Cupcake Crazy!

Jumbo_cupcake_pan I didn't think it would happen, but I have fallen in love with the cupcake craze! I was at a party early last year and a friend of mine was talking about cupcakes and how crazy she is about them. Not only the actual cake-like replicas, but anything and everything cupcakes. I thought it was kind of funny at the time, but I have since joined the cupcake craze. Is that crazy?!?

I really enjoy baking (when I have time) and have found that baking cupcakes is a really fun creative outlet. You can create many flavors and varieties in one batch and you can decorate each cupcake any way you want to. I find it very satisfying to be able to make such a wide variety without making multiple batches of cake mix. Could you imagine the mess if you made six cakes in one day all because you wanted to decorate six different ways. Or, maybe you couldn't make up your mind on cake flavor and fillings, etc. I don't know how things are at your house, but people get grumpy at my house if there are too many sweets sitting around. So, I try to be respectful of everyone's waistlines and experiment several different ways with one batch of cupcakes. My favorites are the jumbo cupcakes. Due to their size, they allow for a lot more room for creativity.

I recently discovered this cool super duper cupcake cake pan. I'm definitely going to buy it because it's just too darned cute to pass up. Once in a while you just have to go for it and make a full-sized cake, right? So, why not make one that looks like a cupcake?!? It's too perfect, really.

Cupcake_necklace_2 Outside of baking cupcakes, I found this really cute cupcake necklace that I'd love to have. It's too bad I didn't find it before Christmas. I could've put it on my Christmas list. That's alright, Valentine's Day is right around the corner! I'll just email it to my Sweetie so he doesn't have to guess what to get me. I wonder if I'll have to spell out that this is what I want for Valentine's Day. Yep, I better label it just to be sure.

So what about you? Has the cupcake craze hit your or is it just a passing fad that you're going to let pass? I'm totally on board and having fun baking crazy creations! Whatever your passion, I hope you have lots of fun with it.

TheFind.com Announces Powerful, New Local Search Capabilities – a Boon to Last-minute Holiday Shoppers Looking for the Complete Holiday Shopping Experience

The Comprehensive and Complete Shopping Search Engine Integrates both Local and Universal Online Shopping within a Single Website

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--TheFind, Inc., the leading shopping search engine and web destination for discovering lifestyle goods, today introduced new local search capabilities that provide users with the ability to find products from local retailers.

Also new on TheFind is interactive maps that pinpoint a store’s location and show store contact information and website links. In addition, shoppers can use TheFind’s integrated in-store availability checking feature across the set of merchants that support this capability. Lastly, TheFind provides integrated marketing areas for promotional offers from local merchants such as coupons and other deals, to help drive in-store purchases.

Local search is one of the fastest growing areas of search engine technology, and integration with “brick and mortar” stores and location-specific data to facilitate in-store purchases is seen as the “last mile” in search. A recent study found that 86 percent of those surveyed used the Internet to find a local business from which to shop. TheFind is the first shopping search engine to merge these two consumer needs for online shopping and offline shopping research all in one single website.

“While there are a number of shopping sites that offer local search capabilities to varying degrees, with this added capability, we believe TheFind brings the most comprehensive and complete local shopping search to the market. TheFind is now the first shopping search engine to seamlessly integrate online universal shopping with local shopping results to most closely align with how consumers use the Internet,” said Siva Kumar, co-founder and CEO for TheFind.

“These new local features are an added bonus around the holidays, as shopping days begin to dwindle and consumers start to hurry to complete their gift lists. Leveraging TheFind.com, consumers can shop at home first and find products at stores nearby, so they can pick up the merchandise themselves, quickly and easily, avoiding costly rush shipping charges,” added Kumar.

The new, local search capabilities enable shoppers to:

    * Search for products available through local retail outlets. For example, a search for UGG boots in and around Miami would show store locations that are within 25 miles of the shopper’s location. Consumers can easily adjust the search area to comprise a 40- or 50-mile radius, if desired.

