements are found in honey in small amounts, it is obviously enough to create an effective organic skin care product. You can add some natural honey to a hot bath before bed, use it as a lip balm in winter, or just have it with a cup of tea: it’s equally good for your beauty and health.

Ann Louise Gittleman, a well known nutritionist and author of 30 books about health and nutrition, was recently interviewed by Houston Chronicle and asked what sweetener she personally would recommend. Ms. Gittleman’s definite response was “Real honey. Number one, it's an antioxidant. And you will get sweetness from it. I'm a big believer in honey in your tea, and even in your coffee.”

As for the cosmetic and skin care products with honey as an ingredient, you will be able to find a great choice of these items right here, on TheFind.com.

The Beastie Boys' Parents on Fashion

Hair2 Looking around at the fads for guys today it looks like really bad 70s hair meets skater clothes from the 80s. To top it off, the boys who opt for the skater look tend to wear girls skinny jeans to maximize tightness. I guess they don't have any good skinny jean options for guys. There's a business opportunity there folks!

At the opposite end of the spectrum, boys are still sportin' the super low rider baggy jeans -- belt under the bum and the pants crotch at the knees. How hot is that?!? Ugh! To make matters worse, they wear t-shirts that are reminiscent of 80s t-shirt dresses. I don't know where they find these shirts, but they're LONG and skinny. The shirts tend to fall all the way at the knees (hence the 80s dress reference). I'm sorry guys, but when was the last time you found a girl wearing the equivalent of a potato sack (or rather 20 lbs of clothes that bunch, gather and cover every inch of her) and thought she was hot. If you can identify with this statement, then I'm assuming that you only thought her face was hot because the rest of her was missing. Which is exactly how we feel when we see guys running around in mounds of clothes. Blech! It's not flattering or cute, it's just lame.

Really, I think the Beastie Boys said it best when singing about the perils of living with parents (at least that's my take on the song)...

"Get outta this house if thats the clothes you're gonna wear!!!!
I'll kick you outta my home if you dont CUT THAT HAIR!!"

I can just imagine how many households go through that same routine on a daily/weekly basis based on what their boys are sportin'. I don't want to come off as a fuddy duddy, but in my opinion, find something cute or flattering to wear guys. Who/what are you trying to attract?!? I'm confused, but then again, I'm not in the target market. (Thank goodness!) However, I am rest assured that the Beastie Boys parents would agree with me on all this.

Payton

Tanning Lotion Mayhem!

I am an avid sunblock user...I'm not down with the whole skin cancer thing. Call me crazy! So, I either walk around pasty white or with a slight hint of a tan produced by self-tanners. I'm sure that by the time I get to be a senior citizen, doctors will have figured out that self-tanners give you cancer or something to that effect. Please note: I am not a doctor or a scientist, therefore this futuristic assumption is not real. It's just pessimism getting the best of me.

Fake_bake Has anyone else noticed that there's an incredibly HUGE number of self-tanning lotions on the market today? I thought there were an overwhelming number of choices at the local drug store, but have you seen how many are available online? OMG, it's enough to make you crazy! How do you even know where to start? I like to check out other people's tans and then inquire if they use self-tanner or not. That's usually a safe way to go, but some people won't admit that they use a tanner or they might be offended that you noticed. It's a fine line to walk, but it gets the job done.

Seriously though, when reviewing all the choices, what do you look for? It's not like it's food where youClarins can review the ingredients and figure out if you're getting something natural vs. laboratory made, right? You can check out the claims on the packaging like, "Won't turn skin orange." and stuff like that, but do you really believe it? My thinking is that the product used to turn people orange and they've since changed the formula or it still does turn you orange, but the manufacturer figures that they got your money if you bought it, so who cares about the claim. Whoa, there's that pessimism again!

Anyway, what by what criteria do you measure when choosing a self-tanner? Inquiring minds want to know.

Happy Tanning/Searching/Shopping,
Payton

Fashion Funk

I personally am not in a fashion funk, but I get to feeling a little funktified when I see certain fashions and fads that I don't like. I don't know what it is, but some fashions just put me in a funk. Am I alone on this?

Funktified trends (IMO)...Bubble_skirt

high-waisted pants/jeans
skinny jeans with anything but boots
plastic jewelry
sandals with socks
shoulder pads
turtlenecks
clashing prints & patterns
bubble skirts & dressesTerrycloth
pajamas in public
Terrycloth clothing
ankle high boots worn with skirts/dresses
super low waisted jeans that expose more than you want to see
acid washed jeans (let's leave these in the 80s)

So, there you have it...my random list of 13 trends. They don't call 13 an unlucky number for nothing, right?!? Are there any trends that put you in a funk? Chime in and let us know!

Fashionista, I Am Not

Ffl_1 As I mentioned last week, I teamed up with SVMOms.com to play in the Fantasy Fashion League. While it is a game, I have to say it is not a competition for me. It seems that the only thing I'm good at so far is answering trivia questions! Ugh!!!

How hard can it be?!? You create a line-up card of a few fashion designers, a few accessories designers and a few celebrities. If any of the people/brands on your list appear on InStyle.com, WWD.com or an awards ceremony then you earn points. I have been playing since Wednesday and I have failed to score any points from my line up. It's so sad!

I probably (hopefully) would've scored some points if I would've remembered to sign up prior to the Golden Globes. So, I resolve that I am more resourceful for trivia than I am at guessing which celebrities (etc) will show up in the news. I am more fashionable than I am in "the know." That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Fashionably (but not celebrity focused) Yours,
Payton