  • Immediately identify local retail outlets near you that carry desired items. After searching for a product on TheFind, search results will display items from both online retailers and local retail outlets – with local stores clearly identified via a “Local” icon.
  • Check in-store availability. For select outlets supporting this capability, TheFind enables shoppers to see which nearby stores have a particular item in-stock. Additionally, all listings for local retailers have phone numbers listed so busy shoppers can call to check in-stock status.
  • Quickly and easily determine which retail outlets offering the desired items are closest in proximity. For every search, TheFind graphically maps all the local brick and mortar stores carrying the items of interest. Consumers can use the map to determine which location is the closest to them, saving time and resources. The site also provides street addresses and phone numbers for each store location.
  • Compare each store’s offerings and obtain the very best deal. TheFind puts a wealth of information at users’ fingertips to enable shoppers to assess the total overall cost of goods. TheFind alerts shoppers to various considerations such as sale items and promotions and driving distance of retail outlets, so they can make purchasing decisions based on their individual preferences and criteria. Integration of online prices and local offers helps consumers determine the best possible options.

The new local search capabilities come on the heels of other new enhancements to TheFind.com, including the addition of mini malls, enabling consumers to shop specific types of outlets from boutiques or well-known department stores, and even shops located within famous shopping destinations such as 5th & Madison (in New York) and Rodeo Drive (in Beverly Hills).

TheFind.com crawls more than 500,000 stores on the Web to find more than 200 million products across all shopping categories. Its unmatched Web search ability includes access to unique and hard-to-find boutiques, brand stores and hip, must-have products. TheFind.com’s objective approach offers shoppers search results which are ranked by natural popularity, instead of offering results influenced by paid placements.

Veteran's Day Brings More than Memories

It's no coincidence that many people become more thankful towards the end of the year. We launch into the holiday season with Veteran's Day, which is recognized today (Nov 12th). We're thankful for the military veterans who fought for our country. November 11th is the actual anniversary date of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I.

As with most things in life, people express their appreciation in different ways.  We all have our own ways and styles. I know some people who display flags for Veteran's Day, light candles, and have moments of silence or reflection. While others visit homes where veterans live and spend time with them and show their appreciation in person. And, some of us reflect while shopping. I know, it sounds shallow, but retailers are in full support of this type of appreciation. If they weren't, they wouldn't have such great sales, right? Check out the fashions below for some amazing sales!

Trench

So many fabulous trench coats to choose from this season. What color will you choose?

Scarf

I'm really into scarves this season. They take any lingering chill right out of the air.

Tunic

Long sleeved tunics are perfect under a trench coat. Spice it up with different colors.

Skinny_jeans

You can't go wrong with dark denim skinny jeans. They go with everything!

Boots

And my very favorite addition to so many outfits...tall boots baby! What else?

That's right, all the links above point to hundreds of sale items. It's even better than shopping at the mall. They suck you in with the sales and you fall for the non-sale items every time, don't you? I know, we all do it. So, shop away and thank our veterans for fighting for our country and inspiring retailers to have more sales. Shop on!

Fashion Funk

I personally am not in a fashion funk, but I get to feeling a little funktified when I see certain fashions and fads that I don't like. I don't know what it is, but some fashions just put me in a funk. Am I alone on this?

Funktified trends (IMO)...Bubble_skirt

high-waisted pants/jeans
skinny jeans with anything but boots
plastic jewelry
sandals with socks
shoulder pads
turtlenecks
clashing prints & patterns
bubble skirts & dressesTerrycloth

Terrycloth clothing
ankle high boots worn with skirts/dresses
super low waisted jeans that expose more than you want to see
acid washed jeans (let's leave these in the 80s)

So, there you have it...my random list of 13 trends. They don't call 13 an unlucky number for nothing, right?!? Are there any trends that put you in a funk? Chime in and let us know!

TheFind User Success Stories

We hear about a lot of shopping success stories here at TheFind. What do we consider a success story you ask? Anything that people have searched for elsewhere and couldn't find until they search on TheFind.com. Read on to learn more. If you have any success stories or if you've heard of any, please let us know!

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
My son is an avid soccer player and was in the market for a specific pair of Nike soccer cleats made with genuine kangaroo leather. We visited the local store and found nothing siutable.

So I showed [him] TheFind.com. Within minutes he learned how to query with adjectives, filter by brand, and narrow down by price.  In the end he found a great pair of soccer cleats by Nike from a little known shop in LA (his was the only size available in that design). In addition we also managed to get him compression shorts, shin guards and underarmour too.

His next quest is to get an MP3 player and recorder!
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

All of the women in my family like to use a facial abrasive called Brasivol, that contains a fine sand mixture, that used to be found at Long's drugstores, but Long's has discontinued it and it has been very hard to find any other store locally that carries it.  Just to see if TheFind could help us out, we did a search... and found a whole page of it!  My mother ordered several containers and gave one to each of us.  Now we all know where to find it when we run out.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I went to the eye doctor last weekend for an annual checkup.  As I sat in the waiting room, I watched other people picking out glasses and listened to the prices (“these frames are $250”, “these are $325”).  I love nice glasses but want a deal when it comes to the designer frames.  When I finished with myPrada doctor I asked for my written prescription so I could shop around for glasses elsewhere.

I looked online and found a site that carried a lot of different styles.  I found a Prada frame that I loved for $152 which was about 30% less than at the doctor’s office.  I looked at a couple of popular online eyeglass stores and found all of the prices were similar for this particular frame.

Well, then I came to TheFind and typed in the model number (Prada PR 07E).  Up came four products, and one of them was for $108!  I ordered my glasses and with lens/shipping, the whole thing came to less than $200 … the cost some people pay for just the frame!

I should have the glasses in another week or so, fingers are crossed that I like them in person!
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Heart_ring I was talking to an editor of a magazine last week and she said she was working on a story about engagement rings, but couldn’t find heart shaped engagement rings anywhere. I typed “heart shaped engagement ring” into TheFind search box and found 429 results. She was shocked! She wasted hours searching for heart shaped engagement rings and found nothing and by searching TheFind, she discovered amazing results. She was so excited she couldn’t wait to go home and play on the site to discover more things.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

The last success story was my own, but all the others were sent in. It's very exciting to hear about people's successes and we'd love to hear your's. It doesn't matter if you're new to the site or if you've been using it since we launched. I'm convinced that everyone has a success story to share. If you'd prefer to email instead of comment, you can send your story to talk@thefind.com

Best Friends Week -- Travel Ideas

There are few things in life that trump taking a trip with your best friend or a group of friends for that matter. Hanging out in your home town is one thing, but traveling to a place where nobody knows your name can be a whole 'nother story! You know the saying (and now ad campaign) "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas." Well, let's just say you could apply that to all your trips with friends..."What happens in ________, stays in ________. If your friends are like mine then you know that the over-embellished stories will follow! So, they may not exactly *stay* in said town, but that shouldn't stop you from letting loose and having tons of fun!

I think the best trips are created to match your mood, don't you? If you're feeling like laying low and being pampered, then you should go for a spa weekend. If you feel athletic and adventurous then you should go backpacking, right? Let's go with this theme for some fabulous travel ideas based on mood...

Your Mood: Over-stressed and in need of pampering
Your Adventure: Napa Valley for a spa weekend

Take a trip to beautiful Napa Valley for a weekend of wining, dining and fabulous spa treatments!  Take the Wine Train to create an experience to suit your mood. This ride can range from a nice lunch and a tour of wineries up to a Murder Mystery Dinner on the train with you and your best friend in costume to play along. Follow up your wine train adventures with a rejuvenating mineral or mud bath, soothing massage and a fabulous facial.

Your Mood: I feel like conquering the world
Your Adventure: Camping in Yosemite and hiking Half Dome

Halfdome008_5 Hiking Half Dome is a safe way to conquer a mountain without having any technical climbing skills, but at the same time getting to the top makes you feel great! You'll need about 12 hours (give or take) to hike up, hang out at the top, and hike down again so eat a hearty breakfast and pack a good lunch before you go! For those that are experienced, you can actually rock climb up the other side of Half Dome instead of hike and rely on the cables. Best of luck!

Your Mood: Rough & tumble
Your Adventure: Horseback riding at a Dude Ranch

Dude Ranches can be found all over the United States. Once you get out on the ranch and start working the cattle, it won't even matter what state you're in because you will be so far removed from what most of us know as reality. With that said, you're just a well off to choose a ranch that's close to home and give it a whirl. I guarantee that it will be unlike any other vacation you've ever had (unless you work on a cattle ranch already). It would be wise to take a few horseback riding lessons before you go so you can focus on working the cattle and not on how to ride a horse.

Your Mood: Marathon retail therapy
Your Adventure: A multi-day trip to the Mall of America

Many people say that retail therapy cures everything. At the very least, it makes you feel better temporarily, right? If you're a believer then you'd more than likely enjoy a multi-day trip to fabulous Minnesota for a super marathon in the Mall of America! This is a 4-story mall folks with 520 stores, 50 restaurants, an indoor amusement park with more than 30 rides, an aquarium, a flight simulator and so much more. It's the only mall that I know of that offers a visitor's kit and travel packages. Major bonus: no sales tax on shoes and clothing!

Your Mood: Adventuresome
Your Adventure: African safari

Safari_2 Venture to beautiful South Africa for a wonderful safari where you'll encounter all kinds of wildlife and amazing discoveries. Depending on the safari you choose, you may venture out for most of the day and return to a thatched hut at night OR you may camp out every night. It depends on what you want out of the safari, but do whichever you prefer. Do you want to help hunt for your dinner or do you want to sit down and be served?

Your Mood: Up for a good challenge
Your Adventure: Train and compete in a triathlon

Training for a triathlon is a great way to spend time with your best friend. The longer the distances that you plan to race, the more training that's required. In addition to being a great bonding experience, a fabulous challenge for your mind and body, it's also the perfect excuse to travel to new places. Triathlons happen all over the world. Find one in a place you'd like to visit and book your trip! Be sure to arrive several days prior to the race so you can acclimate to any climate changes and try to stay at least an additional week after the race so you can enjoy the area.

Your Mood: Need for speed
Your Adventure: Cedar Point Amusement Park

Roller_coaster If you're a roller coaster afficianado then you must make your way to Cedar Point in Ohio! They boast a whopping 17 roller coasters which is more than any other amusement park in the world. What more could you ask for from an amusement park? I know, more roller coasters, cheaper prices and a multi-day pass. I couldn't agree more!

Your Mood: Relaxing day/party night
Your Adventure: Cabo San Lucas

Take your adventure to the beaches of Cabo San Lucas. This is a great place to relax by day with your best friend on the beach. Enjoy your time gossiping, drinking and playing in the water. If laying on the beach isn't your speed, you can take a variety of stimulating boat rides. Top off your relaxing day by bar hopping and dancing the night away.

I could probably write another week's worth of posts about traveling with your best friend, but I think this gives you some really good ideas of places to go and things to do. If you have any other ideas to contribute, leave a comment and I'll add it to the list. Enjoy!

Happy Traveling/Searching/Shopping,
Payton

Fun & Useful Mother's Day Gifts (Promo Code Below)

Mothers are not unlike most people in the world...some are easy to shop for while others are difficult to please. As a rule of thumb, I like to believe that Mothers enjoy anything and everything that their children buy for them. Reality shows me that that's not always the case. Sad, but true folks! If your Mother is hard to please then try going out of your way to find her something cool for Mother's Day.

Show your Mom some love by buying her a cool necklace.

Shopping in the Pink

I'm really excited about our current community effort "Color for a Cause!" Today I'm shopping for all kinds of fun pink things. I know, all the guys are rolling their eyes. Present any woman in your life with something pink and you're sure to put a smile on her face. Besides, you don't have to actually purchase anything to participate. You just search for something pink and we'll donate a dollar each day that you do. Now maybe you'll be shopping in the pink with me, right?

Pink_mixerSo, I started the day off shopping for a girls pink dress for my neice. Then, I remembered that I need a new wallet. I thought it would be fun to check out the pink wallets. From there, I went on a kitchen gadget tangent...I was thinking about all the cool colors that the Kitchen Aid Mixers come in, so I searched for pink kitchen aid and found all kinds of fun (pink) stuff! I found a pink Kitchen AidPink_rocker 5-speed blender, pink Kitchen Aid toaster, pink Kitchen Aid food processors, and more.

Since I had so much fun with the pink kitchen gadgets, I thought I'd check out pink furniture. What a kick! I think my neice would really enjoy her own pink upholstered rocker and ottoman (it's a lot like her Dad's). Too cute!

Anyway, as you can see, shopping in the pink can be a lot of fun. Give it a try and let me know what you find!

Happy Pink Searching/Shopping,

Gifts for Prom (For Her AND Him)

Back in the day when I went to prom, guys and girls would typically buy corsages and boutonnieres for one another. While that's still in practice today, it seems that many couples buy gifts for one another as well. I think that giving a gift for prom would be more appropriate for a couple that's been dating for a while, but perhaps I'm wrong. Is it the norm to give a gift to your date if you're not "together?" Please comment if you have more info.

In the meantime, I'll go on to showcase some nice gift ideas for prom...

Prom Night -- What to Wear for Guys

Okay, so I'm done blogging about prom styles for girls. Now it's time to focus on what guys should wear! This subject was requested by one of our faithful readers. Enjoy!

You might assume that since you're going to prom that you should run out and rent a tuxedo, right? While that is a viable option, it's not your only option. Furthermore, if you do rent a tux, you can always dress it up and individualize it to your personal taste.Convers_2

First, kick off the ultra formal shiny shoes and replace them with your favorite Chuck Taylor Converse sneakers! To be safe, I suggest that you double check with your date before making such a bold move. There are pictures involved, afterall.

Pink_cuffs_2 Second, find some cool cuff links to embellish your cuffs. Go for a little bling, if you like or find a cool geometric shapes or a color that matches your date's dress. Cuff links can be as fun as you'd like and you don't have to get pre-approval from your date. They won't show up for the pictures, so your creative flair is safe for the up close and personal shots.

Pink_tie_1 Third, lose the stuffy little bow tie. Would you ever wear one of these in your life otherwise? I don't think so. It's part of the tux, so you wear it, right? Anyway, you're free to wear a silk tie of your choice -- you can have fun here guys! If you hate ties, cut loose and go without. Yep, that's what I said...go without a tie. Leave the top button or two open (don't go too low, it's not the '70s) for a more relaxed look.

Finally, with your tux you have choices for a cummer bund or a vest. Either are perfectly acceptable. Choose one that matches and/or complements your date's dress and your tie and you're good to go!

Suit_1 If you decide to abandon the whole tux idea, it is perfectly acceptable to wear a traditional suit to prom. In fact, you have a lot more options if you go this route. Besides that, you'll be out of high school soon so you can't go wrong purchasing a suit. You'll probably need one for interviews (school and job), public affairs, and dates. So why not invest the money now?!?

You can apply any of the alterations I mentioned above for a tux to a suit. Now you're all set to customize your outfit to your liking. If you have questions, leave a comment here. I'll be happy to help!

Socks for Prom?!?

I thought I was done blogging about prom stuff, but apparently I have one more thing share. Who knew that blogging about prom could be so much fun?!?

I was thinking back to my prom and how much fun it was and I have a vivid memory of piles of shoes everywhere. I'm pretty sure they were all women's shoes, if my memory serves me correctly. If you're lucky enough to score a pair of shoes that are comfy enough to walk in, dance in and look cute then you're in luck! Of course, you probably won't know that until the night of prom. As a side note, I do suggest that you wear your shoes around the house for a few weeks prior AND go outside and scuff the soles to help prevent slipping.

Anyway, back to the shoes (or lack there of)...I remember wishing that I had brought a pair of socks to run around in at prom. I was wearing nylons and the floor was dirty and it was kind of gross. So, if you plan ahead and pack a pair of socks to take with you, you should be all set. Words of wisdom from a former prom-goer. LOL

If you're going to wear socks at prom, they may as well be fun one s. Here are few funky ideas! Sock_boots
